“Sounds like things might get interesting again...
Here I thought I was going to waste away being irrelevant again. Tch.”
“Ugh. I’m so annoyed...”
freistag started following you
“Look at that.
A mouse.”
Help us, Aurabi Wan!
“Yeah, when he was convicted most people thought ghosts and spirits were hogwash.” Gumshoe remained calm. “Nowadays the ICOD would have expert testimony–confirmed psychics or channelers that would let the victim be able to give testimony. That’s one of the reasons I’m trying to find evidence to prove it wasn’t Simon or some way to show he’s not a bad guy, so ICOD can investigate everything. Get him cleared of what he didn’t do. Get the right person in jail. And your help, even if it’s just wards to keep his puppets from him to keep him from hurting others, will help me help him and help find the truth.”
He’d pause as he left. “I’ll get the three brothers here tonight, okay? As soon as the sun sets and I can get ‘em here safely? And.. thank you.”
“So you’d just talk to Metis. She’s here every now and then.” [Clay nods in agreement to Aura’s statement; they were actually pretty sure the same guy had done Clay in, as well.]
“Tonight’s fine, I’ll be here until late. Stupid robots need yet another upgrade, so that’s my evening.”
“....mnn. That turned out different than expected.
Ah well.
Mhyra-sama, I’ve brought you a new toy...”
“Go for it then, I trust your psychology tricks.”
“Of course! Didn’t I tell you? I used to be mortal, but I granted myself immortality with a clever demonic deal. I could turn you into a demon as well, if you wish. It just takes selling your soul to me and– well, dying.”
“...it is something for me to consider, I suppose, Mhyra-sama...
Forgive me for not agreeing right away.”
Help us, Aurabi Wan!
Gumshoe snorted softly. “Any kinda help would be appreciated, ma’am. Slowing him down enough that they get a warning to turn on their temporary wards and get to a shelter with stronger ones would probably be enough bother that he doesn’t try to take ‘em.”
He raised his hands. “If.. it helps? I don’t think Simon is a bad guy. I… have reasons I can’t talk about that tell me he’s a good person inside, but’s puttin’ on a show and got involved with a scary situation he can’t get out of.” Gumshoe huffed a sigh. “I don’t even blame him for running–it’s past his execution date for a crime he confessed to and probably didn’t do. I’m working on getting the initial murder case reexamined with ICOD resources.
“But I can’t let Simon hurt people either. He got into this mess, and I want to help him get out of it and find the guy that did the killing he nearly got executed for. Hurting people is only going to make it harder to get him exonerated or get him more jail time for his new crimes. If the things he’s done go on record it’d be impossible. So I need help off the record.”
He was shooting completely straight with her about this. He wasn’t sure if she could tell, but Clay could confirm he was that kind of guy.
“Of course he’s not a bad guy--he didn’t do the crime in the first place.
But no, your stupid court systems thought my testimony was a bunch of mindless nothing. Balderdash, as my brother would say. Not like, y’know, I spoke to the victim or anything. They didn’t believe me.”
[She’s rather angry about the whole ordeal, obviously. She goes back to tinkering with the robot she’d been working on; Clay shoots the detective a nervous look, but Aura thankfully continues.]
“Bring ‘em to me. The vampires. Those are the ones he’s controlling, right? I can at least check if he’s still in there for you. And if he is I can slow him down. If he’s not, I can make wards.”
[ Private ]
I did notice him, he doesn’t seem much of a foe. But you’re right, a lot of sorrow comes from him, I can sense it…
My. Now I see what you mean and let me tell you, you’d make an amazing demon.
“It’d be fun to have a rabid werewolf, don’t you think? And this time no one can blame us. It’s not like I can control him, only whisper sweet nothings to him...”
“Demon, Mhyra-sama? Me?”
What are you planning, dear?
“Well....it’s just a thought right now.
Have you seen how mopey the mutt’s twin is? The one who’s leg I broke?
It’d be really easy to convince him to go rabid. A lone wolf like that, an Alpha, to boot...wolves don’t like the isolation. It’d be quite easy, no magic involved. Just manipulation.
Just a thought....I’m bored, and one of my puppets is unusable, now...”
person: that's mean
me: i'm mean
“A rabid wolf sounds like a good time.
It’d be easy to do with that one. So vulnerable.”
“I’m so bored....
A new puppet would be fun, the question is where to get one...”
sometimes people will disagree with u but that’s ok bc u can just kill them
Help us, Aurabi Wan!
