Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

I used to be friends with this older couple my parents' age. I'd worked with the husband and we actually got really close. They were almost like parent figures to me. I decided to propose to my wife following a conversation with him about his marriage's ups and downs, like this was a really impactful relationship in the direction my life took. We all got closer after we stopped working together. They were at my wedding. We went to their house. The wife made me clothes and shared her bounds of craft stuff. She was so talented. We had a lot in common, with our backgrounds and mental health struggles, and she showed me things would be okay, she was my mom's age and she'd done it better, had a healthy life and family.

Last year he relapsed into alcoholism and drunk-texted me some really awful things. How he wanted to fuck me straight (his words), etc. It was so demoralizing, and I told him so. And then I never talked to either of them again. I never told her why. I doubt he told her. It was just too painful to process, and I still try not to think about it.

But she just passed away unexpectedly because of a brain bleed. I'm so sorry. She was such a sweet, funny person. She didn't deserve this.

Californians have the chance to end child marriage in the state all thanks to Kate Yang's endless activism to end child marriage in all fifty states. They will be deliberating about this in the next week or so, so any letters of support they receive in the next 48hrs or so will be very important.

Californian residents please share your support for the amendment proposed for AB 1267 and send in a letter of support to your legislators to make the minimum marriage age 18 with no exceptions. I also believe non-residents are allowed to submit support letters, but they have told Kate before that there isn't a lot of public concern about this matter and they would need to see more Californians support ending child marriage than previously.

I want to change my name because my parents named me after some Christian celebrity that they don’t even like anymore.

I feel like my name isn’t mine. It was borrowed from a random man I know next to nothing about and when I think about it I think of my parents’ disappointment at my being female.

I feel like it’s too late to change my name, even though I’m still young. I know people have changed their name later in life, but I feel like I missed all my chances. Everyone already knows me by my legal name.

So, I’m a bit curious. Who else has changed their name, why, and when? Or, if you haven’t yet, why do you want to change your name and when are you planning to? I want to get a feel for these kinds of things. Maybe I can have hope about changing my name.

i changed my name from the name i was using while trans when i desisted. i used to have a revulsion for my for my given name and now i feel fairly neutral about it but i’m not attached to it at all. i like my new one and have used it for 12ish years :) i also didn’t really pick it randomly or by searching names, it was a nickname my gf was calling me that i loved as an actual name. so i would say waiting for a name that you like to present itself is well worth it

I changed my last name as an adult, and go by it in the workplace instead of my first name. I'd always wanted to, my father was so violent and I felt like he truly owned me because I could never really leave even after I physically escaped, I was branded with his name. But I waited sooo long to do it because of the same things as you, feeling like everyone already knew me by my old name, that people would refuse to use it or think it was weird, etc. I wish I had done it sooner! It was so freeing when I got the judge's approval signature, I felt that there was a huge burden lifted off of my shoulders, like I finally belonged to myself. Do it ASAP!!

And the fact that trans stuff has become so normalized was actually a huge help in this lmfao because people don't want to question name changes right now, they're afraid they're going to be called a bigot if they say anything.
