Myself, I must remake

This piece of work investigates the relationship of the male body in the landscape through photography. I aim to confront both the loss of the self and of male identity. As I move through the decisive moment, I am retrieving fragments of what little self I have left amongst the frailty and vulnerability of the male being. In doing so, I reach and understanding that my being is ultimately of great insignificance seen in the landscape, yet of great consequence to it.

Mount Carmel Hospital 2014

Mount Carmel Hospital was a private hospital in Churchtown, Dublin Ireland offering healthcare to privately insured patients . The Hospital was founded in 1949 by The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary (the “Sisters”) with a philosophy to create an exceptional patient experience supported by excellent facilities and a dedicated nursing team. It is part of the Mount Carmel Medical Group. In January 2014, it was announced that the financial support from NAMA propping up the hospital operations was being withdrawn and a request was made to the High Court to appoint a liquidator. The closure of the hospital resulted in the loss of over 300 jobs after the appointment of the liquidator The closure was discussed by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children on 18 February 2014. The hospital closed for a year & reopend in 2015 providing the public with short-stay and transitional care.

Second Year Exhibition

This series of work is an investigation into the vacant rooms of North Dublin’s Richmond Hospital. The absence of life throughout the building is mirrored in its many empty rooms and maze like corridors, hushed by nightfall and brought to life once again by the light of day that pierces the atmosphere and absence that courses through the building. Thus, transforming stationary reality to create a new world as mysterious and powerful as those found in our dreams.
