Joy. What can I say besides the cliche... you are a joy :-) I had SO much fun rping with Yana and Bane. Maybe she can get the better of him sometime... or Sidjay and Bane could go for a beer.. I'm sure I'd have a great time either way :-D
AaaaaAAAWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwww, Faye you are THE CUTEST!!!
And yes, all of that will definitely happen, I'll make SURE of it, and DAMN university for being so time-consuming, I miss all of you! <3
Broken Bows || Yana & Bane
Bane only looked at Yana when she asked him if he wanted to bury the creature, trying desperately to keep his temper in check. He wanted to explode at her stupidity, but the girl was too fragile. If he let his temper flair up at her, she would doubtless either clam up or attack him. Her reaction to grabbing her shoulders was proof of this enough. But there was no time for her to be shocked into silence or waste time having a pointless battle (even if he was sure he would be the victor). Bane instead managed to take a deep breath and calmly ask Yana to lead the way. She pointed in the direction and Bane strode off quickly with her, his mind reeling with possibilities. As they walked, Bane itched to use his magic there quicker, but he knew the girl could never keep up. But Bane felt his ire raise up at the girl every step they went. Her shaky directions aside, was Yana really so clueless as to ignore the implications of such a beast in the forest?
Bane sucked at his tooth irritably. This would be just his luck wouldnât it? Weeks of everyone chasing their tails for the slightest clue about these disappearances with no luck whatsoever, when this little idiot gets the first solid lead Bane had heard of since they had arrived and thinks nothing of it. Thank Gods she ran into someone with sense before some other foolishness filled her head and caused her to forget it. But still, did it have to be him? The woods were truly glorious today and Bane had planned on visiting the hidden hot springs near the mountains to enjoy the sunset. But no. Instead he had to follow Yana around like a dog on its best behavior so not as to scare her off.
Still, it would be worth it to gather a solid clue about the disappearances. As much as he loved the woods, the thought of getting this mission over was well within his goals. Sure, Bane had plenty of free time in the woods, but he had even more back at base, as well as more resources to study. Not to mention the less distractions his commanders had, the more likely they could finally finish this idiotic war and he could concentrate on his work. Not to mention, even if this event was totally unrelated to the disappearances, it could pose a real threat to his safety (and the rest of the Compan probably) if gone unchecked.
Finally, after about a half hour of walking, they reached the grove Yana had mentioned. Bane walked into it skeptically. Though he didnât doubt that Yana had at least wounded the creature, there were no guarantees on how this scenario would play out. Bane finally found a large blueish stain indicative of a dead animal about the size Yana described⌠but no body.
The way to the grove had been walked in utter silence, which Yana found incredibly irritating - until the forest sparked her adventurous spirit again. Before she had talked to Miero while walked there, not concentrating on how many hidden gems there actually were right around them. A tree fallen over with a hole underneath - surely some sort of cute animals lived in there! Although, the last cute animals she met in this forest had been quite the shocker.
Every handful of minutes, Yana turned around to Bane quickly, beaming a smile at him - though actually, each time she saw something interesting or explore worthy, she automatically turned around, thinking to find Kalita. Instead it was always tall Bane, who looked at her his arched eyebrows - which seemed pretty likeable, compared the other looks he usually gave his own Compan.
Eventually they arrived at the scene of death, and both froze. Bane first, Yana slowly. "I don't understand.", she said in her relatively thick Huntian accent, "This was where it happened. There is the blood.", the blonde continued, pointing at a little blueish liquid tainting the ground. Blue? Yana really had no idea about blood, she found it rather disgusting when she wasn't aggressively trying to shed it. But didn't all mammals usually bleed red?
"Maybe someone burried the thing already?", Yana turned to Bane with big blue eyes, hoping that was the solution to something she really kind of didn't want to explore.
