//Okay okay okay this is going to be some spoilers for 4.1 and 4.2 for those who haven't cleared the main story yet so be warned. Also, it's a bit long ahah--
And yeah its gonna be about Skott dont judge my delusional ass okay--
Yeah, so, I'm still not 100% convinced that Skott is gone for good okay. Bear with me please. So, first:
Skott is was 34 years old.
The last Phantasmoon Games took place 15 years ago, which means Skott would've been 19 years old at the time.
I don't recall when he started working for the IPC, but let's assume that he started there around that time. Relevant? Maybe.
At the end of 4.1, when we've just finished speaking to Pearl, there's a file on her desk that we can collect/read, which states that the Herald of Death was a creature created by someone named Marcus, and that said creature was put down in the end. The remains and the research (important!) was then brought into the Strategic Investment Department for safekeeping (presumably).
When we first met Skott again in 4.0, he stated that he'd been transferred to the Strategic Investment Department thanks to Aventurine.
At this meeting with us, Skott was accompanied by another IPC-employee (I might be wrong here though, because while I think it's true, I don't entirely remember).
Then, when we find out about his death, it looks like he was at the Synwish Syndicate alone. This doesn't make sense to me for two reasons; 1) Even disregarding our history with Skott, why would he meet us with another employee, yet not bring someone else with him to that meeting? And 2) With Skott's history, personality, and the possible dangers (if things went wrong during the meeting with the Syndicate), would the IPC really send someone to such an important meeting alone? And also, as a sidenote, considering how important the mask was, why wouldn't they send in someone more experienced when it comes to negotiating (like Jade for instance)? Not to disregard Skott and the work he does for the IPC, but was he really their only option for that meeting?
Another thing I noticed was that throughout 4.1 and even in 4.2, Skott is consistently mentioned again and again, as if the developers don't want us to forget about him. Why is that? I hardly think it's to appease his fanbase, especially considering Tingyun's treatment back in the Xianzhou.
When Tingyun "died", we worried about her right after it happened and I believe there was the funeral thing for her too (forgive me, it's been a long time), but after that, there's no mention of her at all...that is, until Fugue is about to be released/appear in the main story.
With that last point in mind, could it be that we haven't seen the last of Skott? Is it a hint that he'll become playable (oh my god I wish sobs) or that he's not actually dead?
Now, going back a little, let's mention the Daybreak Squadron. Before they died in 4.1, they stated that they killed the Synwish Syndicate because of their sins and crimes. But then...what about Skott? Why would they kill him? He might be a jerk and skirt corners and such, but he's hardly a criminal. Was he just caught in the crossfire? Was it a mistake or an accident? Did they think he was part of the Syndicate? But he was dressed in his IPC-uniform, so it would be difficult to mistake him as one of them. Unless the fact that he was there at all was enough of a crime to them. Still, this part really confuses me.
Then, let's go back a little further: since we know that the Strategic Investment Department has all that research and remains of the Herald of Death (and so, presumably, the remains of an emanator of Abundance), and we know that Skott just recently joined that department, could it be that the person who died wasn't him but rather something made from this research? Or some kind of other clone or imagenae?
And so, since the end of 4.2 revealed that the person controlling Fulwish behind the scenes was Asat Pramad, could it also be possible that he's controlling Skott in a similar way, with the goal of stealing that research and remains? And perhaps Skott's death was faked in order to reach that goal? Since Asat Pramad is connected to the Elation (since he was the one who sent Fulwish her mask), I believe creating imagenae and the like wouldn't be difficult for him (especially considering his battle against Silver Wolf and the skills he showcased there).
And then there's the fact that the events at Graphia Academy with Sparxie (the high school thing with Skott) happened so soon before Skott's meeting with the Synwish Syndicate (if you look at the timeline). Would he even have the time to make it to that meeting at all after those events? And the way he just disappeared without any notice during the Graphia Academy events also makes me suspicious.
With all of the things above considered, I just don't believe Skott is dead. There's something else going on that we don't know about yet that I hope will eventually explain all these strange happenings and mysteries and loose threads.
I know that most of these things probably won't make sense to anyone but myself, but I really needed to get this out there (before it keeps me up yet another night aaughgh). If you can read through my ramblings, I applaud you.
