Yoga doesn’t have to be serious. It doesn’t have to be a $200 outfit on a $100 mat. It doesn’t have to take place on a white sandy beach with waves crashing in the background. Sometimes yoga is just messy hair on an old, beat up mat that your cat insists on sharing. Yoga can be whatever you want it to be. 🙏🏼

Columbine Goldsmith was born in Los Angeles, California and started taking photographs after her father, a cinematographer, gave her an old Nikon FG-20 on a trip to Mexico. After graduating from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, she lived in Europe and then returned to the US to start assisting photographers such as Patrick Demarchelier, Anthony Word, Sebastian Kim and many others.

Personal growth isn’t about becoming a different person, it’s about fundamentally changing how you interact with who you already are.
sometimes I struggle with knowing myself. I find it hard to trust my own instincts, my own intuition. My ego stands in my own way and I find myself making decisions based off of what I think other people expect instead of doing what I want. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with decisions that I don't make one at all. I question almost daily if I'm doing a good job at living my life- as if there is only one right way to live a life. I struggle. I'm not immune to struggle. Yoga, Buddhism, the vegan lifestyle- these things don't make you immune to struggle. They don't make you a better or worse person either. These attributes are just things. They're just pieces of me. I sometimes think they are all I am. I think I would be lost without them. But I would still be me without yoga, without Buddhism, without veganism. I'm more than the things I participate in. I'm more than my doubts and my struggles. I'm more than my accomplishments. A person is so many things, but it's so easy to forget that being a person is shades of grey instead of black and white. I struggle, I fail, I feel overwhelmed and anxious. I feel sad. These aren't things I run away from anymore. I embrace them. I allow them space to be. I allow myself to feed them love. I don't shame the parts of me I don't like anymore. I don't hate the pieces of me that I, or others, considers shameful. I don't hate myself anymore. I love all parts of me. Even my struggles and doubts. Because loving myself, all pieces and depths of myself, is the only way I will continue to grow. It is the only way I know how to be okay.
