i hate when i’m complaining about something and someone tries to one up my complaints like… i’ll be like “i only got 5 hours of sleep i’m so tired” and some obnoxious ass will pop out of nowhere like “oh well i got negative 47 hours of sleep this past week and i have to run a marathon tomorrow AND my father just banished me from the fire nation so”

sometimes marriage looks like this: going grocery shopping together and finding that your hubs snuck the prettiest cluster of baby’s breath into your cart. long, honest, open talks that fill you up and make you feel safe and heard and cared for. spontaneous weekend trips to the ocean. sweet words. all the kisses all the time. trust. growth. hugs when you get home from work.

sometimes marriage looks like this: staying up til midnight arguing; tears, dark eyes, crossed arms. shaky communication skills. circular conversations that leave you drained. feeling betrayed. feeling distant. feeling alone. feeling misunderstood. selfishness. pride. unmet expectations. unforeseen change.

the challenge is to love, respect, and honour the other person in both scenarios: no more and no less. love should not be conditional. love shouldn’t shift based on circumstances.
