(TRANS) 150908 BTS Interview in Hong Kong
Popular Korean boy group Bangtan Boys has only debuted about 2 years ago but they are loved by many fans all over the world. Recently they've been traveling all over the world for their world tour and have been receiving unlimited support and blessings from fans from different places. August 28 was their last concert stop in Hong Kong and it also attracted many ARMYs (BTS fans). Moreover, taking advantage of the members being here for their last stop in Hong Kong, I conducted a close-up interview with these seven members that can dance and sing. Let's reveal the cool and cute side of BTS offstage. Idol group that's very intimate BTS has arrived in Hong Kong for their world tour and I met with them backstage in hopes to help fans find out more of what they're like off stage. Seeing the seven them with no makeup, they look very cute and cool. It's definitely good to be young. They also used the Chinese they learned and kept saying 'hello' and 'thank you' - definitely very intimate idols! Difficult idol road Two years since their debut, they have experienced many things on stage. BTS feels that each moment is unforgettable and precious but this road as idols is extremely difficult. They experienced very difficult times while practicing dancing and recording in America. Their abilities to dance and sing on stage is exchanged through blood, sweat, and tears offstage. But seeing so many fans cheer them on each time, it recharges them to continue to work hard. Talking about the most unforgettable thing about visiting different places, they said the fans singing along with them is the most unforgettable. Since everyone speaks different languages, they should technically be taught to sing it. But everyone can sing-a-long by themselves and it leaves them very happy and unknowingly start listening to the fans sing-a-long. Hong Kong is MAMA stage This isn't BTS' first time performing in Hong Kong. At the end of last year, they collaborated with boy group Block B on a captivating performance for the MAMA awards show that was held in Hong Kong. Speaking of the chance that MAMA will be held in Hong Kong again, they expressed their excitement! Jimin said, "Of course it would be great if MAMA is held in Hong Kong this year. It would be great. MAMA makes me think of Hong Kong. It would be nice if we can go this year as I hope to bring great performances to everyone." Suga added, "It's our first time seeing our Hong Kong fans at MAMA last year. They were very passionate. I was very touched when the fans starting singing the lyrics. This is our first concert here so I also want to know how the fans will react." Interested in acting with Chow Yun Fat Other than singing, does BTS have interest in acting? The answer is yes. All of the members answered excitedly that they really hope to work with Chow Yun Fat. V said, "He is both a sunbae and a teacher in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. Plus we really like Hong Kong movies so it would be really fun to work with him." Chow Yun Fat is highly popular among the Chinese and I jokingly asked which member they thought is the most popular among fans. After everyone's recommendations, they have finally concluded and leader Rap Monster announced, "We think it's J-Hope! He seems to have improved a lot lately and is very fun. I'm sure the Hong Kong fans would really like this type of charm." I wonder if you also think it's J-Hope? Preparing for next album It's been such a happy time speaking with BTS but since it was time for their dinner and rehearsal, we had to quickly wrap up our interview. Since their difficult schedule and world tour is coming to an end, I asked what's their plans and what they want to do during their free time. Rap Monster said, "As long as we have free time, everyone would use it to sleep, rest, or write songs and lyrics. Everyone does different things. We are also preparing for our next album. Since our tour was very long, we need to rest and recharge ourselves." When recharging was mentioned, Suga suddenly thought about home, "I want to return to my hometown Daegu. Daegu has a main road like Tsim Sha Tsui (J-Hope had a look of desire once he heard Tim Sha Tsui)." V jumped in, "Yes! There's lots to see, eat, and play in Daegu. Everyone can go check it out!" Jungkook wants to go to a vacation home to enjoy his vacation. He hopes that when this tour ends, they can put down their busy, difficult schedule and enjoy their time! Source
(TRANS INTERVIEW) 150908 BTS ‘Cool Onstage, Cute Offstage’
Bangtan Boys is a Korean boy group who even has a Chinese name! The first I heard the name, I already thought it was very cool. With their strong and amazing dancing, they have already told Korean fans that they will become the latest boy group to shine. Undeniably, as 2015 rolled around and it's been two years since their debut, they have already won multiple times for this comeback on 'Show Champion,' KBS 2TV 'The Show,' and other music programs. They have also traveled all over Asia in the past half year for their concert tour. It's hard to deny that BTS' popularity has already penetrated every corner of the world. The day before '2015 BTS Live Trilogy in Hong Kong: Episode II The Red Bullet,' the editorial staff met with these seven cool guys. Like many other boy groups, the relationship between BTS is super cute. This group of cute youths took on the interview with an attitude similar to traveling abroad. If they have a bullet-like presence on stage, then they have killer smiles off stage. Hoping to attend MAMA again BTS is in Hong Kong again after last year's MAMA awards show, and is also their first time holding their own concert in Hong Kong. Last time on the MAMA stage, they collaborated on a performance with another Korean boy group, Block B, that captivated everyone's attention. Although they don't know if they will participate in MAMA again this year, I'm sure the Korean fans would very look forward to seeing their MAMA performances again. Even they expressed their desire to attend MAMA again. Talking about advantages of teammates This time the editorial staff planned a little game that we like to play with idol groups. Every member chooses a member's name [randomly] and talks about this member's advantages! While choosing the members, they showed surprised expressions. Since they can't reveal which member they chose, they can only use their expressions to tell the members sitting by them by who they chose. Some members seemed to be very satisfied with their choosing, as shown by their excitedness. There were also some members that showed difficulty in regards to their chosen member. But since they've been together for a long time, they actually really like each other. Everyone answered very