âIâŠâ He began, but words seemed to fail him then. Suddenly both his heart and mind were racing. Did he sound too weird or cheesy? Agh, they were right in the middle of the street too! What if people were watching andâ
Doppo met her gaze once more upon feeling her hands on his face. He swore he couldnât tell if he was feeling warm from her touch or the blood rising to his cheeks. Her warmthâ just like before, it soothed him. His worries melted away into contentment. Only Mai could make him feel this way.
Perhaps it was the lingering adrenaline, coupled with the assurance of her gaze. Thereâs no denying it. And he did just as she wished.
âI⊠I do. I like you, Mai.â
More than heâd ever known.
For her, hearing those simple words meant the whole world, and it was a fact that no one could ever make her feel the same way, did he have any idea the things he did to her? Her cheeks, blooming with rose colored blush, eyes sparkling as she looked at him as if there was no one else around them. Mai could not -- and would not -- hide the absolute joy that was enveloping her whole being, making her warm and fuzzy inside as if she were being caressed by the gentle rays of the scorching sun. She wanted her feelings to come across, axactly as they were, because Mai Shiranui was a woman who only ever allowed herself to feel the way she did with the right person.
Oh, how she wanted Doppo to be the right one.
Without missing a beat, and absolutely void of hesitation, may got on the tips of her toes as her soft lips found Doppoâs, gingerly kissing him with the sort of sweet innocence of a girl in love, but just as passionate as the fire burning inside her fiery soul. Nervousness washed over her, excitement, expectation, all at once...but more than anything, she felt like buzzing with bliss.
Jael. Walking around. With his sideballs out in a thong.

Marz liked to move around a lot, but this time he was certain that this was the area in the forest was heâd like to stay FOREVER! so certain, in fact, that heâs started assembling a permanent home- a treehouse. but it wasnât a lot harder than he anticipated⊠pretty noisy too. he wasnât surprised when birds or bears came to visit due to all of his hard work⊠but he wasnât ready anything without fur or feathers just yet!Â
â ah! welcome! â he waved both arms or at least tried to from under the beam he happened to drop on himself. he was lying in a pile greeting of materials, actually. but what did that matter? he had a visitor! a guest!!Â
@yonipponichi··  /  starter call Â
The Shiranui home was a little deeper into the green forest than most old homes in the old Kyoto neighborhood, so naturally, Mai was far more in tune with odd happenings around the wilderness than most. It wasnât deifficult to notice there was something rustling around the trees lately.
This was not what she expected to find.
âW-What the heck is going on here?â She exclaimed, looking around with both confusion and curiosity. Not to mention, concern.
âYouâll get crushed under that thing, geez!!â She rushed to help the weirdo out of this bizarre situation, trying to lift the beam enough so heâd get out from under it.

He wasnât his usual self in those couple of minutes for sure; the meek and anxious salary man suddenly standing strong while spouting harsh words to put those louts in their place. Never mind them messing with him⊠but he couldnât let them make a pass at Mai in such a distasteful manner.
Doppo watched on as they fled. Good thing too. The ordeal need not escalate any further. With that, he switched his mic off, the âphoneâ in his hand reverting back to its original form. And that was when Maiâs embrace caught him by surprise.
âWhoa! I⊠I-It was..?â It all happened so quickly and spontaneously, which wasnât how heâd typically go about things. Huh⊠looking back now, he couldnât believe he actually did it.
So close⊠and what more, she had to say all those things and make his face flush all the way to his ears. It didnât bother him as much though. Instead he found himself staring at the spark of joy in her eyes, and her smile. Mai had never looked more beautiful.
âWh-What are you saying?â Doppo couldnât help the slight nervous chuckle. She didnât want to think about anyone else? If she only wasnât looking at him that way, heâd be certain that sheâs joking. Honestly though⊠now he was wondering if it was selfish of him to be happy to hear it coming from her.
ââŠI do believe you.â Histone grew soft and contemplative. âThank you for⊠for believing in me. What would I ever do without you?â There was a sudden pause, his heart hammering in his chest. And whether he realized it or not, his arms gingerly held her in turn. âI wouldnât be able to forgive myself if anything happens to you. Mai, I⊠I liâ âŠI mean, you⊠youâre really⊠i⊠important⊠t-to me too.â
âI do believe youâ he chuckled, she felt his breath tickling her skin --- It had not mattered that Mai was made to say it so many times -- how she liked him so much -- for him to finally look at her in the eye and accept her words, Mai wouldâve been happy to say it over and over again, until he understood. Thatâs what love meant to someone like Mai Shiranui.
