“Love yourself…” Heisuke mused softly, taking in each word with great care. He nearly jumped at the mentioned of a ‘girlfriend’ and shook his head in earnest reply. “I-It’s not like that!! I just…” slowly cutting himself off, his words caught in his throat. Could he really tell Sanosuke about his current feelings about the Shinsengumi, his family? About his feelings for his friends, for Sanosuke himself? Remembering the answer to Itou’s constant question, Heisuke felt his chest tighten. “What if…you choose to leave the things or the person you love too much behind? What happens then..?” the youngest captain thought aloud, as he pulled his haori closer to keep out the night’s cold chill.

sorry i’ve been absent. it’s getting to the season of final projects and edTPA. and i’ve been doing a lot more original fiction writing than i have in the past.. uh, decade. so if anyone wants to hear my ramble about animal people and/or read my shitty fiction hmu.

Heisuke thought the question was quite childish, considering his age and inexperience, but it had been bothering him quite a bit. Feeling the affectionate ruffle of his hair, a soft laugh escaped him before feeling the firmness of the squeeze on his shoulder. “Lose yourself?“ He thought aloud, unsure if he was understanding his friend’s advice correctly. Perhaps he was just tired, but that feeling had been nagging at him since his return from Edo. Ever since the incident with Sannan, the youngest captain felt a strain on his relationship with everyone in the Shinsengumi, especially after Itou’s harsh words toward the deputy colonel. "So, can that love be for something as a whole too?” The words reflected his restlessness, the occasional sleepless nights on wondering what he could have done differently with the Shinsengumi.

howmany times had he seen the life fading out of the eyes of man? boththose that would die and those that saw death in this way for thefirsttime. oh,how tumultuous times were, many saw their parents or loved ones die;and it was not competently unheard of for strangers to be cut down onthe street before the eyes of bypassers, no.perhaps the first time the lips of the man would downturn and hewould feel pity. but as time transpired, he looked away, cut his eyesaway. ne could call him jadedand one could even call him cold,when it come to these particular instances, but unfortunately therecruits merely needed to harden themselves against it.