seriously and I trust that the members felt a bit embarassed after hearing the answers. The first person to choose was J-Hope. J-Hope: (chose Suga) Although Suga seems insensitive, he's often the first one that looks after the other members. He's the one that takes care of the members the most! Suga: (Amazingly, Suga choose J-Hope) He's always very cheerful and positive. He gives others a lot of energy/strength! Jimin: (chose Rap Monster): Don't be fooled by Rap Monster's appearance. He's not too much like his appearance. He has an attentive side, very responsible, very strict in his self-management, and...... very handsome! Hahaha! Rap Monster: (chose V) V is born with a 'celebrity-look.' How can his face be such good looking! V: (chose Jin) He's the most handsome member! He has the broadest shoulders so very handsome! (Starting to realize that everyone is praising each other of being handsome; although each of them are indeed very handsome.) Jin: (chose Jimin) He is filled with cute charms. His personality is very smooth, as if he has no enemies. Jungkook: (sadly he chose himself but answered very well) I feel like I'm one that can achieve what I desire. I'm a very dedicated person and I do what I want freely! Food and places they like Since the interview time is quite short, the editorial staff already prepared pencil and paper for them to answer the following questions. Let's read about these lively bulletproof scouts' favorite food and places. J-Hope: I really like to eat rice cakes with beef and my favorite places to go to is a place in Jeolla-do called Damyang. Suga: I love to eat dukbokki; I often go to Hangang since I can play basketball and it feels very cool. Jimin: I really like to eat kimchi and banchan; home is my favorite place. Jungkook: My favorite is smoked duck; I really like the beach and swimming pool since I like water. Rap Monster: Samgyeopsal and kalgaksu; I love going to cafes and Hangang! V: I recommend soup dumplings, very good; And the places I like are Geochang, Daegu since they are places I've lived in. Jin: It's got to be dakgangjeong; I really like to go to Sangsurak. I remember this being a place I often go with my family as a child. Thoughts about own works BTS' title songs since debut have always been deeply loved by fans. The editorial staff also organized for each of them to pick out a BTS title song name and tell the fans what they feel about that song. J-Hope: (chose 'I Need U') Whether it's recording or choreographing, it was the happiest. When I saw the choreograph when I was recording, it feel like the most anticipated dance. What was interesting was when we were choreographing, we revealed 'I Need U>' as well as the order of the music so it left a deep impression. Suga: (chose 'Hormone War') We recorded this in America. But [my/our] condition wasn't very good but luckily the result turned out well. Jimin: (chose 'Boy in Luv') While preparing for this album, to be it felt like we practiced this dance the longest. Rap Monster: (chose 'Danger') We recorded this in America. I received a lot of experience while preparing this!!! V: (chose 'No More Dream') Since the range is low for this song, it was quite difficult recording this song. It's also my first time recording rap so just thinking about it feels hard. Jin: (chose 'Just One Day') This song is really good. It was also recorded in just one day. Jungkook: (chose 'Dope') There are parts everyone sings together. Everyone thinks it's annoying when we need to sing it, but once we actually do it, everyone feels very excited. I hope you like our interpretation. Unforgettable fans sing-a-long BTS finally completed their second tour. The fans' sing-a-long was definitely the most unforgettable. No matter where they are, they feel as though all of the fans can sing along in Korean. It's something that leaves them shocked (the staff informed that that many overseas fans that like k-pop knows Korean and some are even amazing at it. Rap Monster and the other's had their eyes wide open as if they can't believe it). After interviewing with this group of lively and active boys, I sure will look forward to their super cool performances. I hope our editors will continue to explore other boy group's true selves off stage. Source
(TRANS) 150706 Meeting Hip Hop - BTS Suga & Rap Monster Interview
Hip hop is flourishing in the current music industry. On the day of "Show Me the Money," "Unpretty Rapstar," and other program broadcasts, the online searches are dominated by hip hop artists. Names of hip hop artists on various charts are fixed in the first few places. Naturally, there are now more and more artists doing hip hop. Not only to the culture, but there is also a great leap in quality. It can be called the "Korean hip hop renaissance" now. These artists that are leading the "under" and "over" is here to meet us through "Meeting Hip Hop". "Honestly, doing this interview is scary" Through the stories told by Bangtan Boys' Rap Monster, who is the most talented 'hip hop idol' in today's music industry, we find out the reason why he's "scared". It's because they receive disparaging criticisms as idols. We feel a bit shameful about this. Of course in the past there are those that debut before finishing their music or idols that doing music activities after being packaged together like fast food. But over the past 20 years, the idol market has already become mainstream. While seizing the position, their standard of music has greatly improved. Certain promising young idols have appeared, and there are also groups that have achieved results with distinct music. “Bangtan Boys' hip hop," because they are an idol group, they have to continue facing criticism. How will the public view change in the future? But what is fairly clear is that the question of "are they idol" absolutely cannot be distinguished from "is it hip hop". Also, Bangtan Boys are cool "idols" and also a "hip hop group" - this is an undeniable fact. (This interview is done by Suga and Rap Monster.) What I like is good Although this interview is unrelated to the album promotions, this interview was coincidentally scheduled during the promotions of follow-up song "Dope" from BTS' mini album "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa pt. 1". So naturally we will begin by talking about the album. Regarding the "Dope" follow-up promotions, Rap Monster said, "(Although it's a follow-up song) In order to show our best, there was a bit of time between the 'I Need U' promotions. It's not another song we prepared but that we had already decided on this as the next song when we recorded the songs, so we hoped to do well on it. The concept photos were retaken, the MV was also newly filmed, the choreography was also newly planned... it's like preparing for