One day, I'm going to write a full essay on this, but rn the thought is keeping me from working on my actual essay so I'm gonna put it right here.
In the film Gone Girl (2014), I find it interesting that Amy punishes Nick in a similar way to how her parents treated her growing up. When she made mistakes or failed at something, they created "Amazing Amy," a savant who excelled. Amy quits cello, so Amazing Amy becomes a cello prodigy. Amy gets cut from the volleyball team, Amazing Amy makes varsity.
When Amy punishes Nick, she creates a fictionalized version of him too. Because I want to and this is my post, I'm going to call this fictional version of Nick "Nefarious Nick." Similarly to Amy's faults, Nick fails too. He wants his wife gone, but he doesn't do anything about it. He wants a baby with her, but he doesn't get her pregnant. But Nefarious Nick does. Nefarious Nick gets Amy pregnant. Nefarious Nick kills Amy. Nefarious Nick beats Amy, while Nick just makes jokes with his sister about it.
I'm sure this was intentional, but it's definitely an aspect of the film that I don't see talked about enough (which could be my fault), but I would love to explore it more.
christian bale might be the only english actor who can do a good american accent
[tolkien voice] morgoth probably didnāt know what a flower was. and if he did it would piss him off
This gives me the same vibes as people complaining that a fic genre they dislike exists.
Bindweed, your hour has come.
you have permission to pick that 2 year old "abandoned" project back up. it's not mad at you for setting it aside. and maybe time and distance have helped ease or erase the things that made you put it down in the first place.
Hope so, I last gave it some love in 2010.
THE KING
never forget when saruman literally told gandalf "you've been smoking too much weed bro"
"You're smoking too much weed," says the guy who got addicted to manosphere podcasts on his orb and started a fascist militia with a side hobby of deliberate environmental destruction. Started cutting down trees to own the woke elves.
Okay really dumb idea but Iām working on some stuff for cons and I had this sticker idea that made me giggle so Iām sharing it with the class.
the thing about the hobbit movies is that even with all the extra bullshit they added to have it stretch across three movies, richard armitage is giving a legitimately heartbreaking performance as a noble king trying to reclaim his home and eventually falling to greed and madness. like he's killing it. he's carrying those movies so hard i dont even remember giving a shit about thorin in the book but i was fully crying when he died in the movies. he put his whole thorussy into that performance if we're being real

I made Dis blonde and a fun girly girl bc i just got bored of her being interpreted as Thorin #2 in a dress. Gimme dwarf princess, gimme spoiled youngest daughter with a big heart and a bigger diamond ring
a young ho who runs free šššŖ
every day proves that men will only write one-dimensional 'cool girl badass' types and think they've cracked the feminist da vinci code
GONE GIRL dir. David Fincher, 2014
I had an idea⦠what if Thorin is in crow costume⦠since they both like shiny thingsā¦
Its a very rough sketch but⦠who loves dark Thorin?
I donāt understand how a man looking like this also can be a big cutie
