he stopped twirling the cigarette, though he didnât look away from it. he blinked once, twice, then twirled the small cylinder once again. âthereâs no fun in murder or accidents. though i guess that might have to be the way to go. i canât actually kill myself and if i set myself on fire, i would be considered psychotic, probably. i donât want to spend the rest of my life in an insane asylum â so, i guess the best way to go is to make it look as an accident, no? because if i make it look like a murder attempt, they would be trying to find the person who did it and, frankly, auradonâs authorities should be worrying about other things in this shit show of a country,â he mused aloud. then, at her question, he fell silent for what was probably a few moments too long. â⊠nothingâs up. iâm just thinking. we have our coma pact, so it only makes sense that i start plotting my actual death, no?â he finally said, then shrugged. he paused for another moment before deciding a subject change might be in order: âwhat were you so smiley about a moment ago?â
mal lifted a hand to point at the cigarette. âare you going to smoke or is this metaphorical?â after spending so much time with draco, sheâd taken his thoughts of suicide for granted. they were hypothetical. sometimes, it was just a dark humour. sometimes, you just needed to say stuff like that aloud. she knew the feeling. but also, with draco, she knew that if something was bothering him, heâd do anything and everything but admit it.
still, she hoped it was nothing. âyouâd only be considered psychotic if you survive. so, new idea: iâll kill you,â she shrugged. âshouldnât be too hard. i can make it painless. quick. and before you say something like âiâll get caughtâ...the monster thing was a one-off.â she lifted her chin, defiant. âi thought the purpose of the coma pact was so that we wouldnât die. weâre not alive but weâre not dead. if you go, i go.â she set down her phone once and for all. âweâve figured out we have some things to live for. like...the musical,â she added with a hum. when he changed the topic, she made a mental to find a way back to the old one later.
âstupid things. blaze.â she felt jittery again just saying his name between her and draco. âiâm thinking of telling him. that i like him, iâm telling him that,â she said in a matter-of-fact voice. she sounded surer than she felt. âone day.â

leaving the small-talk alone, miki concentrated solely on the heart of the matter, the more interesting topic, for a lack of a better word. it was daunting and completely unexpected, but at least she was having this conversation on neutral territory and not in their home dimension.
âyeah, azula.â she paused for a moment, lightly biting her tongue. âi turned seventeen in january.â
they were doing nothing but standing on the grass in front of the admin building now, but katzu could hardly notice anything happening around them. he was still staring at the theatre.Â
â...i turn twenty-two in a monthâs time,â he murmured. âi remember azula so well, i was old enough to remember her face. ozaiâs face. i saw them leave, and -- my father knew about you.â which would mean that he lied. did his mother know? did the avatar? a million questions ran through his head, no closer to getting any answers for them. katzu looked at her fully now, his eyes narrowing curiously before his expression slackened in resignation. â...i donât know what to do. i donât know what to say. but when they said your name in there --â he inhaled and exhaled, âi felt something.â
facrytalcs:
ânot much, probably. calls, texts, maybe music.â it would be easier to have her dance music on a portable device, after all.
miki stared straight ahead, not sure if she really wanted to hear the answer, even though it was her question in the first place. âmy mother told me about you. i think you were a couple of years old when she was sent to the isle, soâŠâ
he nodded again. âyouâll find one that suits you,â was his last word about it. small-talk was exhausting.
âyes. i remember your mother. my aunt...â katzuâs nose twitched, â...azula.â saying her name made everything seem more real, more concrete, and the reality of his cousinâs existence felt heavier by the second. he looked at her again, as if surprised to find her all over again. âhow...how old are you?â
facrytalcs:
âi guess iâll save up for a phone, at least.â sheâd barely been in auradon for two days and sheâd already seen about fifty students with their heads buried in their phones. she didnât have many friends ( or any, really ), but she supposed it would make life easier.
had katzu guessed who she was just from her surname? she had expected a bit more surprise, considering what her mother had told her. she looked towards the theatre when it was pointed out to her. âdid⊠your father tell you about me?â
âphones get complicated, but even a simple one will do. depending on what youâll use it for.â he paused. âiâm sure youâll figure it out.â he thought about offering to help her with that, but there was no use in making promises if this conversation didnât end well.
katzu stared at the theatre as he thought of how to answer. he looked to miki once, his brow crinkling, before looking back at the theatre. âno. and i wonder why you knew about me, but i didnât know about you. until now.âÂ
