Ygritte didn't try to stifle her grin. She'd been just as clumsy when she started flying, but her training had begun at a much younger age.Ā āY've got th' right idea at least. If y' can fly, y' don't have t' deal with all tha' Floo Network nonsense. 'S easier."
What sort of girl didnāt want to be a lady? The only sort of girl that Sansa knew who didnāt want to be ladylike was her sister, Arya. But Arya was silly and childish, who knew what went through her head. Sansa frowned at the girl who stood before her. āI know what relaxing is.ā She rolled her eyes. āBut there is a difference between relaxing and looking sloppy.ā

I have never had an owl of my own, I would not know how to care for one,ā she explained gently, ignoring the sarcastic tone accompanying her hypothetical question and favouring answering it anyway.
Ā Ā Ā āHave I said something to offend you?ā Daenerys had not been expecting a formal greeting, but the girlās harsh sarcasm had confused her. As far as Dany knew, she and the girl were completely strangers to one another. She couldnāt have possibly said or done something that would have turned her against her so fast. Nor did she recall implying anything of an unkind nature.Ā
Ā Ā Ā At least she was making sense. Owls would be little more than morsels to a dragon. They might have been smaller and faster, but one burst of flame was enough to cook them. Ygritte had eaten owl once before, one winter when the nights were especially cold, and she did not intend to repeat the experience.
Ā Ā Ā āIsn't that hard t' raise one," she said, rising to her feet. "Only hard when y've got t' eat yours t' survive." She gave the princess a wry smile.Ā āY've done nothing t' offend me, except try t' put my people under your rule."

"By folk like you, I meant rude folk with no manners. Itās not ladylike to speak in such tone." She noticed the girlās hair was a fiery shade of red, though the resemblance stopped there. Such unruly locks, did she even brush her hair? Sansa thought, quite disgusted by the idea. And would it kill her to stand up straight? āOr to slouch, for that matter.ā
āY' think I care 'bout what's ladylike?" Sure, she liked being a girl, but Ygritte had found that, more often than not, the word ladylike was used to force her into little boxes that she had no interest in occupying. Up beyond the Wall, it didn't matter what sort of manners you had, or where your parents were from--you were judged on your talents and fortitude alone.Ā āOh, this 'ent slouching, this is just relaxing. You know what that 'tis, don't y'?"
Melisandreās eyes turn towards the girl as she speaks, and as she listens, she raises the match to her lips and gently blows to flame out. It was an odd way to word the events of the creation of the great school, and no noble born child, nor a child with some wealth, would have recited the words that Ygritte had said back to her in description of the schools creation.Ā
It makes the teacher intrigued by the events of the girl's past, and any interest Melisandre has towards a person's past often drives her towards being interested in their future, and because of this, her eyes briefly flick towards the flames on the walls in search of answers before they move back to meet the girls.
She bows her head in agreement to her words before looking around the faces of her class.
( She would have to remember to call the girl back after the class ended, to see if the Lord would give her a hint of what would later drive the girl, if they were alone in the room. )
" That is one cause, child, yes, but I fear it was more complicated than that. The battle between magical, and non-magical, persons has been a war fought since the very creation of the kingdoms, from when the first Men stepped onto our Earth, and the mans separation into those living South of The Wall, and those living North. Itās then that she pauses, and returns her attention back to the girl with hair of copper, the girl who seemed to be kissed by the lord, both in looks and in spirit. A smile twists at her lips.Ā
" Ygritte, you seem to know some on this subject; may I develop upon my earlier question with you? Do you know of what each of the founders spoke when the war ended? "
Oddly enough, the professor did not reprimand Ygritte for her unorthodox definition. This Melisandre got more and more interesting and unconventional by the minute. She watched the woman's eyes trace the candles that lined the walls, and then, odder still--watched her incline her head.
It was in no way a bow of respect or submission--more like agreement--but Ygritte could not recall a time in her life when anyone had shown her that manner of acknowledgement. It startled her further when Professor Melisandre gave her a smile.
She considered the question for a second--it was fairly easy, but though she could recall the gist of what each founder had said, she couldn't grasp the exact words.Ā āGryffindor wanted t' train th' bravest, Ravenclaw wanted th' smartest, Slytherin said th' most ambitious should get 't. And Hufflepuff thought they all should have a chance."
Ygritte shrugged her shoulders. āDon't know why y' can't be brave an' smart an' ambitious an' fair all at once, but that's what they thought."
