I created the poster for the National Customer Service Week presented by Gloucester City Homes and Institute of Customer Service.
A rough draft was given to me along with the info and graphics and I re-designed it using InDesign. The reason one has a photo and the other doesn't is because I felt that the photo makes the text harder to read so provided an alternative for them to decide which they'd prefer to use.
This little thing I got going on at the moment with page transitions actually began with single page websites. You know the ones where you scroll and scroll, and scroll some more to get to the footer only to back up to the header? Yes, one of them. I do still like them and I do often see some that I really catch my eye. They demonstrate that less that can be more because they often display the minimal amount of information to communicate their message. Utilising large headings, complimentary font types and effective white space helps to identify each section as well as create a clutter-free and clean design. That’s the design I tend to like.
Back to page transitions. I found an article on Codrops which explained and gave a demo of their PageTransitions.js plugin. The demo was perfect because it done exactly I was looking for, exchange a page for another with a variety of transition effects. However, a few commenters and I could not understand how to use it in our own projects (I will admit JavaScript is not my strongest suit), after searching a bit more I found ElementTransitions.js by Daniel Silver. This second JavaScript was based on the first and ultimately easier to understand.
I’d like to get to understand PageTransitions more and will be returning to it at a later date but for now ElementTranstions is doing the job.
I’m exploring twitter’s bootstrap framework in hope of discovering how to make a good responsive website. At the moment I’m incorporating the framework into a Tumblr theme so it to will be responsive. So far so good. Check it out YMXSSMob. Adjust the size of your browser window to see the different response views.
Let me begin by saying that I like ember js. I’ve used other mvc frameworks in the past with Sencha at one point being my most used; the others were backbone and spine js. Although they are all similar they are equally very different from one another.
I began using Ember by following and completing the tutorial on their guide section on their website. I don’t know whether it was the version i downloaded or something I done but ember and emeber-data was not compatible with each other so I had locate the matching pair which I eventually tracked. I found the tutorial pretty easy to follow. It taught me some of the basic concepts of the framework and how the various parts come together, the end product was a simple website to display posts using fixture data. Following the NetTuts tutorial I was able to display dynamic data using json.
Now I’m stuck and would very much appreciate the help or a point in the direction of helpful examples
A short post to say I'm no using Sublime Text 2 as my default text editor for coding. I first discovered it when watching an Ember JS tutorial and what caught my eye was how minimal the software looked yet, it was being used by the man in the tutorial to code his application. This made me think of two things a. If he is using it then many others must use it too and b. There must be more to what meets the eye. After downloading the portable version to run off my USB i opened it and noticed how fast it was and again how minimal the UI is. Further researching, I learned about how much Sublime Text can be customized and with the help of a few blog post; what plugins I should add to make it better than i already is.
I'm not saying you must download it but if you do decide to I'm positive you will not be disappointed.
(the most current is version 2, 3 is still in beta [21-05-13])
I finally released the tumblr theme I started in summer break lol. Well, here is version 1.0 at least. Some bugs here and there and more improvements and features are coming up but for now you can install it and use it on your Tumblr blog. I’m just really glad it’s finally out there for people to use :D Here’s just a short description of what it is:
“AppBlog is your script or app’s own personal blog. Setup in seconds, customize to your preference, write your first post and your up & running in minutes!”
“Write more, help others more, be confident that you know more than you think because I guarantee there will be people who can learn from your experiences and knowledge. I bet you know more than you think.”

Let’s assess the situation. WordPress is an extremely popular, flexible, easy to use and open-source blogging and CMS system. More and more mobile devices are flooding the market every day, changing the way people use the Internet. And the need is growing for more beautifully designed and coded WordPress themes that work well across all of these devices. So, what are we waiting for? Let’s get to work!
Create and run you own record store, decorate, furnish, sell your music of your choice, visit and share with neighbours, collect and unlock achievements and compete again others to become the top Recordstore owner!
About
RecordStore is the first ever record store game. The idea is to create the first built-in game for iOS devices (iPods, iPhones and iPads) – a virtual record store in which the player will design an aesthetic yet functional store that distributes their chosen style music using iTunes as its catalogue for music. The game will aim to:
provide an innovative way to distribute music
socially connect people with music
educate people on the record store owner profession
educate people on issues within the music industry
raise cultural awareness of music and lastly
entertain
Hopefully being built upon a growing catalogue of over 20 million song tracks, high-fidelity audio compression, real-time music streaming, and full-integration with Facebook, RecordStore will redefine the experience of distribution and enjoying music across iOS devices. RecordStore will give users the ability to connect with their Facebook or twitter account, and users will be encouraged to invite their Facebook friends and Twitter network to also access the service and together enjoy an entirely new way to listen to buy and discover music.
Gameplay
Upon beginning a record store, the player first creates a customizable store owner avatar which may be changed at any point. The player begins with an empty plot and a fixed starting amount of “cash”, the primary currency in the game. Players also earn PP (popularity points) for performing certain actions in the game such as putting on store events or buying items. At certain PP benchmarks, the player’s level rises. As the player obtains more items and progresses through levels, more store furniture will become available to them via the “inventory” .Items can be purchased using either cash or “bux”. Bux is earned by levelling up or completing offers, or purchased for real money.
The game will operate on a freemium basis, however if the player wishes they will be given the opportunity use their own real money to make these purchases from within the app and iTunes.

Company keeping the dream of App Store riches alive for app developers. How should rivals compete?
According to Apple chief executive Tim Cook, his company has now paid out $8bn to iOS app developers. That's up from the $7bn milestone that Apple announced on 7 January, indicating a billion-dollar month for App Store payouts...
Sounds kinda cheesy right? Please let me explain. A fairly new service called Branch has come about which allows people to hold private discussion with twitter but without twitter.
Users can conveniently sign up with their twitter account or email and use the service. They can watch the discussion without contributing or they can ask to join which will allow them to contribute 750 character per post. Before joining the discussion they must submit a short statement to a member as to why they should be accepted to join the Branch discussion. And once a member they accept invitations and add others.
Many of times I've seen discussions/debate take place on my timeline but they are broken up by other tweets, you could argue that the use of a hashtag would help to group together the contributions, however, the same hashtag could be used by twitter users not remotely involved or even purposely used to spam the discussion. Branch allows you to have greater control with its screening-like process.
I like the service it offers and I think it's clever idea. The way it seamlessly integrates with twitter helps it to be easy to use. You can also create a new Branch off an existing Branch, hense the name. It's probably easier to see rather than me explain it :/
My first and only (for now) Branch I had joined was What would a Web Church look like?
With the rise of social interactive tools (like branch) what would a church look like if it were without a local meeting place?
How would this effect community?
What are some other tools that could be used?
Do you feel like this is where the church is headed?
Check it out if you wanna see Branch in action or even you wanna add to the discussion.
Moved to Tumblr ( - new posts from this point onwards)
As the title says I will be moving to Tumblr. I've enjoy using WordPress and I like its opensource-ness, however, for the simple blogging that i’m doing I feel that Tumblr provides a better platform. In terms of discovery Tumblr additionally acts as a social network so its easy for people already using the service to like/share/subscribe to your content. WordPress provides the tools for you to create your own community rather than being part of the already existing Tumblr community. As a sophisticated content management system isn't needed in my case, I've chosen to go with the community.
Ricostitch is an urban streetwear clothing brand created by Ricardo Williams. He uses various services on the web to aid his brand. I designed WordPress, Tumblr and BigCartel themes, of which blogs were designed based around one of the default themes provided by BigCartel. I chose to keep the look and feel of the sites quite simple and minimalist as the content is eye catching so it balances it out.
