i think sam drinking demon blood was kinda like how some victims of csa/sa may have a "promiscuous" lifestyle to sorta "rewrite" their trauma in a way they can cope with. sam was seeking a resolution to azazel's violation by reliving the initial trauma in a way that made him feel powerful or as if he were exerting agency. this, to me, makes ruby that much more insidious a villain

after sam got his memories of hell back he should’ve had intense insomnia. he should’ve been unable to fall asleep despite being desperately exhausted. it should’ve wrecked him so much that dean saw the deep bruised circles under his bloodshot eyes and muttered, “jesus sammy you look awful”.

and after watching him toss on top of the sheets for hours, dean should’ve stood up suddenly and dragged sammy up, pulling him into the passenger seat of the impala, and just drove for hours. until finally, finally, sam’s fits and twitches stopped, and his blinking slowed. dean should’ve drove until sammy’s head tilted against the window and his shoulders slumped, eyes finally fluttering closed. and dean should’ve drove aimlessly until the sun peeked over the horizon the next morning, sammy still passed out in the passenger seat.

he should’ve looked over at sam and remembered years ago, when sammy was little and he fussed, tossing and turning hours into the night in their dingy motel rooms, when dad was too exhausted and too drunk to deal with it, so even though he was nowhere near old enough to drive, dean would slip the keys out of dad’s pocket and carry sammy out to the impala just to drive until the road finally lulled him to sleep
