with his look of surprise remaining in tact,            he let the strap of his bag slip from his shoulders and drop onto the floor.                                 “ forget the meeting.   ‘cause i’m suddenly feeling very ridiculous about my                                                           whole song an’ dance thing. ”

                             “ honey … this is amazing. ”                   his smile widened as he returned her kiss, the feeling of comfort nothing short of amazing as he hesitated to separate.                              “ people are always talking shit about valentine’s day    and i’m over here just … loving every damn second of it. ”

❝ well hey now, that wasn’ my intention at all! ❞ lily’s soft melodious laugh carried across the dimly lit room, further emphasizing how private the whole ordeal was. she’d gone out of her way to really set a romantic mood.  ❝ iLOVED my gift, class and a show, who wouldn’t be delighted? ❞ her fingers sank into his hair, caressing the lower nape of his neck as she inched closer, littering soft kisses along his cheeks.  ❝ i’m really glad you like it, i didn’t want to be too overbearing. i’ve just figured out iREALLY like being romantic with you. it’s almost like we’re actually in a relationship imagine that? ❞ the girl teased happily, slowly pulling away.

he stumbled over the surprise of her pursuit remembering with some bitterness the nights he’d lingered for hours outside the gryffindor common room and he couldn’t bear to turn his chin and make sure she had truly followed he knew she was there. jaw tightening with annoyance at her question, he gave no immediate answer instead relentlessly lengthening his stride to outpace her “ perhaps your ‘head boy’ will know. …. why don’t you go ask him.  “ it would be nice to possess enough restraint to sound indifferent but even at this small mention, pure dislike clearly dripped from each syllable,  his voice a low hiss that managed to echo down the hall 

the way he outpaced her only fueled her fire, making her practically sprint to keep up with him and did not discourage her advances. he enraged her but still, she held a tender spot in her heart with his name on it.  “seeing as james wants nothing to do with you, i doubt it. besides, when have i been known to hand over my  responsibilities to anyone, you’re assigned to me therefor, i am responsible so i’d appreciate a direct answer thank  you very much.”

he walked deliberately,        trying not to take too long following his meeting with mcgonagall.                               it was a tad embarrassing how little he listened to the woman   speak as his mind kept wandering back to the note                 and what exactly waited for him in the common room.                                                                       suffice it to say,                                        mcgonagall was more than a little surprised when james  jumped up and rushed out the door once their conversation was finished. 

walking through the entrance,         his speed slowed down as he noticed the level of darkness that surrounded him.                                         he searched around,            his eyes noting countless balls of fire until they finally stopped                                  at the beautifully set up tent and the meal that accompanied it.  

with a wide smile crossing his features,                  he couldn’t help but let an impressed chuckle fall free. “ lily ? ”

❝oh, hey!❞ lily turned to face james, a bright smile overtaking her features as she set down her wand and extended her arms upwards. ❝surprise!❞ a soft laugh tumbled past her lips as she crawled closer to him, careful as to not knock over any of the carefully placed gifts she’d arranged for him. ❝i actually wasn’t expecting you so soon but i’m happily surprised. how did the meeting go?❞ she mused softly before leaning forward and pressing a soft lingering kiss against his lips.

lily was very good with words. she often took solace in her journal, the relief of her thoughts flowing through the ink and onto a piece of parchment was addictive to her. she enjoyed writing and as of late, her scribbles were veering much more towards a romantic inclination. she was in love, and it was obvious. when it came to romance, she was very ripe. she didn’t know how to execute it correctly, when a gesture crossed over the line of “too much”. but she was trying. and she loved to try with james. so when valentines day rolled around, she new she had to go above and beyond, trying to treat her boyfriend to an evening of privacy and adoration. the common area that the head students shared was pitch black, sheets covering a good majority of the furniture which dimmed the very few remaining lights that were sprinkled beneath the ‘tent’. once under the sheets, it was a whole different space. blankets and pillows lined the floor, floating balls of fire lined the borders of the fort creating a romantic ambiance without the hazard of a fire. in the middle of the set up was an enviable spread of sweets and a savory meal that lily evans sat carefully arranging, careful so as not to spill anything down the front of her ornate blush colored lingerie. now all that was missing was JAMES POTTER.

I know you were disappointed that I didn’t audition for the musical. Guess there’s something about watching me embarrass myself that gets you going. And while Summer Lovin’ in the common room is fun, it’s not what I would call romantic. So if you look up and see our dear old Professor Slughorn smiling at you, it might be because he’s already agreed to what I’m about to do. 

Anyway, I hope you like Barry White because I Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe.

“ … a lot sudden. ” he corrected, arching his brow in her direction as he studied her features. “ because we were both kidding. ” the words came out slow as he moved his head both up and down, a careful nod emphasizing his point as he looked forward again. “ besides, i spent all my money over the holiday. unless you want some cheap ass ring, you’ll have to wait for a few snatched wallets before we get all crazy. ” the boy offered her a bright smile, squeezing her hand in the process. “ still kidding. ”

❝yes KIDDING, i’m aware.❞ she rolled her eyes playfully, clearly unfazed by his clarification. they were barely even done with mid term exams she wasn’t actually considering marriage.... yet anyway.   ❝spend your wallet snatching money as you please love, don’t worry that pretty little head of yours over some ring.❞ lily laughed softly, leaning over to press a chaste kiss onto his cheek. ❝thanks for cheering me up. i might even be up for a drink now.❞

