Ruth rolled up her sleeves, getting to work on rolling out her sleeping bag. She tossed her bag in the corner of her tent, hoping that the decent food she had stashed in there would last. Cookie was very sweet, but he couldn’t serve a decent meal to save his life. She sat and laid back, resting her hands behind her head. If she squinted, the sparkles in the rocks almost looked like stars.. Huh..
A few minutes passed before everyone delve into their history. With a sigh, she crossed her legs and closed her eyes, blocking them out.
“What about you, Ruth?” Milo asked with interest, making her open one hazel eye to glance over at him. “What’s your story?”
With a crack of a smile, she closed her eyes again, putting her arm in the air for added effect. She moved it in an arch formation. “Well, it all began long ago.. The universe was only just beginning, and I was but a single cell in this vast multiverse-”
She was cut off as Vinny, who had gotten up, gently kicked her in the side. She opened her eyes and looked up, laughing. “What?”
“I had to tell my part, you tell yours, shortie.”
With a roll of her eyes, she turned over and rested her head on her hand. She pointed a thumb at the others. “These guys right here - these annoyances - are the only family I’ve ever known. I ran away from home to become a mechanic, and these good fellas took me in. A busy life, but a good one I guess. Pays the bills ‘n all.” She rolled over, waving a hand absentmindedly. “There, now ya know my sob story, whoop dee doo.”
“You’ve known them all for that long?” Milo persisted.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Sweet nodding. “Known shortstack here for a long time. She’s a good kiddo.”
“Gets trigger happy ‘round knives, though..”
“Vin, I can hear you, ya know?”
“I know, ya nearly stabbed me last week, ya little nuisance!”
“It was an accident, get over yourself-”
