one shot : part two // lee heeseung
summary: heeseung is seoul national university's star basketball player and the boy of every girls dreams... all except for y/n. the school's yearbook photographer had never been fond of the school's so called "hot shot." so when she's forced to photograph the most important game of the year she's less than thrilled. he will be there, and that's a very big problem when you're actively avoiding the guy. after everything comes crashing down (literally) will he finally have a chance to redeem himself?
genre: athlete!heeseung x photographer!reader, sports romance, college romance, light angst, slow burn, enemies to ?? (leehan, jake, & ni-ki are mentioned)
warnings: intended lowercase, mentions of mental hospital, skinship, alcohol, college party, kissing, slight angst? (let me know if I missed anything)
a/n: get ready because part 2 is a lot longer than the first part :3 hopefully the wait was worth it. we worked really hard on this one, enjoy !! <3
a few hours had passed since heeseung invited y/n to his party, and she was seriously considering checking herself into a mental hospital.
the scene replayed in her mind…
“… yeah, sure, okay… i’ll go.”
what was she thinking?! she couldn’t believe that she’d agreed to go to heeseung’s party, and yet she found herself making her way to the boys dorms.
y/n didn’t even like the guy, yet every worst case scenario forced its way into her mind consuming all her thoughts. she’d never been to a college party before, making every step unfamiliar.
the faint smell of cologne and muffled laughter grew closer as her journey came to an end. her arms instinctively wrapping around her torso, as if to anchor herself.
y/n silently prayed that the outfit she chose fit the occasion; a burgundy top that hung off of her shoulders, baggy jeans, and silver jewellery adorning her skin.
the music gently pumping from inside the dorm made her pause in her tracks. deep breaths. before reaching for the handle, she noticed one of heeseung’s teammates leaning against the wall.
his head down, a few strands of hair falling over his face as he endorsed himself in his phone. feeling her stare, he glanced up meeting her gaze.
“oh, hey leehan, I didn’t mean to interrupt.” y/n awkwardly scanned the hall, a light flush painting her cheeks. small talk wasn’t exactly something that came easy to her. not like the point and shoot of her camera.
“hey y/n!” a warm smile spread across his face, “heeseung mentioned inviting you but I didn’t think you’d actually show.”
“I didn’t exactly take you as the party type either” y/n shared a teasing smile back.
“i’m usually not, but according to heeseung it’s a ‘mandatory’ team activity… whatever that means.”
“there’s no shame in ditching…. right?!”
“that wouldn’t make me a very good wing man now would it?”
y/n cleared her throat, ignoring his previous statement.
“well uhm… since we both don’t want to be here, should we go in together?”
leehan nodded once, stuffing his phone in the back pocket of his jeans.
tilting his head slightly towards the door, y/n followed behind as they made there way towards the door marked 1009.

college students were littered across the dorm, indulging in snacks and good conversation. heeseung could throw a party for sure, no surprise there.
♪♫ Could be torn between two roads that I just can’t decide ♪♫
she spotted a few familiar faces as they stepped through the threshold and into the crowded room.
jake was seemingly in his element, his cheeks flushed as a neighbouring girl filled his cup with god knows what.
♪♫ Which one is leading me to hell or paradise? ♪♫
“you don’t party often, do you?” leehan shoots y/n a side glance, a subtle but curious smile on his pretty face.
y/n feels heat rushing to her face and almost sinks into her shoulders.
♪♫ Baby, I can’t hurt you, sure, but i’m the jealous type ♪♫
leehan nods with an amused smirk.
“loosen up a little and it won’t be.” he chuckles and gives her shoulders a gentle squeeze.
“isn’t that y/n?” ni-ki nudges heeseung and points over to the front door.
his head snaps in that direction. his senses amplifying at the mention of her name.
he’s a mixture of guilt and relief.
guilt from the absence of a camera that was once situated in her hands, but relief because she actually showed up.
his eyes rake over her outfit, unfamiliar with seeing her out of uniform. the burgundy shirt complimented her skin, and he couldn’t help but notice the colour matched his hair. coincidence?
“are you going to talk to her or what?”
he glances over at ni-ki with a shrug having not planned for the scenario where she actually turned up.
a guy steps behind y/n and his eyes make their way back over to her.
did they come here together? why?
they’re a giggling mess as leehan gives her shoulders a soft squeeze.
what were they talking about?
leehan locks eyes with him and waves cheerfully. a knot ties itself in his chest as he focuses on the girl next to him.
leehan leans down whispering something in her ear, then makes his way over to the boys.
heeseung glances around for y/n, but she disappears into the sea of people. his disappointment is made apparent, especially as ni-ki points it out.
“you’ll bump into her later, no stress.” he reassures him in a lower tone before leehan approaches.

y/n’s shoulders tensed at his touch with an anxious smile, so clearly out of her element. his fingers lightly pressing against her skin, anchoring her in place.
it was a friendly reminder that she wasn’t alone.
as she scanned the room she paused on a familiar sight. a noticeably tall guy with a pair of eyes you’d never miss - and the red hair.
it was strange - she didn’t feel her usual sense of animosity towards him. her expression softened taking in the black tank top that hugged his athletic figure, almost disregarding the whispering in her ear.