“ rest assured, your head will never be as big as mine. ” he gave her a reassuring, albeit humorous smile. the shift in her mood calmed him down, allowing him the peace of knowing that he had at least helped. “ yes, yes. you and your scenes. ya sure you don’t wanna be an actress ? ” he felt hypocritical in his amusement. if there was anyone who enjoyed an audience, it was a younger james potter. “ how presumptuous of you. what kind of idiot would i be to expect you, of all people, to say yes ? have i learned absolutely nothing ? ” he let out a laugh, stepping back and reaching out his hand, waiting for her to take it. “ i’m planning on taking the stockholm route. you’ll say yes after the thirty-second time. ”

❝i feel it’s necessary to point out i do love your abnormally large head. it’s been a long time coming but it feels right to admit.❞ she grinned softly, taking her time running her fingers along the length of his arm as she reached his fingers, lacing their hands together with a final sigh of relief. ❝maybe i’ll abandon this whole auror nonsense, the theatre is my true calling. but on that note, i’ll give you a good sneak peek. i’ll say maybe until it’s the right time to say yes. so you have learned a lot mostly because now you know with us there’s always a shot. alsoi’m not expecting a question though, seems a bit sudden. ❞

“Yes, that is exactly what I’m saying.” A chuckle escaped his lips, and in that moment he didn’t know why– for death wasn’t meant to be amusing in any sort of way. But perhaps that was a way for their generation to push aside the sadness that dwelled around each and every corner. He knew very well that if Lily actually were to pass away, it would break his heart – all of their hearts. “You may be, but it makes for a hell of a performance.”

❝ shameful truly SHAMEFUL. not that i blame you i can’t really say i’ve got on a hold on it either, i’m putty in his hands.❞ she laughed softly, almost carelessly even though the subject was ghastly morbid. somehow it was easy for her to joke about it even though fear striked at her heart whenever the subject popped up in the papers or other passing conversations.  ❝ perhaps i’ve learned from the best, i do love a good show. nevermind that then, how have you been, i feel like i haven’t seen you in ages. ❞

his gaze felt heavy, disguising a quick survey of her frame the only betrayal of discomfort a slight twitch beneath his eye, he refused to linger a moment longer in her unearthly glow  “ i was unaware you were taking notes on the subject of my whereabouts. “ words dismissive despite the painful twinge       that twisted the center of his chest                   sev? did she mean to play some cruel joke?  he felt winded, and without sparing her another glance severus made a move to leave somehow determining he was more likely to find what he was seeking in the dungeons, than her tense company  

the slightest snide remark on his behalf was enough to  tear a new wound into her soft heart, though she was careful enough to hold her expression though she was fearful that  the tears slowly pooling in her fiery eyes would be a dead giveaway. as he stepped away, lily let out a short breath she didn’t know she was holding, her feet following him though her heart objected the involuntary reaction. she was a masochist after all.  ❝seeing as i am headgirl it seems appropriate to know when and where  the prefects assigned to me are stationed, now what are you doing here.❞

“I would love to promise you this, but you know as well as I do, that James still exists.” And with that statement he arched his brows at the other before adding, “Pray tell how am I meant to get anything done in a way that won’t cause a scene when you are dating James Potter?”

❝REMUS LUPIN are you honestly telling me that after all this time you can’t come up with a simple plan to delay his mourning? oh who am i kidding, he’d throw a right fit but so would i. i MIGHT be overreacting in any case.❞ lily was clearly teasing, it was obvious in her expression though her tone was deadpan.  ❝ dare i say it rem, i might actually be a drama queen. ❞

“ hate to say it, but family always has that power. look at sirius. “ he was well aware of how lucky he was with his family. james was given a gift and while he didn’t appreciate it when he was younger, he had certainly grown up enough to realize that he needed to thank his lucky stars every damn chance he got. “ but if you ever forget that you’re a good person, i’ll be here to remind you. ” his smile grew, a bright spark visible as he leaned forward and gently pressed his lips to hers. “ my fiancee is gonna be jeaaallloouuusss, ” he joked, a carefree laugh falling free as he took a step back. “ don’t go getting any ideas, yeah ? it won’t be any fun if you’re not surprised. ”

❝that is a comforting idea but don’t tell me too often, i’m at risk of getting big headed.❞ she teased lightly as she pulled away from their gentle kiss. it never got old, the overwhelming peace that coursed through her slim frame when he caressed her soothingly.  ❝well now why’d you have to go ahead and invite me, you know how much i LOVE causing a scene, if your fiancé has a jealous fit i’ll be giddy.❞ the girl continued his jokes lightheartedly, the characteristic sparkle in her eyes returning almost like it had never left, thanks to him.  ❝hey, don’t you go getting any ideas, it won’t be any fun if you’re expecting me to say yes immediately. ❞

“ it’ll get better, all right! once i make it on the holyhead harpies, it’s goodbye, mum and dad - hello, freedom! ” gwen loved her parents, but they wanted her to be something other than what she was in all aspects. sure, she was brilliant and confident, but she was also stubborn, impulsive, and gay. that last one was what they took the most trouble with. “ look at you go, miss evans! things sure are getting serious then, yeah? ”

❝the harpies would be lucky to have you, soon all you’ll have to worry about is how many autographs you’ll have to sign at stadium doors. and of course, you’ll have to send me tickets to your games, i’m not the best quidditch fan but i’d definitely go just to cheer you on.❞ lily could relate to the constant feeling of suffocation around her mother but she’d been trying to cope with the negative thoughts, knowing very well there were far more pressing matters than her disputes over her freedom at home. ❝i would hope so, i really care about him. it’s been a long time coming to say the least but we’re really good, it’s nice.❞
