Rome, Italy: Morning of Uccello’s death.
He groaned, knocking over the knife that had been on the bed. Y/N glanced at his exposed back, his skin was beautiful. Glowing in the morning sun, she could count the moles on his face; smell the cologne he had put on the night prior. Now the scent was mixed with chlorine and sweat.
Chanyeol opened his eyes, an arm wrapping around her waist pulling her closer. He nuzzled himself into the crook of her neck. Counting his breaths Y/N smiled, her fingers intertwining with the ripped fabric that was once his sweater.
After he had kissed her in the pool they hurriedly ran back to the private suite and towards her room, kissing each other violently two bodies tangled. Never separating. Y/N didn’t have time or want to make the time to get him naked, she had gotten desperate. Grabbing one of the many knives they had been given to kill Uccello with, she started tearing at his sweater.
Dragging the blade wherever the seams of his clothes seemed weakest, it was such a pleasant sound. Hearing the fabric rip, seeing a bit more of Chanyeol with each tear.
Y/N had muttered a sorry somewhere in between; she had gotten too excited… slightly cutting the side of his torso. He didn’t mind, in fact he seemed to have liked it because Y/N hadn’t been given the chance to finish off his sweater.
She was pushed down onto the bed, Chanyeol fallen on top of her, marking her body almost everywhere that could be covered with regular clothes; making her a work of art that was meant for only him.
Chanyeol made her his that night, more than Y/N already wanted to admit that she was. They hadn’t even had time to dry up; both of them wet and cold slowly warmed each other up with every movement Chanyeol led their bodies.
It was glorious, all she wanted.
Y/N backed away from him, standing up. It was early and luckily for them Sehun hadn’t come back. That, or he knew what was happening and didn’t plan to interrupt. Chanyeol propped his elbow onto the bed shaking his hair, it was unfair to her that he looked so amazing even after last night’s events. If anything he looked more energized than before, he glowed brighter than before.
“Wish we could stay like this forever” she admitted a little embarrassed. Today was the day they were going to kill Uccello she didn’t know what lay ahead except his death. No matter what they had to kill him.
He glanced at her, not saying anything except
“My stray is so destructive, I liked this sweater you know…”
Y/N laughed, his sentence had been muffled towards the end as he faced the pillow to lie down again.
He wanted to stay like this too…
Memories she couldn’t hold back always came to her in the worst moments. In times that she didn’t need reminders; times where she needed to focus. Y/N blinked a couple times her eyes adjusting to the dark, Yongma land was as creepy as she expected it to be. An abandoned amusement park that looked like zombies were about to crawl out at any moment… it wasn’t exactly her ideal Friday night.
The sound of grovel moving beneath their feet announced their presence as they walked towards the center of the park.
“What did the rest of the riddle say?” Y/N didn’t know why she was whispering, she just felt like it was necessary. From what she could tell they were all alone, even an abandoned amusement park let entry to tourists, but they snuck in after hours. Not wanting any company.
Sehun stopped walking and placed his hands on his waist, looking around “I’m not sure…something about Elvis, or was it Michael Jackson” He pursed his lips and looked up at the sky, trying to remember. Y/N looked around, the place looked empty enough to be safe, even if it wasn’t she had her gun, and she knew Sehun had his.
“Why don’t we separate and look for something related to those two?”
He simply shrugged, walking away without verbally agreeing. Y/N sighed running towards the opposite side Sehun had gone, he should’ve kept the riddle. Y/N didn’t even know where to begin to look, didn’t know what she needed to look for. All she knew was that whoever attacked her wanted her to get the message to come, to be here. That much she felt sure of.
Y/N jumped at the sound of metal clanging, it was coming from a tall row of trees. She ran, trying not to fall, it was too dark to be running around. Going past the lines of trees she was met with an old rollercoaster. It was rusted and circular, the center painted to be a large compass. It was a spinning type of ride. Above it laid a mural of famous faces.
“So it was Michael Jackson” Y/N muttered walking towards it. Her hand touched the cold metal bars, while she stepped up the ramp and on the ride itself.
Y/N did the only thing that seemed normal, sit down. down. Picking a seat she watched the dark scenery in front of her, waiting… Was she going to get attacked again? Should she prepare and get her gun out? Should she call Sehun and have him come? A million questions popped into her head, the wind shifting directions blowing towards her.
