Can we talk about the fact that Five did not only read Vanya’s book but also wrote all his calculations in it ? This probably means he had it often (if not always) with him, so he could continue to work on the equation and write anything useful that came in his mind on the moment. But, most importantly, he probably kept it because it was the only thing left he had from his family. As he said to Luther, he never enjoyed his job, he never enjoy the killings, but he knew the reason why he was doing it. It was a reminder of where he came from, and why he was doing all this. Maybe it was a way to bring his siblings with him, in some way, everywhere he was going. It reminded him that he was doing it for them, and that one day he would be able to go back to see them again and save them soon enough before the apocalypse. remember this line when the two Five met :

i’m also thinking about him looking at his wrist tattoo quite often during the first years in the apocalypse

There'll be a moment when you realise you're 27 when yesterday you were just 17; and you wouldn't be able to tell how a decade passed away and your life got divided into before and afters. The fury of youth will subdue and nothing will really change but everything will feel different when you look at old photographs and blurry videos taken on cheap mobile phones. Scents will remind you of childhood and certain friends you don't talk to anymore, hangouts will become reunions and mom's burnt pie will become the best food you ever had. And I know on some days you won't be able to show anything of those 10 years but I hope you remember to breathe, and let go of the knot in your chest. I hope you go out in the sun and live a little, because tomorrow is 37.

I love this so much its giving me all the feels. The last panel? Where Five clutches at the blanket? Its so perfect😭😭😭😭

The Gaze of Enola Holmes.

In certain scenes, Enola is wont to stare directly at the camera. At us. I believe that in general, as that action signifies that Enola is aware of the us, it shows that the movie is for us, ripping away our title of Voyeurist. This is punctuated further by her ending words 'The future is up to us' (don't forget the gaze), and in the scene where she hugs The Marquess who has been shot and ...what does she do? You guessed it.

Maybe to show us the result of fanatic conservativism? Or to say 'this is the fight' Or for us to revel in the sorrow and anguish and disgust of the grandmother's actions? To me, it is all of them ...and more.

Lest we forget the only other character who is gifted Enola's 'gaze'. The grandmother. One of the archetypes of conservatism for the movie. At the moment of her defeat she is silent yet as her expression morphs into one of anguished realisation... 'the gaze' she shares with us speaks volumes.

In Enola Holmes, the audience is given a higher standing. We do not simply watch Enola and The Marquess as they struggle with the pressures of their society. We are immersed in it. The conclusion of your analysis is yours, but that doesn't stop our strong-willed protagonist from creating hers.

The Future is up to us.
