The reason Rick Leonardi remains my favorite Nightwing artist ever is because of how scrunkly he makes Dick.

The Dick-Jaybin crumbs are wonderful though. It’s so heartwarming to see Dick fully trust Jason here, despite his difficulties being in and around the manor. It strikes the balance of having that fissure between Dick and Bruce exist without having Dick project those feelings onto Jason.

Yes, Dick is impacted by the dwindling sense of connection he has to Bruce and to the world he used to occupy:

And this is in part a consequence of his growing distance from his time as Bruce’s partner. Despite this, though, this does not produce resentment towards Jason — something that could have easily emerged.

When Dick hears Bruce might be in trouble, the first thing he asks about is Jason’s opinion on the matter.

And when Dick considers the options of who Bruce would reasonably count on,

Jason is listed as one of only three people high enough on this list to be considered. As in, listed higher than an insane number of past allies that Dick could have referenced in his stead, or alongside them. Dick holds Jason in that high of a regard.

It’s sweet, and another instance of me wishing there was more Dick and Jason interactions during Jason’s time as Robin.

You can tell this is peak characterization because the Fab Five are all increasingly frustrated over how permissive Dick is of being mistreated,

meanwhile Dick is fully content with said mistreatment due to his undying belief that Bruce is The Best™️, could not possibly be fallible, and the others simply do not get it.

Okay @hood-ex hear me out. I had an anon ask what my opinion on the bending of all the family was once and I answered it here.

While I think I went more in-depth with the others, I argued Dick was an Airbender with unknown Firebender royal lineage. Being an Airbender with Firebender ancestors parallels Dick’s background and having Court of Owls ties in multiple senses.

You have the obvious connection between the Airbender nomadic roots and the circus, something Dick is proud of, but then you get the angst of unknowingly having connections to the elite, oppressive force (Firebender royalty; the Court) that later harmed him and his family.

I will take arguments but I will not easily be swayed.