Another Green World || Miero & Yana
âAugh!â Miero flailed, scrabbling at his shoulder, nearly clocking himself in the head with his own bow. The Thing had attached itself to his neck, a sharp piercing pain radiated from the puncture wounds. It flapped its wings against his head, battering him. Miero gripped it tightly by the neck, and breathing deep, yanked back on it.Â
The pain was incredible, but the beast let go, and he flung it to the ground. His neck was bleeding deeply, but he was too preoccupied to deal with that until the threat had been vanquished.
His yew bow was the closest thing to a weapon that he had, and not thinking clear enough to grab for an arrow, he swung for the creature with the bow, like it was a club. The thing was too fast, though, and rather than taking a sharp blow to its head, it trapped the bow with one long talon, and then caught it in its jaws, pulling at the wood.Â
And so ensued a tug-of-war the likes of which had never been seen in WoodElvia, or anywhere else for that matter, and it is doubtful itâs like will be seen again. The young prince valiantly heaved on one end, the fluffy bear-owl insistently clamped its fangs onto the other, the elf swore, the creature gafkwrobloo-ed.
Miero began to sweat, trying to wrench the bow free, but it was as though the beast had become part of the ground, for all the good it did. With each yank, the bow slid further from his grasp, until he remembered Yana, and shouted to her, âHit it or zap it or something! I NEED my bow!â
Yana's smile dropped into a grotesque mask faster than she could ever blink. What had before looked so adorable was now making best efforts to eat her friend, and instead of cute it looked... horrible. Worse than a gremlin, the face pulled into a grimace, the cute button eyes were now snake-like pupil slits, glowing in the dim light.
It would have been brave to pull her bow right then and there, but Yana was frozen in shock - it had all been so fast, it was still happening so fast! It was still happening! Feeling utterly betrayed by the previously cuddly creature, the BloodHunter rose her bow and let a simmering green arrow appear, pointing it at the thing sitting on Miero's shoulder.
Yet with him struggling, and the beast flapping its wings, and them both moving so much, even though she wanted to, releasing the arrow was far to risky. Which was something she had learned the hard way - when or when not to shoot, and it still annoyed her - but she liked Miero and weirdly enough even she knew that a hole wouldn't do his already punctured neck any good.
But before she really could get angry, Miero was already choking the thing, and threw it from his shoulders down on the ground - beating it hardly with his longbow, which the monster then grabbed.
That was too much, cute and disgusting at the same time, snake fangs, wings AND just as strong as an Elf? Yana shuddered, and the creeps jolted up her spine, urging her to step on one leg, or get up on a chair and scream for Kalita to kill it. But instead of her yelling for Kalita, Miero yelled at her, and even though it took her a second, Yana realized she was indeed still holding her bow. The arrow had dissolved by now, but it didn't even take her another second to pull another one and shoot it right through the creature's neck.
Then the chest, and then the head. One time might probably have been enough, but Yana was just so disgusted that she even skipped up to the thing and gave it a good kick, before turning around to Miero, jumping on the spot and flapping her free hand. "Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew!", she repeated, shaking herself.
Opening her eyes, Miero was there again, bleeding, and her mind freshened again. "You're bleeding!", she said unnecessarily, and went up to him, grabbing his arms to further look at the wound, and press her face into a disgusted expression again. "You need a Blue Mage, definitely.", Yana continued stating the obvious, yet looking at Miero with severe and honest worry peeking through her disgust.Â
Broken Bows || Yana & Bane
Bane shook his head with disbelief. If Yana hadnât given such a detailed description of the creature, he would have asked if Miero had simply imagined it to cover up some clumsy injury of his own design. Yana could still be telling tall tales, but of the two of them, he would suspect Miero more for making up exaggerated stories to avoid embarrassment than Yana to lie so descriptively. Bane knew she was simple, but she was not a liar. She just didnât have the imagination or the skill.