The ride gave a small creak and spun slightly with her inside it,
It came from below her, Y/N jumped up, taking out her gun.
“It’s not a good idea to scare me, I’ll shoot you” she announced loudly. In the distance she heard the sound of more metal clanging and…music. Carnival music, the type Y/N would be hearing if the place was still up and running.
The sound of footsteps shuffling had her attention turning away from the music and towards the end of the ride. Someone was running out from underneath the white floorboards that held the ride up.
Y/N jumped over the ramp, sprinting after them and hoping Sehun was nearby. She didn’t want to lose them, but there was no way in hell Y/N wanted a repeat of earlier.
“Wait!” she called out again, the person laughed. Laughed as maniacally as the last guy in her apartment. That’s when Y/N knew…It was a trap, and she had been stupid enough to fall for it. Y/N didn’t even have time to yell as someone came running towards her from the side, knocking her on the ground.
This time they didn’t wait to stab her, a man just like the last dressed in a black mask with wild eyes took a hold of her throat. Choking her, she gasped as the passage to any fresh air was blocked out. Her eyes feeling like they were being pushed out from the inside. Y/N tried to scream but nothing came out.
That word again, exactly like the man she had killed, he kept repeating it. A memory flashed across her mind suddenly, a pained Chanyeol as he snatched a sniper gun away from her his face flushed and irritated
“If you ever get caught… do that”
That! Y/N smiled back at the man, kneeing him hard in the groin. Sweet blissful oxygen filled her lungs as he let go, she didn’t have time to waste. Y/N swung her fist at his face making him fall. Quickly standing up Y/N left, leaving him gasping for air.
She needed to find Sehun, who knew how many more of them there were waiting for her? She couldn’t do this alone. Y/N ran back the way she came from, carnival music getting louder the closer she got. It was the merry-go-round it was lit up and spinning, no one in sight as it moved slowly and eerily due to the bad conditions.
They were still after her, she wasn’t free yet. Y/N jumped on top of the carousel hiding in a small gold tinted carriage.
“We made a deal.” Kyungsoo eyebrows furrowed as he stared at the two men they had been planning to meet.
They had been talking inside a red and white castle for some time now. The place designed for kids to come in and role-play or go to the high watchtowers that overlooked the amusement park to take in the scenery better.
Mold grew from the peeled off carpet in the corners, while graffiti tainted the once cream colored walls. Some windows were still miraculously in one piece while others had holes in them from rocks that had been thrown inside.
“Yes well, then we found out you had him” Donggeun one of the traders jutted his chin towards Chanyeol, chewing his gum loudly. Chanyeol ignored him, looking at the unmoving bloody forms that were once his bodyguard and driver.
“Namgi won’t approve of this” Kyungsoo spoke in a low cautious voice.
“Say Hwanso how much is Namgi paying us for the drugs?” he spit out his gum while his partner came out from the dark, followed by more men.
“Couple thousand each. why?”
He pointed at Chanyeol stupidly, his motions were unbalanced -drunk like. Chanyeol was beginning to question Namgi’s intelligence for these sort of traits. It seemed strange that such an elite and dangerous business man would work with idiots like these.
This drug… even though Namgi hadn’t officially said it, it was technically Chanyeol’s first big project. He had been there for the naming of the drug, and alongside Kyungsoo was in charge of every single plan that followed after. Plans of importing to Korea to which customers and buyers they had waiting for the distribution.
This drug was dangerous, and men like Namgi loved to use it to their advantage. So it wasn’t surprising that all the customers Namgi had waiting for it were elitist like himself.
“He’s the most wanted man in the entire country! Actually… make that the world, how much do you think we can get for turning him in?”
Chanyeol took a step back watching as their men surrounded them.
“Don’t fight back” Kyungsoo muttered beside him. Chanyeol turned to glare at him, never in his life had he ever thought of not fighting back. He wasn’t one to lose. He never did lose.
“Ya!” Chanyeol spoke loudly letting everyone hear him “I’m going to kill them, who said anything about fighting?” He got his stance ready, analyzing each man. It should be easy enough… two seemed fast, yet weak in combat skill, while the drug smugglers looked like their only form of defense was pointing a gun at someone. No skill in fighting whatsoever.