Ah, why was he so cute?! Mai couldâve squealed, had she not been melting into Doppoâs arms. Being held by him so gently in the middle of a sea of neon lights was something like out of a dream. Ah, but he still was so hesitant to tell her how he felt...
âHey now, if you like me...this is the best time to tell me, dummy!â Giggling, she is bold enough to gently cup his face with her hands. Despite the chilly weather, her touch is warm as always. Making him meet that smoldering gaze, Mai took a deep breath. She wanted so desperatedly to know. âPlease, say it...do you like me?â

â câmon. do I look like I go to parties? â heâs never even been invited to one. sure, there was that one time in middle school, but it ended in him getting jumped and tossed in the pool and almost drowned him just like they planned. Noea wasnât an expert now but unless thatâs what you do with people at parties, it was more like a malicious lie means to LURE him to the party than an invite.Â
man, she asks ALL the hard-hitting questions. â I was just thinking out loud. I didnât think youâd hear me or even talk back. â his mistake, obviously. â sorry. âÂ
ugh! now sheâs got the totally wrong idea. â no! of course not! geez, what do you take me for?â
âHeh, too bad, buddy! My senses are trained, there is no way I wasnât going to hear that.â She shrugged, giggling with a light.hearted amusement towards the situation he got himself into. But, she doesnât blame him that much either, after all...most people are not expecting others to be ninjas.
âOh come on! You totally have been sending me âohmigosh she is annoyingâ looks, you think I donât notice? To be honest, Iâm starting to believe you think Iâm dumb.â With a raised brow, she gave him a suspicious look.Â

The bitter cold of autumn was just beginning to set in, paving the dirt road with crisp leaves and dried up mud; the sheen of ice gluing what remained of the grass to the earth in the early morning chill. While this path itself was never frequently traveled, not when there were trains that cut through Hokkaido and tours that strayed away from the more treacherous paths for the safety of its members. They remember, though, back when this road had once been full of visitors - young and old, that all whispers a silent prayer to them for safe passage as they tugged on their boots and gathered their children to their bodies to keep them warm as they made the trek into the livelier parts of the region. Itâs been decades - no, likely longer, since those days but theyâve lost track of the time. It all seems to blur together these days and they no longer truly recall how long its been since theyâve taken up this post. But they donât mind the quiet; they enjoy it, in fact. The company of the few birds nesting upon their aged shrine is welcome, more so than the chaos and spite that always seems to cling to humans no matter how kindly they speak or how politely they carry themselves.Â
Humans are almost always selfish, cruel creatures they have learned. Yet the owls that take shelter beneath their crudely polished stones, clean their feathers, and chirp amongst themselves are innocent - animals are incapable of cruelty and they wish it were possible to truly touch them. But when they lean forward upon the roof of their meager shrine to ghost their icy fingers over the birdâs soft feathers, they feel nothing - their hand passes through its solid form and the owl lets out a screech of surprise as it lifts its frozen wings and attempts to fly away only to fall upon the frozen earth. With a series of screeches echoing through the mountain that rattled their formless body they watched; cold, blue eyes twisting open in concern as the bird continued to struggle. Leaping onto the ground, they made their way over to the bird, hand lingering above its form like they wished to help it. But if they touched it again, they would only hurt it more.Â
Lips curing downward into a frown, they returned to the shrine, rummaging through the offerings for something anything that might warm the bird - pulling out an old scarf at the bottom. Carefully taking it between their thumb and index finger to prevent from freezing too much of the cloth, they went back to the bird, kneeling down beside it and dropping the scarf upon its wing before rubbing the thick cloth against its feathers to thaw out the tiny bits of ice clinging to its body. It was still for a long moment - unable to see them and unable to touch them; confused and dazed, but seemingly comforted by the warmth. Yet, the moment the poor creatures hears the sound of footsteps echoing off of the shrineâs old, wooden walls, it wiggles away from the scarf, stretches its trembling wings and takes off. At first it dips several times, but it eventually regains its balance, much to Hakuâs relief.Â
They watch the bird until its frame vanishes into the sunrise, only then do they turn to face the shrine and the woman currently standing before it. Visitors were rare after spring twisted into fall and the weather began to take a turn for the worse, even the locals who normally made it part of their daily routine to visit them would miss days, even weeks, here and there for the sake of their own safety; a visitor that they had been never seen before was rarer still. Even so, her prayer still reaches their ears; carried by the wind to them as they make their way over to the stranger. âTo wish for such a thing from meâŠyou would be better off praying at the temples within the city.â They doubt they will be heard, let alone seen, but habit makes them speak anyway, perhaps simply because they hope one day someone will hear them - if for no other reason than to fill the void that has seemingly plagued them since the day this shrine was made their home. Â
Ah, the north was always so cold! Hokkaido was such a beautiful island, she loved it when her profession would bring her there, but Mai would never get used to the cold weather, colder than her natal Kyoto. Not only that, but she was naturally made for hot climates and burning rays of sun! But she was fortunate at least, the power of the fire inside of her allowed her to keep her body always warm and hot, making lower temperatures actually bearable.
