I will probably delete this post but I always see so many people talking about outlast in a way where it's ableist because of the whole asylum mentally ill people thing. Mount Massive is an asylum for the CRIMINALLY insane.
Of course some patients are going to be violent, it's not only because they are mentally ill but there are people in real life who are mentally ill who commit crimes and are violent. It isn't meant to portray that ALL mentally ill people are crazy or ALL people who are mentally ill act like that (saying this as a person with mental illness myself). The whole point of the game is to show the exploitation OF the mentally ill by money hungry corporations who will experiment on them and abuse them for the sake of profit or otherwise, and the horror of it/how awful it is.
Some of the patients IN Outlast aren't even violent. Some of the patients weren't even patients, and were wrongly admitted on the basis that they were a threat to the secrecy of the corporation. The ENTIRE GAME is about how people in higher power take advantage of the mentally ill or even innocents. How is that so difficult to understand? I mean, am I missing something, or are that many people just looking at it with face value? Even with the fact of the criminally insane asylum, everyone in there was so heavily abused that of course some of them would get more violent; they were tortured. Others hide in fear. It's supposed to show us the bad and the evil of people who do this, and this type of stuff definitely happens/has happened in real life. I don't think it's difficult to understand. Maybe this is a hot take or something, I dunno. I just view it differently than others seem to.
