According to exclusive information from LiFO, on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 March, the top director shot scenes starring Lupita Nyong'o. Despite reports that the Oscar winning actress (Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for her performance in the film "12 Years a Slave") would take on the role of the goddess Athena, Lupita Nyong'o plays Clytemnestra, wife of Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and an emblematic figure of Greek mythology.
For the role of Agamemnon, Nolan chose his colleague, director, editor, and actor, Benny Safdie. On Monday and Tuesday, Nyong'o and Nolan's crew arrived at Acrocorinth and the Castle of Methoni. Among the scenes filmed in these locations, one shows the tragic heroine with four of her followers enjoying the warm welcome of the crowd with "many rose petals."
In another scene, along with the actresses playing her followers, Lupita Nyong’o participates in washing Agamemnon in a bath. For Agamemnon’s death, Nolan is reportedly adopting a version close to that of Aeschylus with the female protagonist, Clytemnestra, who kills her husband in revenge, with a knife.
The production’s costume team chose light costumes in soft shades of purple for Clytemnestra, according to sources who spoke to LiFO and were present at the shooting.