And that’s exactly what one of them did; Chanyeol watched as the man named Hwanso took out his gun shooting it at one of the already broken windows of the small castle they were inside of.
“I don’t have time for this, don’t be stupid you’re surrounded and this room is too small for you to be able to fight and avoid being shot” he spoke calmly and with experience. Far more experience than Chanyeol had and it made him angry. This wasn’t a comfortable setting for him, he wasn’t a Hitman anymore he didn’t have the upper hand or the element of surprise. This was different.
“He’s right” Kyungsoo spoke with the same cool tone as Hwanso. Chanyeol turned to look at him in disbelief but immediately realized Kyungsoo wasn’t exactly thrilled about the situation either. Though his voice and posture were calm,, his glance wasn’t. Kyungsoo glared at both men, hatred reflecting off his wide do-like eyes.
He wanted to live… it didn’t shock Chanyeol, everyone wants to live. What shocked him was that he cared about living too…
There was a time where he would’ve sneered at that warning and gave it his all or nothing. If he died well- that’s the price that came with getting himself in situations like these. He had always been prepared for it , but now…it was almost as if he was scared to die.
Chanyeol couldn’t look death in the eye and laugh anymore. It bothered him, what had changed so much? Here he was surrendering and hurting his pride to live safely…. was it because of…?
It took everything inside him not to continue that thought, he looked at the mud tracked carpet, clenching his jaw. He wanted to fight he wanted to kill and… he couldn’t. Let’s live for now he told himself.
“Oh we can kill him” Hwanso waved at Kyungsoo while they tied Chanyeol’s hands with a black zip tie.
They grabbed Kyungsoo by the shoulders forcing him to go down on his knees. Hwanso took out a knife walking over to him; he just kept on glaring.
“Wait!” Chanyeol shoved the man tying his hands out of the way walking towards the two. “Have you two heard of the rumors of Namgi’s son?”
“Chanyeol…” Kyungsoo looked at him with a warning, Chanyeol ignored him and continued “I’m sure you have, anyone who knows Namgi probably has. The son who is a rumored monster that kills anytime and Namgi’s most trusted man.”
“Yeah. So?” Hwanso was starting to look impatient which made him Chanyeol slightly happy.
“So you idiot-“ Chanyeol stopped as a gun was pointed in his direction as a result for insulting him. He coughed awkwardly before continuing
“so…that’s literally who you’re about to kill right now”
They all turned to look at Kyungsoo who had switched his death stare towards Chanyeol. “Namgis little rumored orphan is this guy?” Hwanso spoke in disbelief, he laughed shaking his head “so we have his orphan and his dog this must be our lucky day!”
The rest of them laughed in agreement, Chanyeol frowned… why did he just save Kyungsoo? He was a pain in the ass…He was doing too many things that were out of character for him.
“AISH! It’s all her fault!” Chanyeol suddenly yelled annoyed and not realizing this wasn’t exactly the time to be mad at Y/N. Yet he couldn’t help it, even when she wasn’t around she managed to get under his skin. He should have never called her his partner now it made things harder to stop thinking about her…made him feel almost homesick. If he even had a home.
They all turned to look at him like he was crazy. “Who’s fault?” Hwanso asked.
“Leave him, he’s crazy” Kyungsoo stood up letting them tie his hands behind his back. Chanyeol nodded agreeing with Kyungsoo, he was crazy. Completely insane. All in one night he had managed to save someone he wouldn’t normally save, let himself be captured and…start fearing the possibility of his own death. Chanyeol didn’t know he was anymore none of it made sense.
“Right! the news was calling him the real life joker” Hwanso laughed loudly, stepping towards Chanyeol he smiled proudly “not so tough now are you?”
Chanyeol looked down at him, a part of him wanting to laugh at the slight height difference.
“Say, didn’t they say he had a Harley Quinn or something?” Donggeun grinned from the back still looking drunk and dazed.
“Did he? Where is she now?” Hwanso pressed “your little whore find someone else to fuck?”
