According to this poll Snape is the second best character in the HP universe, and this is how they describe his life.
I am really really mad right now
Letâs do a quick analysis of what they wrote:
"[Snape] had every right to be the complete asshole we all thought he was until the very last moment, where he got to at last experience two seconds of heroic glory before dying, like, instantly."
What the hell?! Just because he decided to switch over the âgood sideâ only because the woman he was obsessed with was in danger and then he treated like shit Harry and his friends because in the end he just âwanted to protect himâ - due to these things you justify him being an asshole? I donât know if you realised it but theyâre justifying all the years he passed bullying his students, not only Harry but also all the students who werenât Slytherin. I canât even express my disgust, and this is only the first sentence.
"Falls in love with woman who in turn marries the guy who mercilessly bullied him for years."
Oh yes, of course - you write that James bullied him for years and you donât even mention that then James saved Snapeâs fucking life and then he fought for the woman he (James) loved and their children and died for them. Yes okay donât do that, because James will always be the immature 15-year-old kid right youâre right poor unfortunate Snape
"Has to be like âoh yeah, great guyâ every time someone asks him about Voldemort."
I donât even want to waste words for this I donât even know if this makes any sense
"Haunted daily by memories of his true love/tormentor in the form of Harry Potter, who everyone thinks is soooo special and cool."
Okay, first of all Harry is special and cool okay he thought he was âjust Harryâ and then he fucking did everything he could to destroy Voldemort and managed it even if he wasnât even 18 years old donât touch my bby. Do these people fucking hate James or what? They keep calling him âtormentorâ or Snapeâs bully and what the actual fuck guys Lily loved James for a reason for Merlinâs sake and she stopped her friendship with Snape because it was TOXIC and UNHEALTY for her. So if âpoor Snapeâ is haunted by memories of âlove/tormentorâ itâs JUST SNAPEâS FAULT, HE RUINED HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH LILY. (we donât know if Snape couldâve had a chance with Lily, if he hadnât been friends with the Death Eaters conditional tense is so fucking hard okay English isnât even my first language, we probably will never know unless Jo tells us, but personally I donât think so because Jily is meant to be)
Letâs go on with this bullshit
"Is an unmarried school teacher who dresses like he just got thrown through a window into a Hot Topic."
Is this supposed to be funny? Because it isnât. Wait Iâll try to laugh. Ah ah ah. No, itâs not funny.Â
"Murders his best friend because of his lifeâs devotion to the protection of the innocent and the defeat of Voldemort."
Sorry Iâm just laughing now because Dumbledore was Snapeâs bestfriend??? No omg I canât stop laughing sorry I have to breath imagine them like doing sleepovers omg Mary stahp
Okay I managed to stop laughing. Well, what can I say? Protection of the innocence?! When he was willing to leave Voldemort kill James and Harry to save Lilyâs life?! Really, people?! REALLY?!
And thatâs it, luckily. Conclusion? This is just a great bullshit, and people who admire Snape for his behavior and his actions should really think about it twice. You got to realise that YES, heâs a well-written and twisted character, and for this reason he couldâve been second in the pool, and for this reason heâs a good character. BUT YOU CANâT FUCKING PUT HIM AS SECOND AND THEN DESCRIBE HIM AND HIS LIFE AND HIS ACTIONS LIKE HE WAS AN INNOCENCE SOUL BECAUSE ITâS BULLSHIT.
Iâm so fucking mad and sorry for all the âfuckâ I put in this actually not sorry this is bullshit fuck Iâm out

Robert Sapolsky about his study of the Keekorok baboon troop from National Geographicâs Stress: Portrait of a Killer.
Thiiiiiiis, people, thiiiis!
1. Kill alpha male types 2. Achieve world peace
Got it.
start making sandwichesâŚ
wasnât this the situation in egalitarian or matriarchal, pre-colonial non-european (afaik) communities? where a patriarchal system and alpha males to uphold it didnât exist, but instead venerated nature and, along with it, the female body and/or the female reproductive system resulting in less stratified, more egalitarian, communities?
(reference: kottakâs âcultural anthropologyâ or âanthropologyâ textbook)
"âŚHow can we create a society that has the conditions that allow people to flourish. And thatâs where this is headingâ to create a better society that allows human flourishing."
Okay okay. So, I watched the documentary and while this section, isolated in and of itself, centered on feminism, the rest of the documentary didnât center on that. BUT WOW DID IT TOUCH UP ON IT A LOT.
Not just feminism but hierarchies. Oppression. How being on the top of society can give you less stress (which may temporarily shut down the immune system which lets a greater number of diseases wreak havoc on the human body) and being at the bottom can give you more stress and may lead to death. And you start to think of how many American studies would say that minorities are usually at a greater risk and now you have to think twice on whether that risk is created by societyâs hierarchies.
Now, *points up* it wasnât mentioned in the photoset that, in the old generation of baboons, many of the subordinate had high stress levelsâ significantly so when compared to the baboons from the upper echelons of society. It also doesnât quite highlight how the new generation was different.
The new generation of baboons (despite being descendents from the surviving subordinate baboons), have lower stress levels. No one is being an aggressor to the other and causing the other stress and that gives them a longer lifespan.
And this is a society run where thereâs twice as many women as men and all the alpha males are dead or previously alpha male adolescents from other baboon groups are taught to act like the society.
Lastly, I remember (and I donât have the proper sources but fact or fiction, I have often been told) that women have longer lifespans than men. Now, given that people who are often oppressed have more stress and shorter lifespansâ shouldnât that be the other way around. The answer is in the womenâs way of coping with stress because caring about others, talking in groups, and laughing with friends are ways to combat the aging effects of stress.
Those are traditionally female preoccupations.
So maybe it isnât strange, from the view point backed up by this documentary, to wish for a society without a hierarchy based on patriarchal values of aggression and brutishness and trying to be the alpha male and outranking everyone else (and displaying your rank every chance you get). To wish for a society more firmly founded on care ethics, would value traditionally female values, and on good relationships with others. That is, a society with less stress, longer lives, and running on self-determinism (touched upon on the last parts of the documentary) that is a key factor in innovation and creativity.
