I ended up playing nearly 90mins in a gym at Pelican Bay Supermax's B-Yard. This picture is from the second day when they asked me to come back for A-Yard. I have a lot to think about after Pelican Bay. I have to consider how proud I was of my wife (@dmcmorran) leading these men to get the most out of Defy Ventures. I have to consider how encouraged I was to see the 60 executive volunteers there to help these men create their futures. And still the hardest part, I have to wrap my head around how close I felt to the EITs. You only see some of them above. In 2 days I heard many of their stories. I learned many of their worst mistakes, but I saw hope in their eyes when they spoke of the future. I saw men brave enough to be vulnerable. They hold themselves accountable for the past, but hold their heads UP. They look you in the eyes. (at Pelican Bay State Prison)

Getting to hear people's stories is one of the best parts of playing music. Thanks @georgiastateuniversity and @jamietworkowski for bringing me out. Thanks to all of you who shared some time with me after. (at Georgia State University)

About to throw my Gibson in the car and drive down to Birmingham. Looking forward to a few of my favorite songs and a lot of conversation. We're all effected by the things we won't talk about. Sure there's "over-sharing" but that's only to do with who you're sharing with. I hope everyone of us reading this realizes we are all a conversation away from shaking the past off our backs; we're all on this big spinning rock together. We're all trying to face the future.