“Well, I can’t see him all the time. Just when he’s talkin’ to me. I’m about as not-sensitive to supernatural forces as a person can get, see?” He shrugged. “Anyway, the ICOD is the Inhuman Criminal Offense Department. If something supernatural breaks the law or someone breaks the Inhuman Rights Act we’re the department that investigates. And…”
“Well, see, there’s this family. Good folks. One side’s Vampires, other side’s werewolves. Some of ‘em are time-refugees, one of the Vampire’s an Unliving. But the three Vampire brothers have fallen prey to a desperate necromancer. Thing is, I’m pretty sure that the necromancer’s not a bad guy and got tricked into his position because he was looking for the one who killed someone important to him. And I’m willing to try to help him, but first things first, he needs to be unable to puppet the Vampires again.”
He was carefully avoiding the topic of the identity of the necromancer.
“I know nothin’ about this stuff, but I heard you might. Since I gotta do this off the books for the safety of the innocent family involved, and even for the necromancer’s sake, I can’t talk to the department connections.”
“....you don’t have to dance around the name. I know you’re talking about Simon.”
[She sets down a wrench she’d been carrying, and puts a hand on her hip.]
“Asshole breaks out of jail, doesn’t even come visit me....I probably could have helped him out if he was building an army, jeez.” [You could definitely hear Clay’s really nervous laughter; Aura was joking, right?]
“Ahh....okay, so, what. You want me to stop him? I can’t. I can only see and talk to spirits, the men in our family get all the necromantic magic, unfortunately.
On the fortunate side, though, I know how to slow him down. Still interested, or did I just become useless to you, too?”
Help us, Aurabi Wan!
“Err, sorry.” He had barely dodged the shot but ‘barely’ had saved him pain. “I.. Uh…” Gumshoe was actually unprepared for this. The laser hadn’t helped.
“Well, introductions first I guess. I’m Detective Gumshoe with the ICOD, and I don’t technically have clearance to be here. I’m here, off the record, ‘cause my pal Clay says you might be able to help me with some stuff. He’s the one that let me in.” He motioned around vaguely with a hand. “Hopefully space kid can vouch for me, I don’t have any way to check where he is.”
“...you can’t see him? You should be able to, looks like you’ve got a Core.” [she points at his chest; a Core of the Dead, she means. Something odd to know about someone you’ve just met.]
“I have enough stuff lying around here that he can float about freely, anyways. Clay, you can talk to us both, right?” [to this, the ghost kid responds “yep!”
Aura glances back to the detective.]
“So if you don’t have clearance and you can see Clay...what do you want? ICOD?”
Help us, Aurabi Wan!
[There was a small monitor over a door as Gumshoe made his way down the hall; this must be where the extra security measures were. The monitor blinks a few times before revealing our favorite ghost kid, waving.]
✰ “Still here! Just using the satellite signals rather than your phone, heheh.
I have to over-ride the employee key-in, but I should still be in the system, so we can just use mine…hang on….”
[A panel by the door flashes red a few times, then finally, it stops on a green light. The door opens, revealing a longer hallway and more doors, this time with signs above each to indicate which room was which.”
✰ “Awesome! Robotics lab is third on the left!”
Gumshoe nodded as he watched the ghostronaut work his magic. “Thanks.” He didn’t say more in case he was being recorded but idly wondered to himself why the dead kid’s access codes were still good even as he headed into the hall. Hadn’t he been dead long enough that they’d disable his access?
The detective decided to not look a gift horse too closely in the mouth and strode to the third door like he had every right to be there.
After a moment’s hesitation and a deep breath he reached for the door and tried to open it.
[The door opens, sure, but it’d be followed by someone screaming “duck!” right afterwards. If you didn’t think supernatural stuff had you stepping into a sci-fi, a laser beam shooting right above your head should do it. Past the offending robot was a purple-haired woman in a lab coat, looking more angry than worried about the fact the man at the door was almost shot.]
“Haven’t you heard of knocking?? If you got clearance to be back here you should know what’s going on back here!
Who are you, anyways?”
Actually I meant that I was going leave soon again.
[ It’s amazing. For once in months, he feels like his feelings belongs to him only; not a toy for these crazy people to play with, to make him their weapon. ]
Mhyra can crawl back into the pit she came from, and you can go with her. I wain’t working with ya anymore.
[ But it was better not to test Simon. Other spirits must’ve told him where Yomiel is hiding and he can’t make the same mistake again. ]
“Cut the crap, Yomiel.” [he...doesn’t sound too pleased. One thing to insult Mhyra like that, another to defy him....Simon does not have a good temper, really.]
“You really think you’re going to talk to me like that? You forget what I can do to you.”
