The Eternal Quest for someone Grumpier than her own Lusus
Valoki laughed it off. It wasn’t a particularly nice laugh. “Whatever.” They were pretty much at the edge of the swamp now, and he plonked Regali on the ground with the minimum effort required not to hurt her.
"Job done."
"Thanks," Orseth gave a wave to Valoki, although the greenblood was already determined to get back into the swampland. He'd really wanted nothing to do with this - Orseth felt bad about dragging him into it. He'd make it up to him later. For now though, he looked back to Regali.
"Hey," she jolted as he spoke, caught off-guard by the soft tone he used. He sighed internally, she was way too messed up right now. He'd need to deal with her as well. But not on the edge of a swamp when the night was approaching done. That was a bad idea. "Get to ground over that way," he indicated a direction, "Some good lakes for not burning in the sun there, I've used them myself. The nightmares suck but it beats roasting."
She nodded absently, wondering about what to say. She wasn't given a chance however, he simply tried and failed to reach up and pat her shoulder so instead settled for tapping an elbow. "Look, just be careful. We'll hang out later, and I'll help you, but not now, alright?"
She nodded again, seeming slightly more relieved. Orseth grinned back at her and finally earned a faint smile. Now that was better, Regali without her calm smile wasn't really Regali to him. She set off in the direction indicated, and he returned into the swamps to go calm Valoki down.
Where did he, the thrill-seeking risk-taker, get off being so mature? God damn tragedy for his rep. He'd have to fight a cholebear later or something. That'd be fun.
