The fact of the matter is that youtube is a garbage place to make money, especially if you can’t release videos at a fast pace. Gamers, daily vloggers, and other content that’s easy to make quickly? It’s still somewhat sustainable….somewhat. But long scripted content, music videos, animation, or anything that can’t be released quickly on a regular basis? It’s not a sustainable source of revenue. That’s why so many of these creators also stream on twitch, have membership programs, or, yes, patreons. So can we dstroy the idea that a youtuber with more than 1 million subscribers doesn’t “need” a patreon and that it’s just a grubby, underhanded attempt to make more money? Especially when Youtube is becoming more of a cesspool of demonitization and poor creator support. AND when said channel is run by a team of several people who all have bills to pay and mouths to feed.
All the main content is still free. Content isn’t going behind a paywall. But content creators need to eat, and pay bills, and pay staff, and rent office space, and they ask those of us who are able if we could perhaps contribute to that end a bit. And as a thank you for that generosity, patrons get a few extra perks. A few extra minutes of video. One extra livestream. Five minutes of bloopers. The occasional exclusive merch content. I know it’s frustrating to not be able to afford the things you want, but guess what…that’s just as much a part of life as having bills to pay and mouths to feed is. It’s something we all have to learn to live with at some point or another. But blaming other people who need to eat for our inability to dine on the finest desserts is….just a tad juvenile, don’t you think?

You’re allowed to be excited about the little things. You’re allowed to be goofy. You’re allowed to be dorky about your favorite tv show, to make blanket forts, to enjoy cheesy movies, even just to sleep with stuffed animals. You’re allowed to do any of the things that make life a little more bearable. It’s fine, ok?
Hey guys!