Bane furrowed brow and rubbed his temples.  He had admittedly not seen this whole forest, but he was sure he had covered more of it than anyone in the camp in his isolated wanderings. If there were such creatures in the forest, he more than anyone would have seen some sign. Granted, he had mostly used his magic to turn the landscape into a pleasant green blur to cover what he had, but a mammalian predator of Yanaâs description should have been easy to spot when he slowed down. Not to mention that of the animals he had seen, they hardly seemed to require sharp claws and fangs that could go through flesh like butter to become prey. A butter knife maybe⌠ In short, the natural pressures did not indicate the need for this âdrop owl bear.â Nature was all about balance, and her description spoke of something⌠unnatural.
So if she wasnât lying, but the creature she was describing didnât make sense either, what did that mean? A shape shifter maybe? The ability to deceive in a forest full of animals that were unarmored, but quick, would make sense. As she said herself, she could barely bring herself to damage it based on its âcuddlyâ appearance. But what about Mieroâs injury? The shape shifting animals he had studied could only change their appearance, but were quite small and defenseless despite their projected image. But what if the animal was only what it appeared to be? What did that mean? Could someone have brought it here? Could this be involved in the childrenâs disappearance? What of Mieroâs injury? An unknown animal wound could carry all kind of toxinsâŚ
Bane looked up at Yana to see her looking expectantly about something. Had she asked him a question? No. It didnât matter. Bane grabbed her by the shoulders and asked her with baited breath, âCan you show me this animal Yana?â
While Yana was drifting a little away, thinking about guilt and how she really couldn't trust the forest, she shook out of it, afraid Bane might give her a look for dreaming off.
Yet, when she looked at his tall build, he was still there, thinking on his own, his expression confused - no, doubting - no... Yana had never been one to read people, or what was going on in their minds, so this was no surprise. But while Bane's expression seemed solid, his eyes seemed to flicker, thoughts chasing thoughts.
Taking this opportunity of him not paying attention, the BloodHunter had what felt like one of her first thorough looks at the man. The hair was a dark blonde, with the WoodElf-typical green hint shining through at the roots. Grey eyes, the prominent mole... he actually did look somewhat like her uncle, really. It stung, to know that someone who looked even similar, would never be him, was so different. Her uncle had been warmth and fun and joy - Bane was neither of them.
Then Bane grabbed her on the shoulders and Yana blushed, and jerked together. Had he noticed her staring? Instantly boiling up, Yana aggressively shook his hands off of her - which was more of a shock reaction than her being angry. It had gone as quick as it had come, and Yana only tilted her head at Bane's request.
"I can. I think it should still just lay there. We ran to the Blue Magicians right after it fell off his shoulder.", the blonde replied to him, and added, a little confused: "Do you want to bury it?" - remember her uncle's best friend, Amean. He did that.
"It's not far, we sat over there at the stump.", Yana explained, as she exited the tent together with the man, pointing into one direction, "And from there we went into the forest. To a grove, sort of."
Another Green World || Miero & Yana
It seemed Yana had forgiven him for the berry, judging from her reaction to the water and all. And she was smiling again, which was also good. And then she was scary for a minute, and Mieroâs eyes grew wide with worry⌠and then she was happy again. He let out a breath. She was a very intense person, and if she was any good with her bow (he thought she probably would be) then she was also very scary.
Listening to her talk about her childhood, hunting and training with magic, he found himself a little jealous. It all sounded like a grand adventure to him, so different from his and Reedâs upbringing. Theyâd had books to study, and couldnât leave the palace grounds without supervision, let alone climb trees or do anything really fun and awesome. Heâd dreamed of running away, a few times, but even when he was imagining it heâd start to miss his parents.
âYeah⌠well⌠um. See, when youâre a plant magician, you have a couple of things you can do⌠one of them is learning rapid growth work, like with the berry? Thatâs what most Knights do, because they can use it to wrap people up in vines and stuff, and then go in with a sword or daggers and take them out that way. But that always creeped me out. So I mostly focused on doing rapid growth on big trees. You know how in a place like this if we were being attacked weâd have to shoot between the trees?â
âWell,â he explained, excited to talk to someone who might get it, âI climb a tree, and make a little platform. The higher you are, the more you can see, and the more warning you can give people down below that theyâre being attacked. Thatâs the idea, anyway. I thought that was probably the best way that I could help out, in a fight. And then since I was up there, it just made sense that Iâd use a bow from there.â
Glancing up at the treetops as he spoke, some movement and a rustling of leaves caught his eye. âHey, do you see somethingâŚâ
And then it dropped.
