poor acxa, the scene with her father was especially heartbreaking ☹️ when he asked her to put the lipstick(?) on because her mothers people used it. she went from sister grieving to mother's duty to wife and then ultimately "a woman must have a good mouth on her" (I HATE HIM) the weblum at the beginning....i guess another reason as to why she was passively suicidal in tbotw was because she kept remembering his words. probably... also !!!! really cool to see how shes adopted her fathers way of idealistic thinking throughout...especially at the end 👀 i really enjoy reading your fics this was soo good !!!!! ❤️🥹

Yep, I always thought it was weird that Acxa wore lipstick as a soldier. Like, that's so... unnecessary. Thought a backstory was in order.

This was funnily enough more a meta criticism than it was a narrative analysis. I really hate it when people assign one-dimensional misogynised tropes to Acxa. Though the Acxa-Dayak parallels (https://www.tumblr.com/nartipilled/825218776345821184/youre-fucking-kidding-me-i-was-willing-to-let-the?source=share) combined with Lotor's constantly seeking out women that resemble his mother (figure) + this (https://www.tumblr.com/nartipilled/825133064282849281/freaky-coincidence-or-does-voltron-just-really?source=share) raise my eyebrows... Uh, but, she's neither a sister nor a mother nor a wife but basically what's happening in that scene is that, since womanhood is -- in a patriarchal society -- synonym to possession, she's trying to figure out what kind of person she now belongs *to*. And her father basically tells her, 'everybody. Oh, and you're racialised too.'

I did want to link it to that! I think, in general, she was having a minor crisis of faith that Keith's saving her life alleviated. I'm not sure in what vein -- likely a paradoxical one, given Acxa's weird politics... could really be as simple as 'Lotor was giving her the cold shoulder' (Acxa does try to kill herself over Lotor being a dick in s5, so). Acxa's father says a lot of bullshit a lot of the time (the amt of times I've used the phrase 'Acxa's father had always said' in my mainfic DAMNN), and she does take it to heart, but in this instance -- stealing scaultrite is not exactly murder. In fact, if she hates Weblums, it's kind of a win-win.

Her father is simultaneously playing white saviour and evoking the spectre of the 'Noble Savage' and it's really odd and confusing all around, so the only thing Acxa really gets out of it is 'Do Imperialism The Right Way'. Though, I do think that rather than consciously adopt his philosophy, Acxa just blindly parrots whatever it is he's told her. She's more of a practice than theory kind of girl.
