“You never say no to an adventure, right?” Maryam inquired from the door way, she was leaning forward with both hands on both sides of the door frame keeping her from falling forward. “I wanna check out the northern part of this island.”

Reha lifted a brow at the girls back the smile falling off her face the second she was out of the other point of view. The worst thing anyone could do to Reha has underestimate her. She weighed the pros and cons for a second before quickly putting her smile back on and following the other. Thing like this almost made her want to speak the complete truth, curse the rich & spoiled, but she was playing the long game. She would soon be on top of the world so she couldn’t burn bridges until she’d cross them. She would let the other think her a goody-two-shoes for now if that’s what it took. She shook her head the girl’s words with an innocent look on her face as she looked around “Oh I’m sure he didn’t recognize you” her words hinted at something more but her tone was controlled in a casual enough range that would, she hoped, make the comment pass unnoticed. She nodded at the girl’s words making an effort to look interested, she really couldn’t care less about the style of the building. “incorporating as much light as possible was always a goal of architecture- we’ve just taken it to the extreme with modernism.” she answered with a small shrug “But I agree, green space is extremely necessary for a city.”
“I wouldn’t say always, the goals vary from each building and its functions. Lots of glass is flashy but fucking boring --- it just seems lazy to me,” Maryam continued, already certain that the conversation would not evolve into anything special. Not many people liked to share their thoughts on architecture --- mostly because they did not care much for it, a shallow opinion here and there was enough for them. “Have you settled in well?”

“clearly,” milo notes drily, unable to stop himself from rolling his eyes. these kids really were too much - this was why milo was glad hae-kyung was his princess. at least she had some level of contact with real life.
“money obviously doesn’t buy wit, either,” he intones, voice droll. “well i’m very sorry if i offended you, your royal wokeness. i’m sure you’ll recover eventually.”
For someone who was chastising her about an attitude, he certainly had a prominent one. She did not think he would go as far as to call her stupid but he managed to surprise her. An insincere smile was frozen on her face as she tried to keep herself from scowling. “I know, I’m sure your princess wouldn’t have minded sponsoring you a bit,” she replied. “Ah, yes, no, sorry, I gotta ruin that very witty nickname, I’m not a royal. My mom’s in the office and that’s it.”
“do you always take yourself so seriously?” milo drawls, tone fairly bland, almost conversational. “i guess all that money can’t buy a sense of humour, huh?”
“yeah, sure. why not,” he says with a shrug of his shoulders. “sounds like a hot summer trend to me.” he hums a small noise. “anyone can wear a coconut bikini, you know. clothes have no gender - even ones made out of coconut.”
“I’m sorry, I’m not in the most amused mood right now.” It was true actually, but the poignant tone she used might have made it seem like she said the words just to be mean. “No, but it helps you to develop your humour from first-grader’s.” She couldn’t help but to just stare at him --- how could he be so unfazed by the recent events? “But that wasn’t what you said, was it? You literally said girls in coconut bikinis, doesn’t seem very gender neutral to me. Just objectifying.”
milo ignores the irritation wafting off the woman - he really doesn’t have the patience to deal with jumped up royals that he’s not employed by. he’s always had very little patience for people like that - growing up in a rougher part of philly had given him a healthy level of disdain for the wealthy.
“we’re on an island, aren’t we?” he drawls in retort, electing to ignore her spiel about the island and shanghai. “it’s close enough.”
“Oh my God, stop reaching,” Maryam snapped at him before popping a grape into her mouth. “According to your logic if we were on an island in Alaska or something, there should be girls in coconut bikinis? It’s just stupid. Not to mention kinda sexist.”
“i’m surprised people in charge didn’t realize the giant ‘please bomb us’ skyscraper was a bad idea earlier,” min-ho drawls, shaking his head a little. “should’ve set up in a place like this a lot sooner. woulda saved a lot of hassle.”
min-ho was a little… grumpy, today. not surprising, really - he was pretty sure everyone was feeling the same way at this point. things had definitely been a little fucked up - the dude was exhausted, too. he’d forgotten how emotionally draining things like this could be - while he’d never been working during a threat of that calibre, he’d had a few close calls.
“this view sure beats the smog, huh? all we need now is some girls in coconut bras and some rum.”
She narrowed her eyes just slightly, the casual way he used seemed horribly inappropriate to her. She wasn’t in a mood to chastise him though so she just shrugged. It was a surprise that she even bothered to do that --- she was a bit too shaken to have the energy to interact in a normal way. “I don’t know,” Maryam said in a voice that made it clear that she disagreed with his statement about the surroundings. She had to say something, his opinion was so wrong in her opinion. “There’s literally one compound on this island, and it doesn’t look very interesting. The sea will always be blue and the plants will remain the same. After two weeks it gets boring. At least in Shanghai there was stuff to look at and stuff to do.” She had not had enough time to inspect the building and what it held but she was certain that the new library would not be able to compete with the old one, which was incredibly bad for her and her studying. “And really? Coconut bras? Aren’t we on a wrong side of the globe for that?”