He head-butted him without thinking about it, the action coming to Chanyeol naturally; his forehead connecting with the bridge of Hwanso’s nose. Hwanso cursed, stepping back whole blood seeped out of his nostrils. Chanyeol didn’t even get to enjoy the moment, Donggeun ran up to him and punched him.
“Put these idiots in different rooms!” Hwanso yelled walking out.
************
Y/N followed the sound of the gunshot towards a red and White Castle replica. It was surprisingly large enough for even adults to enter.
There she waited outside trying to see if anyone would come out. Or, another trap and they thought Y/N would be stupid enough to fall for it twice. After a couple minutes of nothing happening. She decided it was better to check it out. Even if it was a trap this time, Y/N was prepared for anything.
Walking inside, the wind blew against the old wooden structure creating sounds she’d hear in horror movies. The place was dark, and larger than expected from the inside. Two different directions on each side of her that led to watchtowers. One extra passage in front of her that led to the room above.
Y/N turned to the right, walking quietly and holding her breath as much as she could. The wind picked up and a part of her wondered how well this old castle would hold up in a storm. Probably not well…
“You took the drugs didn’t you?”
The voice came from the watchtower, Y/N hid behind an old large treasure chest that looked like it once had medieval themed costumes that children could use to play. There were two men talking, one tied up to a chair with thick black rimmed glasses and a short haircut, the other an older male with ash brown hair and worn out cut off jeans.
“Didn’t think you’d be stupid enough to take those drugs… considering you were only supposed to import them”
“Shut up!” The man yelled at him, his arms limp and his footing awkward. He looked more drunk than drugged to Y/N.
“How does it feel? I’ve heard different stories about the drugs effects” the man in the chair pondered, Y/N could tell he wasn’t expecting the other to cooperate and answer his questions. The other said something, his words unintelligible and slurred as he walked out of the small watch tower.
Y/N slipped from hiding, walking towards the guy the in the chair; her gun pointed at him. He looked at her surprised his dark eyes widened while he looked around for something that wasn’t there.
“The men outside that were trying to kill me, do you know who they are?”
He smiled softly at her, looking like he just ran into an old friend he hadn’t seen in a long time. “You’re both so close” he muttered amazed.
“Who are they?!” She asked again with a stronger tone.
“He saved me so I guess I owe him one now… I’m Kyungsoo I’m sure we’ll see each other again-” his eyes promptly landed on the exit “-but right now you should leave, that guy is going to come back and they have more men out there”
Y/N lowered her gun, confused. Something about this guy made her trust him. He wasn’t the one sending attacks towards her, she decided that quickly.
Rain started to fall outside the castle as the strike of lightning lit up the watchtower. Sehun was probably waiting for her and whatever was happening here…didn’t involve them.
She sighed putting the gun in her back pocket. This was probably stupid of her, but it felt like the right thing. Y/N hurriedly went behind Kyungsoo and took out the small blade she kept in her socks. Something she had learned from Chanyeol. With fluid motions, she sliced the zip tie that had been used to restrain him.
“You leave too” Y/N said simply backing away, she felt like she could trust him but that didn’t mean she could be wrong. He was still a stranger. He stood up rubbing his wrists.
“I can’t. I have to save someone”
“then go save them” Y/N shrugged, Kyungsoo looked at her before sighing “that’s right, this isn’t the time for…” he trailed off, leaving the watchtower without saying more.
Y/N left the castle, going out into the rain, the carousel was still playing its melody as it spun around.
“Y/N!” Sehun yelled jogging towards her, he had blood all over him. “It’s not my blood” he explained before she could ask “-I got attacked back there and killed him, plus two others that seemed to have already seen you. I turned this thing on” he pointed at the ride “to distract anyone else that could be waiting to attack.”
She nodded quickly trying to end the conversation, there were other matters that needed to be talked about “Sehun we need to get out of here, something else is going on that isn’t related to us”
He was right, she didn’t know. Y/N just assumed. She looked up at the castle, dead trees and dark rain clouds painting an eerie scenery behind it. The watchtower Kyungsoo had been in was dark and empty from what she could tell.
The other… someone was staring at her, looking down at both of them. The figure looked tall but she couldn’t see due to the dark, the rain didn’t help either. A stroke of lightning lit up the night sky and for a second she was able to see more details of the shadowed figure. Her heart dropped and her knees shook.