“you’re staring” leehan raised an eyebrow with a knowing smile.
y/n seemed to choke on her spit immediately averting her gaze as leehan made his way over to his teammates with a chuckle.
she couldn’t believe he had caught her gawking over him like one of his obsessed fangirls; something completely unlike her usual self.
the music continued to blare through the dorm as y/n weaved her way through the crowd.
it genuinely felt like navigating the sea with the way people swayed and danced to the rhythm.
she was being pushed and pulled in every direction, and the thought of never finding a way out of the crowd worried her.
y/n felt her whole body relax as she settled at the makeshift bar. all she wanted was to slump down onto one of these chairs and wait this party out.
“yo, y/n!” a familiar voice called. there was no denying that australian accent.
“jake!” her cheery expression came to a halt as she took in his state.
flushed honey skin, with his chestnut bangs hanging over his eyes. he was usually full of smiles, but whatever was in that fruit punch was amplifying this quirk of his.
“you should try this punch … it’s so good. I could chug this whole thing.”
y/n smiles wearily at the tipsy australian man and she shakes her head.
“i think i’m good on drinks tonight.”
“no, here. try some.” he gently pushes a red cup towards her.
before it could reach her, a gentle hand takes the cup off of the table. the two of them glance up to find heeseung.
looking between the two of them, his brows furrow at the sight of a clearly inebriated jake.
“she’s drinking with me, don’t worry.” heeseung smiles and giving y/n a side glance.
jake nods with a friendly smile.
“perfect… i’m sure you’ll help her loosen up!” he’s called back into the crowd and the two are left alone. the tension in the air so thick you could cut it with a knife.
“i’m drinking with you tonight?” she asks, taken aback.
“don’t be silly, I was clearly helping you.”
“and what if I wanted to drink tonight?”
heeseung’s eyes flitter to hers, furrowing his eyebrows as he reaches over to grab something on his side of the table.
cool metal is placed onto her lap, leaving y/n flinching a little at the feeling. a can of soda rests against her legs and she shoots heeseung a frustrated glance.
while the crowd was having the time of their lives, an observant ni-ki had been keeping an eye on the pair.
as if he’d been strategically waiting for the perfect moment, he yells,
“anyone down to play spin the bottle?”
y/n and heeseung make brief eye contact before immediately looking away; his face almost identical to the color of his hair.
he clears his throat, “so um, should we-“
cutting him off, she abruptly stands from her chair, “yeah uh- sure.”
the students form somewhat of a circle in the center of the dorm.
“so, who wants to go first?” ni-ki glances around and pretends not to notice a few people raising their hands and shouting “me! me!”
“no one? okay! i’ll go first.” he gently nudges heeseung and sends him a cheeky smile.
the glass bottle twirls on the wooden floor, everyone leaning forward eagerly awaiting the first victim.
slowing to a halt, the bottle lands on a girl y/n recognizes from her photography class.
her shiny black hair blanketing her shoulders as she looks around the crowd sheepishly awaiting the public humiliation ritual.
ni-ki makes his way to the uneasy girl, extending his hand with a thoughtful smile. she hesitantly accepts, standing with the confident boy.
he peers into her eyes, a look questioning if she was comfortable with the situation, the girl responding with a delicate nod.
slowly leaning in ni-ki positioned them so she wouldn’t be in the crowds direct line of sight. pressing a gentle kiss to her lips and pulling away almost immediately.
the room erupts in excitement and the pair shyly take their spots in the circle.
a few more rounds go by, and y/n was honestly glad the bottle hadn’t landed on her. she wanted to be at home more than anything, which was obvious with the way she’d continuously glance at the clock.
she watches as the second hand on the clock passes 12.
a collective gasp snaps her back into reality.
did the bottle stop spinning?
she feels eyes on her as she stares at the neck of the bottle. her eyes hesitantly move down to find out who she was kissing.
she gets up to his torso before she has to look away. she knew exactly who was wearing that black tank top.
she looks back to meet his gaze. the room was loud, but suddenly he looked painfully aware of only her.
the room naturally falls silent as they inch closer to the centre of the circle. it’s like everyone was collectively holding their breaths.
their faces resting inches apart, and nervous eyes meeting every few seconds.
“we don’t have to do this.” he whispers sincerely.
his words brush softly against her lips, causing her to shiver. his gaze was even gentler up close, pupils enlarged and lips separated. she could see the freckle on his forehead so clearly, almost breaking her poker face with how cute it looked.
his eyes rest on hers expectantly, waiting for the green light. the choice was in her hands, but how did he feel?
she lurches forward a little testing the waters. she deserved to play a little after everything.
he intakes a breath and his eyes immediately drop to her lips. there was no denying the soft pink spreading across his cheeks.
heeseung was so different from his usual sweet demeanour. he almost looked… starved.
