AN DEN BOXEN LINKS ist eine Wanderausstellung rund um Klubkultur und Nightlife und kombiniert Malerei, Grafik, Fotografie und Sample-Texte. Sie wird im Rahmen der XXY Veranstaltung erstmalig präsentiert.

Wie verlieren wir uns im Kosmos von Tanzen, Party und Club ganz, ohne uns zu verlieren und für immer verloren zu sein? Und wie finden wir uns wieder? – An diese Fragestellung versucht die Ausstellung An den Boxen links eine Annäherung. Die Ausstellung ist ein Kind der Klubkultur Dresdens. Ihre Beteiligten engagieren sich in den Bereichen Bildende Kunst, Performance, Public Health, Label/Klub und anderen subkulturellen Zusammenhängen.

Konzipiert, in Räumen des Nachtlebens gezeigt zu werden, legt AN DEN BOXEN LINKS einen weiteren Schwerpunkt: Die Motive und Texte liegen auf sechs Postkarten (z.T. engl.) vor und werden an ganz unterschiedlichen Orten in Dresden zu finden sein.

Intention ist, jenseits von Selbstbezogenheit einen künstlerischen Zugang zu den uns beschäftigenden Fragen herzustellen. Die Texte geben in ihren Formen als gesampelte Remixe, Manifest oder Smartphone-Chat, einen ergänzenden Impuls, darüber auch zu sprechen. Achso, und wo treffen wir uns, wenn wir uns später verlieren? – Na vorn auf dem Dancefloor. AN DEN BOXEN LINKS!

Is it hard for festivals to book gender-balanced lineups? Into The Valley humbly suggests not. -

Some thoughts, in light of recent debates on gender inequality in music.

It is so boring. It’s talked about every year. And every year, despite all the criticism, it happens again.

This year, Creamfields has just 11 all-female DJ acts in a weekend of 230. This year, as usual, Forbes’ list of highest earning DJs was 100% male. This year, the RA Top 100 DJs was 9% female. Compare that to the British Parliament, which is now 32% female. But whatever you do, don’t ask why electronic music is still so far behind on gender imbalance, because you’ll get the same nonsense excuses: normally that there aren’t enough eligible female DJs, ignoring vast swathes of reality. And just in the last month, DJ and Giegling co-founder Konstantin, is alleged to have told a journalist that women are “usually worse at DJing” in a German article in Groove magazine.

This month’s selections have one thing on their mind: summer, in all its glorious modes.

Dresden’s Anna Adams opens this set for her hometown’s Uncanny Valley label with a warm, hazy cloud of voices and delay from Los Angeles’ Secret Circuit. But the temperature quickly plunges. The bulk of this session is like stepping into a walk-in cooler whose shelves are stacked with the chilliest coldwave, techno, and electro from labels like Lobster Theremin, Dark Entries, and Ortloff. Rave stabs splinter, acid swirls, and distorted beats struggle under the weight of all that tape saturation. EBM fans and analog aficionados will find plenty to love here
