Well, Noah did say that we were going to be devastated and that the show was confusing, and it came true.

So Will still has hope for Mike liking him back in Vol 2… but its not until after his vision with Vecna (which we conveniently cant see) is when he officially decides its some dumb crush like Tammy because Vecna scared him that something bad would happen with Mike.

Also Will saying “Im ready to show him Im not afraid anymore”… yet the camera pans to Mike… maybe alluding to his agreement with this. I am pretty convinced that the writers chose to have Will coming out scene be a group scene because Will always brings out the best in Mike. Seeing Wills strength and confidence might be what Mike needs to accept himself too and no longer be scared. Just like season 3&4, it was constantly Will who was trying to bring out Mikes authentic self, call him out, and uplift him. I think Mike looks to Will for guidance way more than people realize.

It seems like Will put himself back in the rejection box from Season 4, but he doesnt know that Mike did already liked him there. (Even though many of us noticed the drop in Mikes face during the van scene when Will mentioned Els name). And if Mike didnt connect the dots that the painting and speech was from Will before… then he might realize now.

Not to mention Mike and Will fit conveniently into the wormhole… possibly foreshadowing it will rely on them. Which makes more sense when you think about how Shawn said Finn will do heavy emotional acting? And play central roles?? Yet we haven’t seen it from Finns side yet.

They purposely wrapped up Robin, Nancy, jonathan, Steve, Dustin, Lucas, maxs arcs…. So who’s left?? Mikes pov has been underwhelming and hidden overall. Everyone else is finally opening up, confessing, telling the truth, fining strength and being brave?? Max escaping Camazotz without music, Steve and Dustin healing their friendship and trauma about Eddie, Robin and Vickie discussing their issues, Nancy and Jonathan finally being honest…. But now it’s Mikes turn.

It also reminds me of the rainbow ship puzzle from Vol 1.. which has Mike and Wills Care Bears on the Rainbow ship with Holly… again hinting at their teamwork being the one that saves the day.

Nancy being unable to say “I love you” to Steve and having an offscreen breakup, then getting together with Jonathan, only to break up with him during a life or death situation while saying “I love you”.

Mike not being able to say “I love you” to Jane but later telling her during a life or death situation and having offscreen breakup?

It really sucks, but I believe that if that was the whole point, then they could have just written this “message” into the finale. Why leave it in volume 2 when the finale is supposed to be the biggest, most important episode?

Perhaps they have multiple messages: internal and external acceptance are one thing, because sometimes crushes do not work out and it’s ok, and this might actually help some people. BUT. The show isn’t done yet, and the First Shadow script clearly states that you can’t know how a song ends before it’s over. And this is right before saying “Then let’s make a gay one”. Byler isn’t bones yet. Because sometimes the person you’re in love with DOES love you back, like with Lumax, Jopper, Rovickie… there are sad endings but also happy ones.

Byler has been built up from season 1, and if the finale is as inevitable as they say, I really do believe that the ending of this song is gonna be a “gay one”.

Volume 2 really said “Screw everybody, no Byler for Christmas”, then gave us no one-on-one interactions between Mike and Will, and broke up Jancy 😭

Guys, don’t lose hope yet. The WSQK radio keeps reminding us that Vance (VECNA) is still messing things up and that on New Year’s they’re gonna “get it right”.
