Tam for me prioritizes convenience over all else. he has his moments of vanity (and he recognizes the political importance of dressing up) but most of the time his strategy is to grab the least uncomfortable looking thing in his closet that’s still appropriate enough for the occasion. He's a naturally big and active guy; most of his clothes need to be tailored or they'll feel restrictive. he also gets his clothes dirty or ripped up all the damned time. Those living in the manor swear most of the court's yearly funds go towards seamstresses (this is a joke).

ofc his actual favorite outfit is his birthday suit (not a joke; this might have to do with being a werewolf)

oh dear god, i haven't been following many tamlin fics recently i'm afraid, so i'm really out of the loop. but you can never go wrong with @eatsbooks and renascence!

That makes so much sense. Do you think the information being retrieved by Hybern's daemati makes it different because that's something Tamlin has no control over and also something Rhys could have taught him but chose not to, for good reason, but it backfired?

oooh interesting theory! again, i think it makes a difference to rhys logically, but not emotionally. like it doesn't matter if it's tamlin's fault that they found out or not, what matters is that tamlin is the conduit for information that gets rhysand's family killed. it would be different if tamlin’s father figured it out on his own and went and killed rhys's family and tamlin only found out after the fact, but the fact that the information comes from tamlin, no matter which way, is what breaks rhys. it makes it impossible to separate him from what happened.

now i think if it was a daemati who broke into tamlin's mind (((i have my own theories pls pls ask me about them))) rhys would still hate tamlin for being too weak to fight back but he'd feel more guilty for 1. feeling that way and 2. not preventing it by teaching tamlin how to fight a daemati. he'd hate the daemati who did it, he'd hate tamlin, and he'd hate himself - though not as much as in this timeline where he believes tamlin intentionally betrayed him

#because he trusted tamlin #and that is his failure and his cross to bear for the rest of his life #his mother's and sister's blood is on tamlin's hands but it is also on his own because he should have known better

Do you think Rhysand's response would have been different if Tamlin were tortured for that information, or leaked it out of foolishness somehow or did give it away and then immediately sent that info to Rhys but it didn't reach on time?

ooooh this is really interesting. ultimately no, i don't think so. maybe he'd hate him a smidgen less but at the end of the day he'd still hate him, though not for assumed cruelty but instead weakness leading to betrayal. even if tamlin had actively tried to save rhys's mother and sister, as long as he is involved in their death and they die but he survives, his relationship with rhysand must end because there is no way for him to look at his friend without being reminded of their loss.

#rhys would also not forgive tamlin for breaking under torture because he himself hasn't (yet)#their dynamic rises and falls with their variations of 'i didn't mean to/i had to/i wanted to/they made me' vs 'you still did it though'#tamlin would have the same reaction if he found out rhys was forced by amarantha #they know each other very well so they take the choices they each make very seriously #ty for asking!