Reha walked closer to the American girl with a smile on her face noting the other’s amused face “Something funny?” she wondered before looking around them for a second eyes focusing on the fruit ahead of them. She could feel her body guards eyes glued to her back like needles but was determined not to look. She’d grown in a worst place that this- she could perfectly take care of herself- not that the guards weren’t nice. Not for protection, but for the show. It was unlikely she could slip deeper into the market without being followed. But she would still take her chances and hopefully lose the man. “It’s like a wonderland, this place.” she commented looking over at the girl once more. She didn’t know the other well only from seeing her around the plaza.
Maryam’s eyes went to the guard who had, for sure, spotted her too. She hoped she was out of his jurisdiction. “You just have a lot to learn. To know the tricks of the trade you gotta have a teacher,” she turned around and continued to browse the stalls, she had a feeling the princess would keep following her. “He’s your personal bodyguard, right? You didn’t just take me down with you?” she asked as nonchalantly as she just could --- a slightly accusing undertone slipped into her words regardless. “Yeah, it definitely is. Everything’s super bright. Everything is just like fucking glass around the plaza. Windows are nice and all but I’ve always like art nouveau or brutalism. But those kinda futuristic looking buildings are a fucking bore to me. And I still haven’t found a park that I’d love. You have to have a park, y’know? Otherwise the city won’t feel like your home at all.”

“Nothing will happen” she assured the security person once more “Just a small market- it’ll take me about 10 minutes” she continued. “I’m likely more in danger of being recognized with a bodyguard walking with me.” she finished before starting to walk away from them much to their dismay. She had just seen the small market that morning from the window of her room, which watched over the smaller streets around the plaza, instead of the main one. As she walked further into the market she saw she wasn’t the only one, a familiar face from the plaza not long ahead.
Slipping out had become much easier ever since her sister had gone home and taken half of their personnel with her. She had started to just take strolls here and there, certain type of apathy had started growing inside of her ever since the attacks against Spain. She could not decipher the situation the world was in. So there she was, walking between the stalls and looking at each fruit and berry with childlike wonder. Little things made her happy these days. She saw the English princess argue with her guard and couldn’t help but to chuckle softly. What an amateur. The princess and the guard --- where was his work ethic? Just letting the princess slip away like that.
One of Keavy’s favorite type of music was classical, she found herself loving it ever since she was a child, her father’s taste rubbing on her. She had earphones in her ears as the sound of a piano played, the relaxing sound invading her every thought and embracing her being. Saying she was distracted was an understatement and that caused her to collide with another body “Fuck” the profanity quickly escaping her lips “Sorry, I was distracted” Kay glanced at the person she collided with and gave them a little smile.
And why exactly was she prone to accidents? She had no idea but it was starting to make her pissed. At life, at herself and at others, including the red head in front of her. “Yeah, whatever,” Maryam mumbled as she eyed the fresh stain of chocolate ice cream on her white blouse. She gave the princess a tight and brief smile because she knew she could not exactly afford to be too rude. “Guess I owe you an apology too. It takes two to crash.”
“look who decided to show up,” maryam said when her eyes fell on the sight that was hana dervishi. she rested her chin on top of her hand and studied the girl: what had changed, what had stayed the same. “i was already getting used to being in the top three: prettiest blondes in the plaza but then you just had to come here.” she sighed dramatically, the grin on her lips making it evident that she was joking --- about losing her spot in the top three or the whole thing even existing? that was for the princess to decide.
