Social media assets to promote Nail Tech:Portrait of an Artist, a documentary by Dr. Jillian Hernandez—an intersectional feminist scholar whose work explores Latinx feminine embodiment across gender and class lines. This project was especially meaningful to me as a first-generation, bilingual Cuban child of immigrants and Miami native deeply connected to the Chonga aesthetic and its expressive, defiant power. The graphics incorporate elements of Y2K and modern day nail design, and the cursive font emulates nameplate necklaces so popular in Chonga/Chola aesthetics. The film has been selected for the 2026 Miami Film Festival and the 2026 Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival.