Mai breathed fire into her hands as she walked her way through the flora painted in autumn colors, and covered in a white veil. The chirping of the birds echoed ahead, only their singign and Maiâs footsteps seemed to be the only sounds all around the old, dusty path towards the shrine. She hadnât planned to, but when she heard of it, the kunoichi knew she had to go pay respects to the local deities -- that was the way she was raised. Honoring the past, and those who came before us.
Well, after a nice walk, Mai found herself in front of the old builsing. It was beautiful in itâs own way, that was certain...Mai always found herself drawn back to places that reminded her of home: old buildings, lush forests, walls made of wood and stone, worn down by the centuries. She approached the shrine, a hop in her step signaling her good mood, and a sunny smile on her face that couldâve melted ice. Â
She prayed for good fortune on her upcoming fight, good health, and for her ancestors to watch her with pride.
Mai was, all of the sudden, startled by a voice -- it came from nowhere, and yet, it sounded like it was everywhere. She turned around, her feet moving swiftly on the wood, getting on a cautious stance, behind her she was met by the sight of a person. âExcuse me, what?â She looked at them curious, and surprised. The first thing she noticed, was how they looked...it was hard to describe, but âetherealâ perhaps was the best way to put it.Â
âGee! Where did you come from, I totally didnât hear you!â She laughed lightly, a little amezed, after all sneaking up on a ninja is not something any run of the mill fella can do! âSorry, what did you say about other temples? I thought it was open to the public here.â
u-ki-yoâ:
Thatâs it. His night out with Mai ruined before it even began, and itâs all his fault. Why was he such a klutz, bumping into a couple of brutes of all people? Once more he had made a complete fool of himself. Mai probably wouldnât want to be seen with him again after thisâ
And then her voice, bold and true, put a halt to his train of thoughts. Doppo could only stare in surprise. Those words, honestly⊠She thought so highly of him, even when he acted so pathetic just now. Was she right? He did win the division battles, didnât he? âŠYeah. He didnât have to take this.
Not only that, the way they were ogling her⊠it was really making his blood boilâŠ
The moment one of them reached forward, he stepped in front of her with newfound courage. âLeave her be⊠p-pleaseâŠâ That only made them laugh, spitting more insults his way. The moment one of them raised a hypnosis mic, he instinctively brought out his. Now he knew Mai was more than capable of fending for herself, but he felt the need to defend her, to do something. He owed her this much.
Just one verse, thatâs all.
He turned on his mic and was spewing rhymes in an instant. His tone was sharp, expressing their daftness and lack of class, not to forget how they didnât deserve to be before a woman like Mai. The words cut like a blade, and the impact was apparent in the targetsâ reactions, having the breath knocked out of them before scrambling to their feet to flee. Maybe then theyâd realize just who they were dealing withâŠ
They obviously thought she was bluffing, still telling her how she was too sexy of a thing to be wasted on âa meek loserâ. It infuriated her. Mai was more than prepared to get rowdy, which meant, she was ready to mop the floor with those annoying men. But then, she found herself watching Doppoâs back, as he stepped in between her and them, shielding her from them.
Suddenly, before she knew it, Doppo was fighting on his own way agains them, the same way he did on his rap battles. He looked so cool, Mai wanted to sqeual! Truly, she didnât think he could look any cooler than he always did, but in that moment it was as if he was a totally different person, and yet, still her dear Doppo.
She felt her heart being squeezed by a flood of emotions, a true romantic that she was, being saved by her charming prince was like a dream!! He really was her dream man...gosh, she was blushing!! ---
She did not wait a second, after the battle was over, before jumping into Doppoâs arms, hugging him tightly. âDoppo, that was totally amazing!!! You are my hero, hehe.â Mai just could not stop smiling and laughing. With her arms around his neck, Mai suddenly went uncharacteristically silent, as she simply stared at Doppo with a playful smile and sparkling eyes.
âHehe, you know...I meant every word I said to those losers, I really, really, really like you. I like you so much that, I donât want to think about anyone else.â Her cheeks were burning red, but she was as bold as ever. âDo you believe me? Because, itâs totally true.â
