Just started reading Witch Hat Atelier; Professor Qifrey is very pretty 🙏

One thing I love about Witch Hat Atelier is how Kamome Shirahama mixes and matches a bunch of different art styles.

The overall style of the manga seems to be mostly inspired by illustrations from old fairy tales

(Household stories from the collection of the Bros. Grimm 1922)

But Kamome combined this Fairy Tale style with elements from many other styles, for example:

-Art Nouveau

("Zodiac" by Alphonse Mucha 1896)

("illustration for Le Morte Darthur" by Aubrey Beardsley 1893)

-Baroque

("A New Book Of Ornaments With Twelve Leaves" Matthias Lock and Henry Copland, 1752)

- Rococo

("The Apotheosis of Hercules" François Lemoyne 1736)

-Western Comic Style

The western style should come as no surprise since Kamome did work for DC Comics

There are probably a lot more art styles hidden in Witch Hat Atelier that I missed, so let me know if you spot anything else.

i feel like people really miss the point of chapter 39 a lot. like okay yeah olruggio says a lot that he does not want pupils.

but i mean the first thing you learn about the guy is that he does not ever actually mean what he says. (”i didnt make you snugstones because i care its becuause its my job ugh” okay…) shirahama-sensei has literally called him a tsundere before in her twitter replies

theres really no reason why olruggio would hesitate here, and he doesnt counter hiheart or suzies comments. after her comment here she  talks about “needing help so you dont go too far in either direction” leading to this gay ass panel

and then him reflecting on qifrey choosing to help the apprentices in the rommenau cave after he barked at him

and then of course after this chapter comes chapter 40 where he does the exact same thing again (barking at qifrey cus he cares)

i get frustrated when i see the whole olruggio doesnt want students deal, since this chapter shows us something thats like 50 times as gay and 50 times more interesting. olruggio does (or at least did) want to become an instructor, but chose to be qifreys watchful eye instead so he could support him and not leave his side… (because thats more important to him)

and instead of letting him be that support qifrey wipes his memories
