I definitely don’t always view Supernatural through a shippy lens. I love the idea of two traumatized brothers who grew into and around each other in a tangled mess because their reality was so hard to process. The fact that there is a real honest innocence to their relationship because they’re so wrecked by what happened to them that they are doomed to never truly ‘grow up’ and connect to other human beings in a way that’s as meaningful to them as their connection. The exploration of a relationship in fiction that is actually deeply provocative because it just brushes against social/cultural taboos without ever actually going there but while it does what it does, it’s asking you these what if’s, and challenging your understanding of the rigidity of what ‘roles’ people ‘should’ play to each other in order to be healthy.

I just like the idea [in fiction] of two people being able to occupy so many roles in each other’s lives so completely- and what that relationship would look like. How the claustrophobic, toxic, identity melting angst is followed by a chaser of ‘the greatest most all consuming soul burning love of all time, actually’.
