One last thing I’ll say on here is how shitty and bias that Digital Spy article is. Considering the journalist has always been anti-ballum and pro-sukeve.
You cannot speak about how Ben as a gay character wasn’t being portrayed in a correct way when the only way you believe a gay character should be portrayed is ‘campy’. When are people going to realise that Ben is a complex character with so many issues that over the years he has “hardened” as a character - gay or not, his sexuality shouldn’t define him and that seems to be the problem, you want it to define him.
You can still get the gay portrayal through Ben and Ballum without it being ‘campy’. There has been numerous times we saw Ben when he used to be that Ben, all the times he did his dancing with Lexi (and Callum) or when him and Callum sung girls aloud on the karaoke not to long ago. Did we not see the same thing? But there are also times where we did see the harder Ben because his character wasn’t defined to just being gay, especially after everything he went through with homophobia. That’s what made him complex, he had more then one side to him, his gay side, his hard man side, his soft side and his mentally ill side.
As for Ballum, I don’t care what anyone says they WERE infact written well, with the correct writers at least (another EastEnders problem), over this past year they were incredilbe and really healthy. The lack of kissing and intimacy does not make up chemistry or make two people a couple, we know the reason they lacked intimacy this last year was because Ben was R@PED! So therefore struggled with intimacy with Callum, again this was explained in the show when they had that WELL-WRITTEN and beautiful conversation that only a small portion of us must have seen. They still had more then enough natual chemistry (something Max and Tony were always good with) in just their natual touched with one another, forehead kisses, flirting and normal hand touches, arms around eachother. It was all natural that they didn’t need kisses all the time (unlike a certain couple - Yeah, Sukeve). Ballum are also suppose to be a married couple, which means they don’t need to physically show they are a couple at all times - they aren’t giddy teenagers, they are a married couple with a family.
I saw people comparing Ballum and Sukeve so…lets go there shall we (I didn’t start this). The show has had it in for Ballum ever since Clenshaw took over and Sukeve stans were inly ever fuelling that. It’s obvious Sukeve is Chris Clenshaw’s creation and it was only a matter of time before he got rid of everything from Sen’s era. Including fixing Albie’s paternity and getting rid of Sheanu and now Ballum, all of which were Sen’s era. I don’t care what anyone says Sukeve are NOT “beautifully written” they had the same boring cycle up until now that had zero progression, and the constant needless whispering was so fucking annoying. They are getting rid of Ballum because they now FULL WELL that Sukeve couldn’t become ‘the next big thing’ without doing so, Ballum would always be ‘in the way’.
Ballum were very well and beautifully written when they first started out, Callum’s coming out was lovely and it had so much praise. Ballum’s wedding attracted more viewers then this chrismas with The Six ever did and that’s a known fact.
It won’t be long before the show realises that they don’t know what else to do with Sukeve and they’ll become more boring then they are now. Bexause they will never have the complexity that you are all shitting in Ballum for having.
