Kanjani8 ~TV GUIDE~
Saturday Studio Park - 2013.04.27 - Yoko and Subaru
The hosts bring up their first Kouhaku appearance and Yoko says that all of the members received congratulatory calls and messages from friends and family. Subaru says, “I didn’t get a single call.” Yoko seriously looks surprised and Subaru adds, “I didn’t get any, even though everyone was saying that it was amazing.” Yoko tells him that Subaru didn’t even pretend that he received congratulations and that he’s somehow sorry for bringing it up and Subaru tells him that it’s totally alright.
The hosts ask them about which member was the most nervous about Kouhaku and Yoko says, “Maruyama, isn’t it? That guy sweats right away. His sweaty hands are incredible.”
The show prepares a really old clip of them performing (minus Ohkura who hadn’t yet been inducted into their little Kansai gang) and ask for their impressions. Yoko says that his 17-year-old self pisses him off because his old self was really just going with the flow. Subaru can’t think of anything to say but the hosts point out that he’s stiffened.
Yoko says that Ryo was cute. Aww, oniichan.
The next clip is of Subaru singing Aishiteru, Aishitenai on Music Japan in 1998. Yoko brings up the famous story about how Subaru told him at the time, “After today, I won’t be able to walk in the streets (without having people recognize me)” and the reality of the situation being that Subaru could walk totally normally and even faster than before despite the solo. Yoko talks about how he was envious at the time because Subaru got to sing solo after having been a junior for a relatively short time (two years) while he and Hina were backup dancers. The hosts didn’t notice and Yoko mimes it with his hands saying that he and Hina coming from behind Subaru was like they were in some horror movie.
Yoko gets labelled as the group’s “idea man” and he admits that he writes the scripts for their Eight Ranger skits, but he asks the group for their impressions after he writes drafts. Subaru says that while Yoko does the scripts, the group as a whole think of sound effects and write any of the ranger songs together. Yoko then says, “For our concert rehearsals, we have a weird 3-step system where we have choreography practice, band practice, and skit rehearsal.” Bibiru Ooki laughs and says that it’s like a TV show.
Bibiru Ooki says that because of their skits, they even got to do a movie and Yoko, as always, never forgets to credit DOWNTOWN because if it weren’t for their Go-Ranger skit, Yoko would have never decided to write the Eight Ranger stuff. He says that after the EIGHT RANGER movie, people would say things like, “Oh, you really like ranger stuff” but he tells those people that no, it’s because DOWNTOWN influenced him.
The show asks Hina for his impressions of Yoko and Subaru. For Yoko, he says that Yoko just spaces out for like ten minutes a day. Hina thinks it’s strange and calls it “Yokoyama Time.”
Hina calls Subaru “a cute idiot” and that he gets more adorable as the years go by. Hina’s parting words for them are, “In the best meaning possible, please don’t do things properly.” Subaru says that he could hug Hina for calling him adorable and Yoko asks, “What are you saying?”
Gamer pals turn the table on Hina because they say while Hina spoke about them that way, he’s the most tennen of the group. Yoko says, “That guy really loves money” because he even did a VTR for this show just to talk “smack” about Yoko and Subaru. They also reveal that Hina sometimes uses a second bag (those unfashionable small bags that typically old men/Kansai men are famous for carrying), has been known to show up on set wearing geta sandals, and is stupidly positive (they talk about the famous Murakami Haruki story where Hina thinks that he’s halfway there just because he has the same last name as a famous author).
At the end, they get emails/faxes from viewers and one person asks what they would do if they had five days off (it’s Golden Week right now). Yoko says that he likes to travel and when the hosts ask Subaru what he likes to do, he says, “I’d probably go with him” and everyone remarks that those two get along well. Gosh, I love these two. They’re totally bffs despite not having that kind of relationship where they hang all over each other.