completely new promotion activities". Suga continued, "Although there was no burden, we are normally are ones that prepare a lot. Plus, 'Dope' has a similar feeling to our follow-up song, 'Hormone War,' from our previous album 'Dark & Wild'. The response was great back then and that's how it saved us." He revealed a smile. A difference between "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa pt. 1" and BTS' previous albums is that there is no "Cypher" recorded (a song where the rappers use freestyle to tell their story). Rap Monster explained, "There were many people that expected a 'Cypher' track but if we continued to do that, the effect of it will be weakened, so we purposefully skipped it this time. This album was released after 8 months. Compared to the previous albums that were released after 4, 6 months, it's an even shorter period of time. If we recorded a Cypher track, we worry that it might be too similar [to previous ones]. We wanted to rest on it for some time so we can show something better as time passes". It's a shame that it was not included in "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa pt. 1," but Cyphers are considered BTS' most clear-cut tracks as hip hop artists. (In fact MC Meta, who has always been in the hip hop scene, also praised 'BTS Cypher Pt. 3: Killer.) With the members personally composing the song and writing the lyrics, it's a track that showcases BTS' possibilities. Rap Monster explained the album production method, "(The members' involvement in the album) is over a half. About 60%? It gradually increases with every album. It was pretty much handled by me, Suga hyung, and J-Hope hyung, the rap line. And now even the remaining members are involved in the track production. I am ambitious to have more people know about our own works so we participated a lot in this album." One thing to point is the role of producer Bang Shihyuk. Rap Monster said, "He plays the role of the reviewer and direction leader. He's the one that coordinates the overall balance of the album. He's the type that would say 'I want to see what you guys can do' and leaves it all to us." Suga continued, "After producing a song, the final decision will be given to him. Regardless, he's still a sunbae in terms of music so he makes the decision for us. He’s more familiar with popular songs than we are so we received a lot of help in that aspect. We can record any of the songs that we wish, but the title song needs to have a sense of appeal to the public.” Suga added, "When you mention producers in Korea, people would mainly think 'composers.' But it can also include being the director. I usually compose songs with that type of thought. There's actually another person responsible for the track production, Pdogg. And I'm more like the second producer." One thing to especially point out in BTS' music is the heavy guitar riffs in the hip hop beats. Suga expressed his agreement, "That's right. If you listen to our album, you'll realize that there's quite a lot of electronic and guitar accompaniments." Rap Monster explained in regards to why they often use such accompaniments, "I think it's important for people to feel excited so as performers, we put a lot of thought to it. Especially, for our title song, we had someone famous from America play the rhythm." (As an aside: That's why it's more fun to the singer and to the audience when BTS performs live.) In fact BTS' music is not oriented to a specific accompaniment. Rap Monster said about this, "We're just rooted into hip hop music; we didn't necessarily decide upfront whether to do east coast, west coast, old school or boombap. It doesn't have to be hip hop. Even EDM is good, pop is good. Don't they all have a cool vibe to them? Those have affected me altogether." Suga added, "Honestly in times like this, it's hard to say where your roots are. We're not like Kendrick Lamar where once you listen, you can tell the distinct regional style. We just like hip hop music. With hip hop as the center, we can borrow from EDM, pop, or rock accompaniments." Because they have such music values, BTS' music uses less electronic music and more emphasis on the melody line compared to other hip hop idols. They are ones that do not always follow the popular trends, but have their own style. To this Suga simply answered, "I believe that if I like it, then it's good." He added, "Actually there were a lot to consider when producing a title song. It's important that it sounds good but there's a lot to think about, like the performance, the rapping's clarity, vocals, and line distributions. We really consider a lot for the title song. We spent a lot of efforts to keep working on different versions of the title song so that we can produce a song that 'sounds good.'" Rap Mon and Suga made a promise for the next album, "We have started preparing for the songs in 'Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa pt. 2'. Whether it's mentally or in music, we are more matured now than we were when we first debuted. We will be back with even better works." Idol and Hip Hop The main reason why BTS' creative activities are even more difficult is because of the public's bias against idols. Since they are idols, they have taken steps back but at the same time, they don't want to give up their own desire/ambition. Rap Monster said, "At first I was a bit reluctant to debut as an idol. I originally was supposed to debut in a rap group but it suddenly changed. But during the training process, I've come to realize that I can still do my music even if I'm in an idol group." Suga also added, "Even though when we gave in sometimes, we also received things in return. In fact, in terms of producing music, there's nothing that's lacking at the moment. We'll still doing what we want." In particular, it already seems like they've already freed themselves from the debate of idol or hip hop. Rap Monster expressed his thoughts frankly, "I can also understand being underestimated due to being an idol. I'm already a lot more lenient to those criticisms. 'How do I make it like hip hop music?' 