Listening to Miero speak, it felt weird. He explained his magic, and why he chose the bow, and it made sense - but he used it so different from her. While he thought about things, and used his magic to give him a boost to use his surroundings, Yana didn't do that at all.
She was really more of a hunter. Find the target, get in range, shoot a hole in it. Yana could shoot running, and had learned how to shoot from a horse - even though that only to a certain point, if she missed, it made her become frustrated. And once she was frustrated she tended to blame it on that stupid, damn horse. From then on things only got worse.
What Miero explained sounded more like some sort of tower defense thing. Like a protector, having his mark, and getting everything crossing the border down. It sounded like the fables she had heard about the Elves, where you get lost in their forest, too close to their Kingdom, and suddenly found yourself surrounded by intimidating icy eyes.
Well, Miero's eyes looked rather cute, and maybe it was because he seemed so nice, or because Yana hadn't seen him fight before, but being ambushed by a horde of Miero made her giggle a little to herself. It probably made her look silly, but it sure would be a fun day with 10 Mieros. Kalita really had to meet him.
"Makes sense.", Yana replied to his story, but before she commented more, the Elf pointed something out. Something that then proceeded to fall on him. Yana pulled her bow and arrow so fast, she hardly remembered it, but there she was aiming her longbow right over Miero's right shoulder, and arrow glowing eerily, her face stern.
Then she squealed. "Oh Great Sun, it's so fluffy!"
Indeed, the surprisingly big - almost the size of his torso - thing that had dropped from the tree was very fluffy, with thick grey fur and a few sleek grey feathers around his wings. The wings it was flapping quickly, shifting its position on Miero's shoulder, trying to find something comfortable. It looked so fat, and the wings too small for such a body that it gave it an even cuter vibe.
The best thing was its face, however. A straight A teddy-bear face, with large round ears, a knubby nose and big black button eyes.
"It's adorable, can you see it?", Yana said to Miero with sparkling eyes, giggling like a small child. Skipping from one foot to another, she gave Miero another admiring look: "It must have liked you, it looks so content. So soft!"
Stepping close to the man, Yana innocently reached out to touch the furry little bear-owl creature - which was when it bared its long, thing snake fangs, and bit Miero.
I am glad that despite his death, he did save you.
...
Thank you.
Have you ever kicked some guys ass because he wasn't nice to you?
Of course, I don't like insults very much. They hurt, so I'm just hurting a little back.
Will your sadness over Gythan's death ever get lesser because he sacrificed himself so you can have a better life?
I'm not sure. I think, maybe. I know he loved me a lot, and wants me to give my best, so I will.
But in the end he was still murdered right in front of my eyes.
Know any secrets about Kalita you'd like to share?
Nice try, loser! I'm not going to share Kalita's super secret secrets!
Have you ever wanted to tell someone something but didnât?
Hm, nope. Why wouldn't I?
Broken Bows || Yana & Bane
Bane focused his eyes on the girl trying to set his considerable intelligence towards enduring what he was sure would be an inane conversation. He did not know Yana as well as some in his Compan, but from what little he knew of her she seemed far too naĂŻve and innocent for the field of battle. A child really. In fact there were many times Bane was tempted to give Yana a piece of candy and leave the fight for the real warriors.
The wide eyes of gratefulness Yana had given him when he had pointed to the bows were as a good example. It had been so tempting for Bane to give her little blonde head a good pat and tell her to go home to mother (or mother like equivalent). Then again, much like a child, Bane had also seen Yanaâs temper and he was sure she would react poorly and he was, after all, trying to be ânice.â
But the conversations of children had never interested Bane, even when he was a child himself. Not that he had much patience with adults, but the chances of intellectual stimulation seemed more likely with them and just the thought of lowering his mind to Yanaâs child-like wits made his head start to ache.
