may be a hot take but i think the fact minors can access 18+ content by just clicking a button that says 'yes im totally over 18 trust me' is like. totally fine tbh. its a non-issue. i dont care if curious teenagers are looking at porn. they've been doing that for as long as porn has existed. id rather teens explore their sexuality through images on the internet than rush into real life experiences when they're not ready for it yknow. the UK is trying to put stricter age verification in place (which in turn is becoming an online privacy nightmare) and like. for what. who is it helping. why is this a problem.

People really need to start realizing that the rhetoric of 'protecting' kids has never, and will never, actually be in the best interests of kids. It's always going to be in the interests of adults and protecting their social and cultural insecurities. There is no need for protection from facts of bodily function, from the knowledge of sexuality. People have been discovering themselves as kids for essentially all time, and that's normal.

Suggesting otherwise is in of itself absurd, and will inevitably be used as an excuse to demonize other sexual/gender minorities (simply look at 'trans groomer' panics in the modern day.)

And in the context of the online world, it's an excuse to strip away privacy. There's no reason for any website or service to demand personal information from you that isn't strictly necessary for its function and openly disclosed - though we don't live in a world where this is common practice.