'How close does it have to be before it's hip hop?' When you listen to music and if you exclude those kind of thoughts and think ‘it's not bad,’ then that song is yours.” Suga said, "Music is not judged by the producer anyways; it's by the listeners. People will dislike something if it doesn't suit their taste and they'll like it if it does. It's all based on the listeners' preferences. That's why I don't think it's necessary for us to explain to them that 'it should be like this.'" Obviously they know that to musicians, the best weapon is the music itself. Rap Mon said, "In short, we are confident that there are people that know us and like us." Suga added, "I think people's thoughts will change. Recently rather than actually finding music to listen to, it's a time where more people are only listening to [the music] because they heard it. As long as many people say it's good, then it becomes good music. We just need to continuously release good music and then make even better music after hearing the feedback. This judgment is given to the public." They promise to use good music to change the views of the public for them. There are also advantages to debuting as idols. Suga said, "I think debuting as idols is advantageous because it allows more people to listen to our music. But the music made for the public isn't necessarily the music I want to do. This is where there are contradictions." Suga revealed that he is stressed over his own music and BTS' music, "I'm not yet completely satisfied with BTS' music so I'm always constantly continuing to produce on my own. Honestly the music I want to pursue cannot be completely reflected in BTS' albums. Because we are idols, we produce music for the public. I am working hard right now to find the balance in between." Suga's solution to these difficulties is "producing." In order to find that equilibrium point, Suga said he is making efforts, "I've written more than 60 songs these past two years. It's about 80 songs if we include Rap Monster's work and mixtape. Even Lil Wayme probably isn't like this; working hard to this point and trying many things." Then what does Suga and Rap Monster think is BTS’ position? Suga said surprisingly, "I think it's a bit far-fetched to call BTS' album as 'hip hop music'." He continued, "Recently I'm not placing the emphasis on ‘the rap must be good’ and ‘hip hop genre,’ but rather attitude. Because I no longer constrain myself to those two points, I think it's a bit far-fetched to say it's hip hop. Like I said early, it's good if I like it. It's not that I like it just because it's hip hop, but rather I like it because it's good music. Of course before I've also wondered ‘why.....’ and also disputed the public's view on us. But now I just simply want to make music that touches many people so I've decreased many thoughts like 'it should be like this.'" He is showing an open-minded attitude to this genre debate. Rap Monster also filled in, "When we accepted this interview, I was afraid because our appearance itself on 'Meeting Hip Hop' will already cause a debate. For those that are long-time listeners of hip hop music, many think that due to our label as idols, BTS' music is very far off from hip hop. But we don't feel wronged about that. After all, whether it's 'they are a bit hip hop' or 'they are only idols' are all the truth. They all have their own definition of hip hop. We don't necessarily have to ask them to 'confirm' us (as hip hop artists). But we just hope that they can simply view us from their own standpoint. What they see is what it is." Even though Suga and Rap Monster now have open-minded attitudes about these debates, they have once struggled about this. Suga takes it a bit easier as he doesn't care about these small things. But to Rap Monster, who easily gets hurt from things like these, admitted frankly that it was very difficult. Rap Monster said, "There are some people that say after listening to my mixtape as to 'why does he have such serious inferiority complex?' It's because I was born that way. I often feel wronged and hurt inside. 'Honestly, I'm insignificant and pessimistic' - I agree to this point. But I had also spent a few years refusing to agree to this. Afterwards, I have finally found myself in the midst of the process and have relaxed a lot more. After telling this story, I feel like I can tell more stories." By identifying himself as 'insignificant and pessimistic,' Rap Monster has found himself again. Rap Monster actually used to read all of the comments about it and ended up feeling hurt, "When I read comments like 'I don't like him,' or ones that are just thought up in the moment and takes 5 seconds to write, I will think about it for 5 hours and even 5 days. There's no sense to it, but it bothers me when I read each and everyone one. Now for the sake of my health, I don't read all of them. It's how I've been treating those criticisms after releasing my mixtape.” He revealed a smile. Through hard work, Rap Monster and Suga expressed that sometimes they feel that others' views of them are gradually changing. Suga and Rap Monster said, "Some views of us have changed. This change seems to be the difference between being qualified or unqualified. If people don't know us, then there's no need to mention it. But if people listen to our music often and to a certain point, it seems like discussions about us will begin. If while listening and some would say,' Having said that, they are still worth paying attention to,' that would be a very fortunate thing." At the same time Suga said, "No matter what, we are musicians so we wish to be validated through our music. Whether it's rap, music, beat or arrangement, we want to be approved. But even when we get approved, I don't just want to do 1-2 years of music and end. I truly want to do music long-term so even if I don't get recognized in the meantime, I'm not too bothered by it. But one thing I can guarantee is that I can't make everyone like us, but there will be many that listen to our music and go through music activities together." Lastly, Rap Monster and Suga tells everyone again what BTS and their pursuit of hip hop is, "There's nothing we can do if you don't like us. But if you view us with a lenient attitude, we will definitely be better. If not, then forget it. No matter when it is, we just want to give you good music." Source
(Trans) Haru Hana Vol. 30 - BTS Interview
*Japanese original single has a theme of long-distance relationship* In Korea you won #1 on music programs as BTS is gaining momentum. You will also be releasing your 4th Japanese single 'For You' on 6/27. This is the first time you're releasing an original Japanese song as a single. J-Hope: We, BTS, is challenging a new genre that we've never tried before. Rap Monster: Since it's a very Japanese-style song, I really like it. It's impossible to use such a song in Korea as a title song. Even though it's not my choice of music style, I thought I would still try it once. Suga: When I was producing this song and in order to fully understand the views of the song, the members and I watched a Japanese movie with a long-distance relationship theme. After watching the movie, we were able to express even all the Japanese lyrics that we couldn't clearly understand before. As usual, the rap lyrics this time is also written by the members! J-Hope: Yes. In addition to everyday life, we also got a lot of insirpirations from different Japanese works. Rap Monster: I write my