“are we doing this..?” he whispers, his need for consent hanging in the air.
the crowd around them wait impatiently, yelling for them to kiss already. ni-ki shoots fiery glances at all of them.
y/n feels herself nodding. it was just a silly, cliché game after all.
his eyes almost light up at the sight, and he relaxes. a strand of hair is gently tucked behind her ear as they move in slowly.
their lips graze gently at first, like treading on unfamiliar ground; a ghost of a touch. y/n felt herself melting into the kiss, which made no sense.
y/n didn’t like heeseung.
as the moment went on, the kiss threatened to deepen. but this was only a game, and these feelings made no sense. she pulls away suddenly, flushed. confusion lingering in the air.
heeseung stares at her, face equally flushed. the crowd erupting with cheers, ni-ki giggling with jake on the sidelines. the pair continue to stare at one another.
it felt as though only they understood the significance of this kiss and how deep this moment truly was.
the more they looked into each others eyes, the less this felt like a mere game.
the game continues for a little while longer. y/n finds herself playing eye tag with bambi boy, who nervously looks away whenever they stare for too long.
she suddenly becomes aware of her nervous, dry throat and is in need of water. leaving the circle she makes her way to the kitchen, which was cool and quiet in comparison to the rest of the dorm room.
taking a second to catch her breath she spots leehan leaning against the counter. a playful grin spreading across his face, eyes turning crescents at the sight of her.
“that what some kiss, huh?”
her eyes widened at the comment, shooting over to slap a hand over his mouth.
“i’m not sure what you’re talking about… you must have me confused with someone else.”
her eyes darted around the room praying no one else heard the wavy-haired boy’s targeted comment.
leehan grasped her hand, prying it off his mouth, “oh I see, you’re in denial. well, my lips are sealed. scouts honor.” he salutes, y/n unamused.
“it was just an average kiss, nothing special.”
she pauses, mouth agape before regaining composure. slowly taking a few steps back, she plucked a water bottle from the cooler before slinking away.
y/n takes three steps past the threshold, open water bottle in hand when she suddenly collides into someone.
the water spills, drenching the front of their shirt.
“oh my god, i’m so sorr-“ she glances up and sees an amused heeseung. her words catch in her throat as their eyes meet for what felt like the hundredth time.
of course, it just had to be him.
“what? are you taking back your apology now knowing it’s me?”
y/n purses her lips and averting her gaze towards the front door, where other students slowly make their way out. it was getting late, perhaps that’s why she was extra clumsy right now. after all, she hadn’t had a single drink.
heeseung lowers his head slightly, moving back into her view, eyebrows raised expectantly.
“what? … no! you just… startled me.”
he laughs softly glancing down at his damp tank top. the water causing the fabric to cling to his skin more than it already had been. luckily the shirt was black. y/n didn’t think she could’ve stomached the alternative scenario.
“it’s only water, no biggie.” y/n relaxes as he shoots her a reassuring smile.
his expression quickly changes to one of playful concern, “were you planning on leaving without saying goodbye?”
y/n scoffs and looks the other way, causing him to move his head back into her view once more.
“are we on hello and goodbye terms now?” she chuckles jokingly, but there was an ounce of curiosity pulsing through her veins.
heeseung shrugs, smiling at her. The smile itself was fleeting, but the affection lingering in his eyes stayed long after.
“well… after that kiss-“ y/n stops him with a hand clasped over his mouth. it’s gently pried off with his own.
“can we not mention that to anyone?”
“everyone saw it happen.” he teases.
“heeseung, i’m serious.” his expression quickly changes and he nods. the longer she stares into his eyes, the more she could see the subtle disappointment gleaming in them.
“sure.. yeah, not a word.” he replies softly, ruffling his crimson hair.
the end of their conversation was nearing as she walked closer to the door. y/n almost makes it to the exit before a gentle hand grabs onto her wrist.
“y/n…” his voice calls gently.
nervousness was written all over him, but she loved how easy he was to read.
“why are we pretending the kiss didn’t happen?”
the silence was deafening.
the dorm room was now empty, all except for the students helping clean up. they were too endorsed in conversation about the crazy night they just had.
heeseung waits patiently, letting her wrist fall back to her side.
“heeseung… that kiss… it didn’t mean anything.” she swallows a painful lump in her throat. “we’re nothing.”
he seems expressionless for a little while, lost in thought. eyebrows furrowing, forehead creasing, hands fidgeting with the hem of his damp tank top.
“I was just curious.” he chuckles.
y/n glances at him when he does so. she’s never heard him chuckle like that before, it almost sounded… forced.
“it was just some stupid game.” she murmurs.
mustering up a smile and turning towards the doorframe, she waits for his reaction.
nothing. he’s lost in thought.
y/n slips through the door, taking that as his response. the lump in her throat beginning to hurt.
heeseung turns back to the team; leehan pursing his lips and ni-ki frowning slightly. they’d witnessed the whole scene.
bambi boy shrugs and smiles.
“it was just a silly game.”