Then suddenly, just when Bane felt his mind start to drift as she talked about â whatever it was she was talking about â Yanaâs explanation about the circumstances surrounding the broken bow sent his head spinning.
Bane found he couldnât even interrupt Yana with his question only blurting out after she had finished, âA drop owl bear?! What the hell is a drop owl bear?!â
Yana startled when Bane's voice rose again. Before there had been a half awkward-half comfortable quietness, with neither of them really expecting the other to talk, but somehow, Yana hadn't just gotten the bow, and went, she was still here. It wasn't bad though, Bane did intimidate her, but she didn't really feel threatened, either.
Looking at the man for a second, she almost laughed, because if she hadn't seen that kind of monster first, she would have asked it in probably the exact same tone. Huntia had tons of horrible creatures - flat snakes, sand sharks, cactus faerys... but at least all of them looked the part, and didn't trick you by being soft and furry and cute.
Sometimes, she missed Huntia. Especially after her ujac's death's anniversary Yana wished she could just take Kalita back to the desert and her family. If only there wasn't that thing with the Ryon's. But that was a whole other thread to unravel, anyway.
"It's... bad.", Yana said, remembering the glimpses she had of the animal before she shot it, and shuddering, "It looks like a tiny grey bear, with big ears. Really cute, big black button eyes. But it has super sharp, long claws. Vampire fangs. On the upper and lower jaw. They went through flesh like butter.", she remembered, shuddering.
"I shot and killed it, because it was starting to eat Miero. But I still feel guilty, because it looked so cuddly, though.", Yana admitted, then looked at the man again, afraid he was going mock her. "Why are you in the weaponr- weapon tent?", the BloodHunter quickly added, hoping it would diffuse the situation.
Broken Bows || Yana & Bane
It had been a fairly good morning for Bane. As far as he knew, the Commanders were still chasing their own tails over this disappearance business and it had given him ample time to pursue his own⌠interests. Furthermore, most of the Compan had taken to avoiding him today, a thought he relished with glee. So few of them had earned his interest (let alone his respect) so the more time away from them the better.
His joy at its peak, Bane took out several of his knives and started juggling them to amuse himself while he whistled a tune from his childhood. After a few minutes of this exercise, it reminded him it had been some time since he had sharpened them. He decided to wander over to the weapons tent to search for a new whetstone.
Bane clicked his tongue at the interior of the tent. It was a mess. Usually Maik would volunteer to clean it up. Bane was glad theyâd left him behind, but he still wished there was someone dumb enough to take up his chores.
As he rummaged for a new whetstone, Yana approached him, looking sulky. She impudently asked Bane for a new bow.
Bane inwardly rolled his eyes. Jauhar warned him about being too outwardly rude to his fellow Compan members, in case he raise their ire so much that being in same Compan would not spare their wrath. Bane noted they would be fools to try to attack him, but the thought held some logic. As a Knight he was the enemy of every Mancer. There was no need for him to make more. So Bane bit back the urge to ask Yana whether he looked like a servant, and instead pointed to the back of the tent.
âI think I saw some over there.â He said without any particular inflection and returned to his rummaging.
Then he paused, deciding against his better judgment, to strike up a conversation. Perhaps it would be to his benefit to make at least one other aquantince.
âWhat happened to the old one?â He asked, trying hard to feign interest.
It was only when Yana had fully entered the tent that Yana noticed that the man was actually Bane - and she instantly felt a little worse. Tyren Bane wasn't really popular in their Compan, but it was kind of his own fault. He was constantly crashing together with Chrysanthe, and while Yana actually rather was on his side at that point, not liking Chrysanthe too much herself, Bane was playing around with the other members of the Compan, too.
Yana knew that she was too innocent for her own good, Kalita told her often enough. Even if she had matured after her uncle's death, Yana still was rather naiive around people - and had fallen for Bane's manipulations more than often already.
