Heyo, the names Nathan but online, I go by xTekker where ever possible, I'm a self taught, full(ish)-stack developer, I mainly work with server infrastructure, both psyhical and virtual as well as big data.
Until recently, I was mainly on Reddit in tech related spaces and a friend of mine told me about Tumblr, so here I am to plague the space with my semi coherent ramblings about topics that I enjoy, study or just find interesting and coding projects I work on.
I'm 28 29 30 years old, although my body & joints feel 40 at times.
Based in the beautiful country of England.
Entirely self-taught since the tender age of 15.
Really enjoy nerding out about hobby topics, machine learning, Psyhics, rockets, space, engineering and more, if you ask me about them, I hope your sitting down and have a few hours spare.
Confident in a wide range of languages and frameworks from HTML(5) to React.
Currently working on a 3D adventure game in Godot! Follow @wyrmgate-studios to follow our progress or checkout wyrmgatestudios.com

I think im going to start a new series alongside the devlogs and call it "Tricks, cheats and janky shit" and just post about the stuff I've done in this game project that is straight up magic. "A peak behind the curtain" so to speak.
Hiya! I was wondering if I could get an invite link to the codeblr discord? I work full-time as a full-stack dev and was interested in getting more involved with the community here on Tumblr. No worries if it's not open to new members anymore!
Hello!!! Here is the invite link, we'd love to have you over :))

and we're always open for new members, so whoever is seeing this please don't hesitate to ask for invite :3
Strawberry jam and butter on toast is a godly combination, I believe that God spent at least 3 of the 7 days making this combination and then remembered the main task, making the world and hastily slapped the universe together and that's why we have animals like the platypus
Well, after some debating, we made the decision to abandon the 2D Side Scroller concept, we felt that we would'nt be able to make something we would be happy with. So, we moved over to 3D and began to create our vision.
...To say its been a challenge would be an afront to the word.
Rebirth
At first, we looked into plugins that would allow us to create open-world like terrain. Unfortunetly Godot doesnt really have any native support for making terrain in 3D, which is where Terrain3D by TokisanGames on Github came in and check out this amazing demo scene
But a lass, due to our own requirements, Terrain3D would not have worked for our use case. oh well, ONWARDS WE MARCH!
We did make some cool looking Terrain though:
So, we moved onto Blender. "Blender is a hard program to learn and even harder to master, it has a steep and often unforgiving learning curve." Well, I took that personally.
Not gonna lie...they wern't wrong
but they did exaggerate...just a smidge
Once I had the hang of things and understood where what was and what did what action, I begin researching on how to make terrain in Blender and after a few videos and some more researching on Shading
This is where we ended up. Pretty neat huh? but it still didn't hit for me. So I had the bright idea to add snow, now bare in mind that the node set up I had was for a procederual generation based on terrain Slope, so I would now need to add a way to add snow to the heighest peaks, sounds easy right? it was anything but
now, arguably, this looks pretty good, but It wasn't what I wanted. After looking up some examples of height based colouring this is what I had
A little looking into texture baking and exporting annnnnddd...
and then I had the bright idea to randomally scatter grass in a set radius throughout the island based on slope and boy......
It sure gave me...
A BAG OF PROBLEMS but in the end, I was victorious
(check out the new UI too)
Then we made a world border and eventually created a shader to make it look like rolling fog
The present day
Right now, we're working on getting the games preview done, working on systems like combat, magic, items and inventory as well as enemies and envriomental work. We're really happy with the current direction and how everything is coming together:
So there is a discord server for the codeblr community founded by the amazing @vexacarnivorous but since they are on a break I am the current server owner (was part of the mod team along with my dudes @codemerything and @xtekker)
So I'm going to take this opportunity to promote the server! We've been alive for about 2.5 years and it's a really frickin friendly community with so many amazing people who are ready to help with any questions without any judgement. And we also have a blast talking about a bunch of nonsense and shitting on genAI and other really cool stuff :3
I really love this community so much, and I am always open to the codeblr family growing and thriving and having a place to express their interests without being shamed by the big dudebros in tech who think vibe coding is an innovation of mankind (bleugh)
If you're a compsci guy with no place to yap about the knowledge that you have, OR if you're just starting out in your compsci journey and have no clue on what to do, and just need a community so you don't feel so isolated in your learning journey (bc trust me, I did — and that feeling is not great) join us here!!

Onwards and beyond, More progress!
Welcome to Wyrmgate Studios Official Tumblr blog!
In this devlog, we're going to dive into our shiny new website!
Cool, huh?
While this is still a Work In Progress and will most likely change a lot in the coming months, I'm mostly happy with where its at right now.
Eventually, there will be a seperate website for Doomscroller, which will contain things like Forums, a user area and more.
This site is built using WordPress. we did want to hand code the entire website but when I mapped everything out and what I wanted the site to have, It became clear that this would have to be a later project and not something I could achieve in a reasonable timeframe, while disapointing, I pressed on and looked at some familiar places, like Wix.com, which, while a good starting point would be outgrown rather quickly.
Then we found WordPress and after looking around and watching some videos felt that this could potentionally be the one. it looked easy enough to put together in a reasonable timeframe, had great scalablity and looked like it was full of easy to use content managment features. It was fairly easy to get it installed thanks to our Domain host having an easy to use install manager, from there, it was just a matter of creating the website how I envisioned version 1.0 of the website.
Have a look for yourself: Wyrmgatestudios.com
We also now have more social channels:
Reddit Commuinity
Twitter
Github
All posts about Doomscroller and its development will now be coming from @wyrmgate-studios
If you'd like to keep up with the development of the game, then please give us a follow! We'll be posting more in-depth devlogs and more frequently too, as we will soon be having another developer join us!
It'll all still be tagged as #doomscrollerdevlog over there
For Christmas last year, a friend of mine got me this, it was an 80,000 Arcade game box...
But It didn't work properly, so I put it down somewhere and forgot about it until 3 weeks ago when I found it again, I did some digging around and found an SDcard reader on the underside which held the software for the games, took it out and blanked it and it's pretty much now just an okay-ish mini pc with nothing on it...Queue the light bulb💡
It lives....
Yes, I did shove a USB hub into it, yes that is a 1TB external HD and yes, that is 2 USB sticks, it also has a 246gb sd card, I've also loaded Ubuntu server onto it
So, what am I going to do with it?
Well, I may turn it into a basic ass Samba server, or I may use it to dev test parts of my game/website. I'm unsure right now between those 2 choices.