lyrics based on actual feelings I've experienced. I tend to feel very happy during the weekends but will turn depressed on the weekdays. I use those feelings as the theme. There's no one lying next to me on the narrow bed so it feels spacious. Because I long for love, I feel lonely - it's that type of content. Suga: It was really difficult for me this time around. I'm usually the type to write [lyrics] according to my own experiences. This time even all of my indirect experiences are incorporated in this. Next time when I produce new songs, I want to be able to go travel and think while organizing my thoughts. I really want to go to new York but even if I can't go to that side, it's okay even if I just bring all my equipment to Jeju-do. Since the theme (of the song) is long-distance relationships, which members can accept long-distance relationships? Jimin: Long-distance relationship... It feels painful just thinking about it. But I don't think Suga hyung would think it's painful. Jin: I think Suga should be OK with it since he's kind of colder/cooler. But on the contrary, it seems like Jimin is the type that wouldn't be able to stand the pain. I think I'm the type that wants to see the other party so bad that I'll cry (laughs). Rap Monster: Because Jimin has not had any real love experience, isn't it good to start with long-distance relationships? If you're always stuck with that person, it would be even more painful when you break up later. I think V is the one that is unable to do long-distance relationships. V: Because I'll want to see the person all the time. I think I'll go crazy even if I don't see the person for just one day. If I have a girlfriend, I just want to watch her all the time. (In Japanese) Only you! Jungkook: I think Suga hyung's the one that can't do long-distance relationships. Not sure why but I've never seen him use Kakaotalk and seems like he doesn't use SMS either. I think Rap Monster hyung would be able to do long-distance relationships? Rap Monster: I've had a similar experience... Even though it was very painful, I think I would still accept it if there's another situation like that. J-Hope: I think Suga hyung would accept it. Jungkook probably won't accept it. He wouldn't even know where he's flying to. The girl would be chased away [by someone else] any time. There are many members that think Suga can be in long-distance relationships! Suga: I also think so myself. I perhaps would like the other person even more if I'm in a relationship with a person on the other side. I can't stand meeting every day. I think it's enough to meet once a month. But it's probably because I haven't thought about love since work is still my priority. *1 year annivesary in Japan! What changes do you have in your impressions of Japan?* You released a new Korean album in April. You also held a concert in Seoul in March. J-Hope: Jimin and I had our own dance stage. I think it let the fans see all of our charms. There was almost no MC talk and just us performing our songs. Rap Monster: We also performed songs we produced during our trainee period. It feels like our "first chapter" is ending. Jungkook: I cried during the last day of our concert. During the last MC Talk, my tears just fell when I saw what my parents said to me. V: Because Jungkook is a crybaby. I didn't cry. Besides in front of family or the members, I won't cry! I think it's embarassing so I hold it in. Jimin: I also didn't cry! But when we were singing 'Born Singer' as it's a very meaningful song to us, I didn't even know when my eyes turned red. Jin hyung was bawling too. Jin: Because many fans came to see us... As to why I cried, I think you'll understand once you step on the stage. Rap Monster: Even Suga hyung cried! Don't say "I'm not going to cry" ever again (laughs). Suga: Huh? Who cried? I don't know what's gong on. I'm cherishing my tears so I can cry at the Gymnastics Arena (a large venue in Seoul). You ate barbecued meat for celebration? Jin: Of course! But for our comeback, we started dieting three months before... It's so depressing to not being able to eat whatever you want. I'm the type to eat to eliminate stress. I used to eat almost 7 meals a day. Speaking of live, the DVD for the concert tour you held in Japan in February is also released. V: First, I was standing in the middle for the opening. Just please pay a lot of attention to me (laughs). Jungkook: I hope everyone will notice the song 'Blanket Kick'. I fooled everyone. I will emerge on the stage from an unexpected place! Also the videos played during the live were very interesting and I had a fun time filming it so everyone must watch it. Jin: Whether it's those who came to our concert or those who couldn't come, I still really hope you can watch our performances. Jimin: I would be very excited if you watch the DVD and then even more people want to come to our concerts. What happened at the venues? J-Hope: ARMYs helped celebrate my birthday in Nagoya! If I knew this would happen, I would prepare in advance my thank you speech in Japanese. I was so surprised that I almost cried. Thank you everyone for celebrating my birthday. I'm really happy. Jungkook: It feels like the cheers there are very loud. Jimin: I know everyone has been waiting for us. From now on we will learn more Japanese so we can convey ourselves to everyone. While I can't do other things, I do think Japanese is very interesting. It's almost your 1st anniversary in Japan. How have your impressions of Japan and the Japanese fans changed? V: Everyone became even prettier. Rap Monster: I don't think much has changed. No matter where we go, Japanese fans are very polite. But it's just that I feel a bit stressed about speaking Japanese when I go to Japan. There should be at least one person in the group that can converse but right now it's still impossible... Other than that, I still feel very relaxed and happy. Jimin: When we initially had activities in Japan, I was able to feel everyone enthusiastically supporting us. I also think nothing has changed. Food is still very delicious. In fact, I want to travel in Japan. Jungkook: I'm happy as long as I'm going to Japan. (Using Japanese) I really like it~. Also I really like Japanese anime, but I'm really surprised that there are girls in real life that can emit the high-pitched voices like in animes. J-Hope: Even though we initially performed at small venues, the venues got bigger and bigger afterwards. Although I do feel stressed, the activities are more fun than expected. That's how my desire to perform started. I don't know how long I have to wait but I really want to perform at the Domes. I have established that goal." This was not translated directly from Japanese so I apologize in advance if there are mistakes. Thank you to BTS Taiwan!
