Here is a quick tip:

Do you ever get stuck at the line art stage, feeling like your lines have to be absolutely perfect? I completely get it because I hit that exact same wall all the time.

But I wanted to remind myself and all of you that line art isn't everything when it comes to a finished piece. To show you what I mean, I put together a quick and simple visual guide💡

What I want to show here is that even if your line art feels a bit messy, the right shading can still bring the whole drawing together. (Though keep in mind, this might not be the best approach for commercial work. 😭)

The human brain is fascinating. It actually does this amazing thing where it automatically "fills in the blanks" for what we're seeing. This means that even if our lines are rough, disconnected, or full of sketch marks, our brains will naturally find the "correct" shapes and understand the image perfectly.

Of course, learning to draw clean, precise line art is incredibly important for improving our technical skills as artists. All I'm really trying to say is that it’s okay to take a little shortcut every now and then.

As long as the overall mood and message of your artwork get across, that is more than enough.

I hope this little guide can bring some comfort or inspiration to fellow creators out there.

Quiet Time

There is a specific reason behind this composition.

While the vertical format is great for smartphone screens, I also wanted to use negative space to create a distinct mood.

I believe that negative space can express a character's inner emotions. In this piece, the character is small, and the background takes up about 80% of the canvas. By drawing the character so small, I can evoke a sense of loneliness and solitude.

Another key point is the placement of the cloud shadows. I intentionally kept Caine out of the shadow. You can see the boundary between the light and the cloud shadow. I used this high contrast to make the character stand out and emphasize their presence.

Finally, let us look at Caine's angle. I purposely hid Caine's face and positioned them to show their back. If their expression were visible, this artwork would probably feel cute rather than lonely. I enjoy drawing figures from angles where you cannot see their faces. This approach leaves room for viewers to wonder what the character is thinking.

Creature Caine

I sometimes doodle Caine in his monster form. I’ve added a few of my own personal touches, but his silhouette is just such a fantastic design. This time, I drew a little doodle with a more goofy vibe. (Note: This is not shipping art!)

Angry Caine

I felt like drawing an angry Caine for the first time in a while. Even though he can finally express emotions with his eyebrows in the latest episode, I still end up using his gums as eyebrows instead! 😂

Your art is truly beautiful! The dynamic poses, wonderful use of blurs to build and add perspective, the colours, perspectives, just everything about it is really really amazing! I don't know enough art terms to say what specifically makes it so wonderful but I when I found your artwork it blew me away!

TADC is an incredible series that has given me so much energy and inspiration for my creative work. I love everything about it, from the unique personalities of each character to the Dreamcore aesthetic (sorry if that’s the wrong term!). Just so you know, I don’t think I’m that special, but I’m happy you like it! Basically, I create that chromatic aberration effect using 'film-style' filters or effects built into image editing software and apps. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of similar filters if you look into different editing tools, so definitely give it a search and try it out! 💡

"I didn't ask to be created"

Episode 8 was absolutely mind-blowing!

Rather than just being shocked by Caine leaving the stage, I found it truly incredible how the show finally laid bare all the anxiety and rage he’d been hiding inside. What I found really fascinating was how he started treating the circus members so recklessly once he entered that 'I don’t give a damn' mode.

Maybe deep down, he’d always held onto this faint hope that 'someday, someone will love me and the world I’ve built.' Even in that state toward the end, I felt like he was still reaching out to humans for some kind of salvation. Poor Caine.

He tries to intimidate others and make them dependent on him by weaponizing his power and pain, but at his core, maybe he was just crying out, 'Don’t leave me' or 'I need you to lean on me'

I’m sure his relationship with Bubble will be fully addressed in the finale, but I’m so excited to see how everything wraps up in this final episode!

These three pieces were created on December 5th last year. I remember painting them to the beat of some upbeat music!

Honestly, I tend to think "as long as the vibe gets across, it doesn't matter if the anatomy is a bit off!" 😅 (Though I often end up regretting the balance later…) But if the energy and mood of that moment reach you, nothing would make me happier!

I wasn't sure how to explain it in words, so I made a little visual guide for you.

① Imagine a 3D western-style toilet seat. (Sorry, Caine! lol)

② Add some thickness toward the back teeth. The small diagram on the left shows what the dentures look like from directly above.

③ Give the silhouette some definition by rounding the corners and adding subtle curves. (Actually, adding a jagged texture to the molars makes it look more realistic, but I usually skip that part! 😅)

④ Finally, pop the eyeballs inside.

Bonus: On the right side, I added my go-to "lazy" way to draw Caine! 😂 Explaining things is hard, but I hope this helps you even a little bit!

And one more bonus!: Here’s my personal tip for creating expressions.

I expand his range of emotions by combining the movement of the gums with the shape of the eyeballs and the size of the pupils.

I enjoy drawing them with different poses and facial expressions. This is one of those drawings.

The five Bubbles on the bottom left are actually saying "A-i-shi-te-ru" (I love you) from left to right! I just wanted to have some fun with their mouth movements.

(No deep meaning behind it lol)