So naturally, the blonde was a little more careful about the man who seemed to try and make everyone dislike him. She almost expected him him snarl at her, or say something that would make her look stupid - which again would make her angry again. "Oh, sorry, you don't have to-", Yana already started, but instead of what she feared, Bane actually answered her question, leaving her with big eyes.
"Oh.", Yana said again, and looked where the man pointed, to the bows. "Thank you, Bane.", she continued, and smiled at him a little, walking over to the longbows, looking for one that looked similar to the one that was broken. Unlike her Huntian hard, rigid wood, the wood of Miero's bow was softer, and it was slightly bigger than her bow.
Already in her own thoughts again, Bane actually starting a conversation surprised her even more. He didn't even sound like Chysanthe, blaming her for breaking a bow, he just sounded... interested?
"I made a new friend, and we fought a Drop Owl Bear.", Yana said, as if it was something that didn't need an explanation, "It was his bow, but his bite wounds are being healed right now. So I'm getting a new one for him."
Another Green World || Miero & Yana
He watched in consternation as Yanaâs cute face contorted around the berry. Evidently heâd understated how bitter it was, but Miero was used to eating all sorts of food and plants, so he didnât really consider⌠next to something like dandelion or rhubarb, these wild berries would have seemed like a mild treat, but not everyone would feel that way obviously.Â
Hurriedly he dug through his pack which was resting next to the tree, and pulled out a water bottle. He handed it to the girl, who was being very polite, all things told, saying, âSorry, sorry! I should have asked you if you wanted it, not just told you to eat it! Sorry!â He hoped sheâd forgive him for forcing it on her.
As for orders and superiors, Miero had asked Beck (before the cooking incident) earlier whether he should be doing anything specific, or if theyâd want him anywhere, or if he was free to wander. While Beck wasnât officially the head of their group, with Zea and Emonia not being present, he was the most mature and responsible, and so most of their compan had just automatically promoted him to leader.Â
Beckâs response to Mieroâs question was that if their plant magician lost his way in a forest, itâd be better for everyone if he stayed lost. People had laughed, but it made him actually quite uneasy. Miero often worried a little that they might really drop him from the group if he wasnât good enough with his magic, and then where would he be? So keeping Beckâs warning in mind, he lead the way to the clearing. At the very least he could get some good practice in.Â
When they got to the clearing, and both pulled out their bows, Miero began to stretch his shoulders out a little as he asked, âWhat made you take up the bow? Usual Huntian weapon? or because of the Green Magic? I donât know that much about either of those groups,â Miero admitted shyly. âOr was it a personal thing? I know it was for me,â he offered.
Still recovering from eating that berry, Yana played around with her tongue in her mouth, trying to rub it on her gum to get rid of the last bit of taste. Looking at the blackhaired boy again, she had to giggle - he was a mess. Apologizing over and over, as he offered her a bottle of water, and Yana took it. He was adorable, like a puppy, and Yana just loved being treated like a little princess - something she really didn't get to know when she was still the oldest sibling. "Thank you, Miero.", she said and let the cold water run down her throat, instantly making the whole world a lot more bearable again. "Ah, that was so good!", she added, and smiled at him again, before her smile vanished in an instant: "If that was an attempt to sabotage the contest, I'll take it personally though.", she said in utter seriousness, eyeing him, but them smiling again. Miero wouldn't do that, otherwise he wouldn't have given her the water, right?
The clearing in the forest was beautiful, for a forest that looked so intimidating and dangerous. Everywhere else, the trees were so close together that travellers walked in darkness, but here the winter sun was able to shine through, and the hard frozen ground was still a little softer than the rest of the forest, coated in a light bit of snow. Looking at him, Yana felt a little bit superior - just for this contest she wouldn't have started stretching - so pouting a little, she mimicked the Elf and did her best to repeat all the steps and moves Chrysanthe had once taught her.