(TRANS) HK Magazine FACE Vol. 420 - Eric in Hong Kong
(Scan credits to crystal612) Seventeen years since their debut, male group Shinhwa's friendship remains unchanged and the fans have not moved on to newer groups. They will have their Nanjing stop of their Asia tour on June 20 and the company has plans to have a Hong Kong show. Of the 6 in Shinhwa, Eric recently is up to something new. He will be releasing his first solo photobook "Eric in Hong Kong". I was very fortunate enough to participate in the production of this photobook, bringing Eric and the photographer to Hong Kong's movie filming sites. Eric's photobook is handled by renowned Korean photographer Park Jung-min. Before their visit to Hong Kong, I've already communicated closely with the producer to understand the theme of the photoshoot. The photobook concept is that of Hong Kong movies so we especially went to many locations that once appeared in many Hong Kong films. Eric stayed in Hong Kong for 5 days and the shoot was done hastily within three days. It was last year at the end of November; not too hot and not too cold so it was very ideal for filming. Eric has watched Wong Kar-wai's movies and unforgettable classics such as "A Better Tomorrow" and "Infernal Affairs". So the first stop is of course the Chungking Mansions and nearby beautiful buildings that have appeared in "Chungking Express". The stylist also spent a lot of time on the outfits, using a darker tone to bring out the Gong Wu movie feel. During filming, the manager even went to a nearby Starbucks to buy coffee for all the staff and driver which was very nice. Surrounded by people while filming at a maze To create a worn-out mood, the producer once planned to find some tong lau (tenement buildings) for the shoot but all of the buildings ended up being too shabby. So in the end, we had to give up that thought. What left the deepest impression for me was the way Eric converses; very gentle and soft. Moreover, he said that he really likes nature. Since the schedule was too tight, we didn't get a chance to explore too much. But I still hoped to fulfill his wish to see the greens so I suggested to film at Bird Park and Kowloon Park. While filming at Bird Park, although the grandpas that own the shops didn't know who Eric was, they were still very willing to let us film inside their booths. At the Kowloon Maze Garden, many people that were just resting there started taking pictures with their phones. Eric and his manager didn't even stop them - full marks for their 'people-skills'. Generously treats with "Infernal Affairs" famous steak We ate with them after the itinerary and what's the most unforgetttable was Eric treated everyone to Ruth's Chris Steak House, which appeared in movie "Infernal Affairs". Their famous steak set dinner is 800HKD (~$100USD) yet Eric enjoyed treating us to reward everyone and to make everyone happy.
(TRANS) Haru*Hana Vol. 30 - BTS Interview
Jin --Don't be so nervous, relax a bit. The things I want to say to my debut self. Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: I'm someone that keeps in touch with my parents often. I usually chat with my mom for about 30 minute to an hour; sometimes even longer for about 2 hours. We just talk about whether we've been well. I talk with my dad about once a week. (Interviewer: Wouldn't your dad feel very lonely?) I have my reasons for that. When I talk to my mom, it's usually during dinner time so the two of them are together. I take that chance to speak to my dad as well. Q2: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: I really like Jordans. Although I also like girls wearing sneakers, it's rare to see them wear Jordans. If a girl wears Jordans, I think she'll look quite strong... Compared to that, I still like girls wearing cute sneakers. Q3: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: When I'm going to eat! No matter how tired and how much I want to sleep, I'll immediately get up once I hear, "let's eat!" Another thing is when our schedule for the day is finished and we're heading home. Q4: What are troubles that you've overcome after debuting? A: I'm originally the type that gets stressed easily. But after debuting, no matter what stress or trouble it is, I'm able to forget it all after the day is over. It's an amazing ability. But there are also bad sides to it... because I also forget about the good things (laughs). Q5: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: I want to say to myself, "It would be nice if you can relax a bit more." Also, "You'll change and grow gradually." Q6: Did your brother also attend your concert in March? A: Yes. It's the first time my brother came to my concert. He said that I looked really handsome. We talk with each other every day and we both care a lot about each other. Suga --So far I've never been bored of making music. Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: We talk everyday for about 2-3 times in a day. Since my dad is a bit older, I call him instead of messaging him. We just talk about how our day went, what happened today etc... Sometimes it's my dad contacting me and sometimes I call him. I think we're the type fo contact each other often. Q2: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: I like Air Jordan 1, 2, 3. I also like girls that wear this type of shoes. But since it's just my own preference, I won't force her to wear it. But if she's wearing a very precious pair of Jordan, I would probably say to her, "you have good taste!" It'll attract my attention. Q3: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: When I'm doing music. Oftentimes I don't feel like dancing but I've never once before felt bored or annoyed at doing music. Q4: What are troubles that you've overcome after debuting? A: In the past I really hoped to be recognized. I will think, "I'm working so hard, why aren't people understanding me?" Now I want to say that as long as you work hard, the result will naturally emerge. Q5: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: I don't quite want to return to that period of time (laughs). It actually wasn't all that joyful during the debut time. There were many things I didn't quite understand but still had to do it so I accumulated a lot of stress. So I want to say to myself, "Don't think too much. Even if you feel very painful right now, it will all change soon so just endure it a bit." Q6: Please tell us about your 4th Korean mini album "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa pt 1." (The interview was done before the album was released.) A: The subject is about "Even if the flower is wilting, it's still the most beautiful time." Right now we are experiencing the most beautiful time of our lives. We produced our album with that kind of thinking. I think it's a turning point now. I personally think a flower is the most beautiful right before it wilts. Before it wilts, it gives off the most beautiful moment. Since it's fully bloomed, it looks the most beautiful so it's hard not to see it (laughs). In other words, we hope to become truly "hwa yang yeon hwa". V --Thanks to ARMYs, I started liking my own shortcomings. Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: I was brought up by my grandma so since I was young, I've started to talk on the phone with my parents twice a day. Since we've been busy lately, we chat about once a day. We just message each other things like "How's it been? What's going on lately?" Also things like, "I just sent something back, be sure to pick it up." I send them clothes, gift certificates, and gifts for my parents from the fans. I'm so thankful that they're even taking care of my parents. Q2: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: I like Prada shoes and Air Jordans. Prada is too expensive so I can't buy them. I feel like I can practice happily if there's a pair of shoes that I like and that the design is good. For girls... sandals? I like girls with pretty feet so actually wearing nothing is even better (laughs). I'm attracted to girls who have clean feet and hands. I don't quite like it when there's too much going on with the nails. Q3: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: I'm usually excited. Especially when I play pranks with the members! Q4: Following "Converse High," what kind of song do you want to do that would reflects yourself? A: "I like barefooted girls." It'll have that topic. The song title wold be "Barehand and barefoot girls". I love barefooted girls! Q5: What are troubles that you've overcome after debuting? A: Ah~ Even though I don't want to let people see this (rolls up left sleeve), I have 2 moles over here (pinches skin). Elephant! (Interviewer: Is that a troublesome thing?) Not exactly something you be proud of. This has been a funny performance of mines since high school. I also don't quite like the mole on my nose but ARMYs seem to really like it so I started liking it. Q6: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: "Next is the road to success, fighting! Kim Taehyung!" I used to think I would become a farmer since I grew up in a village so I didn't really have any friends that had a vision for the future. But before that, I had a friend who got into Korea University. We both are successful people back in the (village) but I'm better (laughs). Rap Monster --I want to collect sneakers. Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: We usually contact each other once a week. I'm not really one that calls someone often so my parents are really happy when I take the initiative to call them. But I don't often make the call first so when I occassionally call them, my mom would go, "you don't have enough money?" (laughs). It makes it seem like I only call them when something comes up. I will definitely regret it if this keeps up. After this interview, I want to call my parents. Q2: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: I like Rick Owens sneakers; they're really cool. It'll be awesome to collect them. For girls, like the lyrics say, I like girls that wear red Converse shoes. It's really cool. Since it shows off the shape of the legs so if the legs are not slender enough, it's hard to make it look good. Although I like it, it's shoes that's hard to master. Q3: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: When I listen to music; it's a time that can lift my mood. Q4: Following "Converse High," what kind of song do you want to do that would reflects yourself? A: Since I like girls with small waists, I want to use the Korean word for waist (pronunciation is similar to 'hurry') and the English word 'hurry' to use as a pun for the song name. "Hurry up!" (laughs). Q5: What are troubles that you've overcome after debuting? A: Honestly at first I was a resistant towards the identity of an idol but that problem is no longer exists now. It takes time to recognize yourself as an idol. Identity is important because there are still people that treat me as an idol. Q6: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: I want to say, "This is the time in life when you're the skinniest!" During debut, I wanted to die from dieting. Compared to that time, my face right now is a bit meatier... Before, I really didn't have much excess fat.. Now I can no longer diet like I did back then (laughs). J-Hope --How to show myself - I've been thinking about this Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: Lately it's the smartphone era so usually we commute through messaging apps. We have a family group chat so we would upload pictures there and go like "Wow~ cool!" Since we don't get to see each other often, usually I'm the one that takes the initiative to call them. When I call them, my father, sister and everyone would talk. Q2: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: I like girls that wear Nike sneakers. Nike shoes girl ~ ♪ Q3: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: When I eat! My mood is very high when I eat~! Q4: What are troubles that you've overcome after debuting? A: I've always been thinking about how I will show myself. How do I show my rap, how can I show my dance to everyone... what must I show everyone on TV programs... Day after day, I think about these. Q5: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: This... I want to say to my debut self "This is only the beginning!" Also, "Everything that you've done so far is only to prepare for debut. From now on, you must continue to move forward!" Q6: What did others around you say to you after your Korea concert in March? A: The juniors I've dance with before bought their own tickets to see me! They said to me, "The money definitely did not go to a waste. I'm so happy." Perhaps they're saying that since they know me, but it's so exciting to hear people say that. I guess from now on, I must work even harder. Jimin --When I'm with the members, I get so excited that I start dancing! Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: We use phones and we just talk about what's going on in life. We don't really use video calling. If it's something urgent then I would send them voice or text messages. Q2: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: Work even harder! There's a lot you're still lacking in! Q3: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: It's probably because I don't quite pay attention to brands so I think it's good as long as it looks cool. Everyone likes Jordans and Timberlands, and I like them too. For shoes I like girls to wear, I think it varies depending on that day. She can show a sexy side when wearing heels; and when we're just going out, then I think it's very charming to wear Converse. Q4: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: When I'm with the members and when we eat. When we're together and if we're playing music we like, everyone would start dancing. During award ceremonies or on the streets when they play our songs... Even when we're in the car, we would shut the doors and start dancing~ 5: When did you have in mind when you debuted in Japan? A: In the beginning I heard that Japanese fans have little reaction at concerts so I was very worried. But it wasn't like that at all! Our ARMYs really gave us great cheers. There's nothing to worry about seeing that scene. Q6: What are troubles that you've overcome after debuting? A: Nothing much has changed in terms of worries. I debuted soon after I became a trainee so compared to the other members, I didn't get enough training?!... I still think that right now. I really need to make up for the deficiencies. Speaking of changes, I was a bit afraid of everything I did when I first debuted. Right now I'm no longer afraid! Jungkook --I'm a bit shy when I do video calling so I don't quite use it. Q1: How do you keep in touch with your family? A: We usually contact each other. But if it's during an activity period, then our contact would be off and on. If I watch an anime or movie related to families, I would remember to call home. We talk about things like "Have you eaten? What are you doing right now?" When I call my dad, he would say, "Call your mom first." My would would nag about things so calling my mom first is priority! I'm a bit shy when I do video calling so I don't quite use it. Q2: With regards to new song "Converse High," what shoes do you like and what shoes do you like girls to wear? A: Boots! Especially Timberland. I like to wear it myself and think it's nice for girls to wear it too. I don't really like high heels. There's also Timberlands for girls~ I think it looks good. 3: What do you want to say to your debut self? A: First off, mad. Hahaha (laughs). Why are you always playing around and not studying... At the same time I would say, "There's a lot of time left so just keep looking ahead. Just keep practicing!" Q4: With regards to new song "Fun Boys," what other times do you feel excited other than being on stage? A: When I wake up after getting enough sleep. It can get crazy when I'm excited. Q5: Please talk about the filming for your new Korean song 'I Need U.' A: We filmed for 4 days 3 nights. We didn't dance in the MV and it was a drama MV. It's my first time acting. Seeing that, I think I have the talent to control my body's reactions? I thought of that (laughs). Q6: What are troubles that you've overcome through activities after debuting? A: It's the complete opposite. I didn't have any troubles when I debuted. I didn't really practice as a trainee and didn't know anything. But after debuting, there are many people that are more amazing and cooler than I am so I started having mixed emotions about my appearance. In regards to my vocals, "Ah~ I can only do up to this level." I started having a lot of troubles and I want to overcome them soon. Many thanks to BTS TW @ FB for the Chinese trans :)

(NEWS TRANS) 150511 Rap Monster disappeared the day before BTS comeback...
The day before BTS comeback, leader Rap Monster was abandoned(?). It is a common belief that if bad things happen during the preparations in the music industry, the new songs will be daebak. In BTS, Rap Monster is considered the one carrying the misfortunes. The day before their comeback and in between the trasition of their schedule, Rap Monster was left behind. After a scheduled event at a certain place, the seven members split into two cars for their next schedule. Everyone thought Rap Monster would be in the other car. Rap Monster said, "It took about 20 seconds before I came out of the bathroom and at that time, both cars drove away. The problem was his phone was also left in the car so there was no way to contact Rap Monster. The members said, "When Rap Monster is in the car, he would always hold on to his phone. But it felt bit strange that Rap Monster wasn't there and just his phone was sitting there. But we didn't think that he didn't even get on either car." At that moment, Rap Monster became a "strange person" as he was asking around to borrow a phone. Rap Monster said, "These days we're no use without our phones. I was strolling around the streets in the early morning trying to ask strangers to let me borrow their phones while some just gave me strange looks. People were staring and it just felt like my face turned hot." He was able to ask the building security ahjusshi to borrow a phone and contacted his manager. Rap Monster laughed and said, "The security ahjusshi wanted an autograph. After I wrote 'Rap Monster,' he requested to write down my name so I wrote my real name 'Kim Namjoon'. BTS' comeback title song 'I Need U' won #1 on cable channel Mnet M Countdown on the 7th. On the 8th, they won their first public broadcast #1 on KBS Music Bank. Source: Edaily