"I don't really remember if I got my bow first, or my magic.", Yana said, trying to think back at her childhood. "Bows and hunting is something from out culture, but my family stopped hunting long before the last Aliens disappeared. I think.", Yana explained, as if it was all common knowledge. "But I do remember that I was given this bow, and then I started training my magic, so I think it was afterwards. They said I was like my uncle." Sucking in the cold air, Yana's smile was gone, then she swiftly grabbed her longbow from her back, and looked at Miero. "Personal thing?"
Broken Bows || Yana & Bane
Trying to finger comb through her ruffled hair, Yana walked through the camp. She was still shaking her head at what had just happened, and her heart was only now calming down from the shock. After all, and owl bear had just dropped on them. And it had looked adorable, until it opened its mouth and a set of horrifying razor sharp i-will-rip-your-throat-out fangs almost sunk into poor Miero's neck.
He was unharmed, but it was quite a shock, so she had told him to lie down for a second, wrapped tightly in a blanket, just like she always did with Kalita. Without the kisses on the forehead, hugging and hair stroking, but even if Miero was super fun, she did only get to know him today, and Yana really almost only liked the touch Kalita anyway.
"Uh, I need a new bow. Longbow.", Yana said to the man standing there, as she entered the weaponry tent. It was pretty much the only thing Miero said, clutching to his broken one, cradling it as if it was his child. But the Bloodhunter understood. A weapon was part of you in the war, was what protected you, and what you always had on you. It suddenly missing was like losing a limb.
Another Green World || Miero & Yana
Miero struggled to think of a good answer for her question. âI donât know, but I think the combination just naturally goes together⌠likeâŚâ he laughed, ââŚlike lasers and archery!â He never was great with comparisons.Â
His laughter quieted, but his smile stayed on as he explained about the moss flowers, âYeah, not big on being crushed, not yet,â He knelt down, poked some of the flowers around, and found one that had opened completely, and was almost beginning to go to seed, âOnce the flowers are fruit theyâre okay with being picked and having their seeds carried that way, but before that it can make it harder for them. These guys are weird, they bloom in really early spring.â He picked the flower off, with some of the stem, and pushed it along a little until the petals fell away and in its place a sat a red berry. He stood tall and handed it to the woman. âHere, you can eat this one now if you want, but they can be a little tart.â
She pulled her sleeves up and his eyes went wide. âWhoa. Those are so cool!â Heâd seen BloodHunters before, but only at a distance, never close enough to see the tattoos heâd been told about. He thought about asking if it hurt, but she probably got that all the time, and the answer was probably yes. Her description of searing green lasers got him excited, heâd never actually practiced with a Green Magician before. âYouâre right, that would be risky. Thereâs a clearing, about five minutes from here, are you good to go now? Did you want to let your Commander know where weâre headed? Wouldnât want to worry anyone.â
Yana looked at Miero struggle a little, and then laughed. "Yes, it does fit!", she said, still giggling at the faces he made, "I don't know what I would do if I didn't have infinite arrows. I was taught to get all arrows you shoot back, but ripping them out of a body is just really, really gross.", she said, and shook a little at the thought. Oh, as much as she was grossed out by gore whenever she got down from her blind rage, as happy she was that the lasers she shot burned all the flesh and arteries closed. All there was left was a neat little hole through their heart or brain, or anywhere else - and none of that sticky blood.
Listening to Miero talk about the plants, Yana tilted her head. She wasn't the brightest, she knew that very well herself, and listening to stuff she could learn something about was sort of hard, but she did try a little. Until he handed her the bald flower with a single berry in its middle. "Eat it?", Yana repeated full of doubt, her eyebrows twitching. She had only spend her first handful of years in Huntia, but it was those years that make a person. Huntia made her love meat, and rice, which is what her rather poor family had, but certainly not some random things growing on random plants. It would be rude to deny his offer though, right?
Hesitantly taking the plant, Yana plucked the berry of it and put it in her mouth. It felt smooth on her tongue, and so round it almost made her want to play with it, so she turned it around in her mouth a little, until she accidentally bit on it. Her face instantly turned into the most wicked grimace she had ever pulled. It was as if that berry was attacking her tongue, biting scratching, just generally tasting like her first impression had been. Not good. Frozen on the spot, Yana was torn between what to do - she couldn't just spit it out in front of the friendly guy, but the thought of swallowing it almost brought tears to her eyes. It had to be. She was a Knight. She could do this. The amount of saliva in her mouth was incredible, but it made whatever she just ate run down her throat smoothly.
"N-nah. Let's just go there. Please.", Yana brought herself to say. Kalita would know that Yana was coming back any second - and telling Chrysanthe? That was just nothing she really did. If she was going back now, Chrysanthe would only hen them together, preparing to find the missing children so into detail that they'd miss the mission altogether.
Another Green World || Miero & Yana
Miero laughed, loud and somewhat surprised at her question. âWhat? No, Iâm just used to seeing Greens with bows, thatâs all. Iâm a Plant Magician.â The girl had charmed him immediately though, with her wide eyes and energetic attitude. He had a soft spot for people like him, who didnât hesitate to believe the unbelievable. Some people (Reed) called it gullibility, but Miero always liked to think that the world could be wonderful and mysterious, and he liked others who felt that way too.
The woman â Yana â only made him hesitate for a second before clasping her hand. He hadnât been entirely sure that sheâd remember to dissolve the green magic light in her palm, which (he knew from schoolyard pranks) would burn like stinging nettle at its weakest, or a red hot iron at its worst. But she didnât seem like a cruel prankster, and he was reassured when the light vanished before they shook.
"No, not a halfling. Iâm actually⌠old-school elfish," he admitted, tactfully avoiding the subject of royal lineage for the time being. It was rare to see Elves with his coloration, but that was because the Yearto ancestors had come from a different region than many of the other elfish lines, and had a tendency to marry within their social and regional class, so the variation had stayed relatively static over the centuries.
He had to barely conceal a grin at her warning to him, but it wasnât laughter at her expense at all, just sheer joy at the challenge. âAwesome, Iâm really really good too. I wonât hold back, though, so youâre going to have to do your best. Iâm not going to just let you win, thereâs no fun in that,â he winked. âHow about this, the winner has to show the loser their best techniques and tricks. That way, even when you beat me senseless, Iâll learn something from it.â He really did mean it.
"Oh, are there so many?", Yana replied, wondering a bit. She didn't really know any other Green Magicians, though that probably was because she really didn't know that many other people. Kalita was too much fun and perfection to concentrate on, and it wasn't like she really needed other friends. Though talking to this guy, Miero, was fun. "A plant magician... so that's why you told me not to step on the flowers.", the girl repeated to herself. To her, it made perfect sense that he would be able to feel through the plants, though she had no idea if that was actually something plant magicians could do, or not do.
When Miero mentioned being 'old-school' elfish, Yana was instantly impressed. Ancient elves came to her mind, with an appearance that was even older than light hair, and she found it really cool. If she had payed more attention in school, would she have learned about that? "Old-school elfish sounds amazing. Like from some sort of fantasy novel. I'm a BloodHunter, which you can probably see from this tattoo", she said, wrapping up her left sleeve to show one, then the other sleeve, "this one, two on my legs and one on my chest." Showing off her tattoos was something she hardly did, but they were a BloodHunter's pride, after all. Even if she only had five, because her family didn't have much money.
Snatching her bow from her back, Yana stopped smiling, and thought for a second. If he was really, really good, and there was a possibility of losing, she really wouldn't be... in the mood to learn something on top of it, but the guy was just too funny. She liked how he implied her beating him, and Yana didn't really treasure her "secret" techniques, so it would probably be fair either way. "Alright, sounds fair, I think. But we both have long bows... should we go into the forest and find somewhere where we have enough space?", Yana said, "My arrows don't stick, they sear through, which creates a little risk for the camp here."
