Not only do you have to deal with Strade but Ren was there first, so of course he'd feel some sort of fucked up superiority complex towards you. He'd treat you like shit, regardless of if he likes you or not.
He'd know he's being a dick, too. He'd misplace your stuff on purpose, blame messes and accidents on you, scrutinize the simplest things that you do to make you feel out of place...just generally, he'd push you around. With how Strade treated him for so long— like he's only submissive which he is definitely not— I can see why he'd get a kick out of finally being the 'bully' and not the 'bullied'.
When Strade's busy with a 'houseguest' is when he really gets to have his fun. Ren is not opposed to petty bribery to get what he wants.
"C'mon. Let me do this to you and I won't tell Strade you're the one who stole his steak from the fridge."
"Take your pants off or I'll rip them off. You know he won't buy you another pair."
"What's worse? what I'm doing to you now, or what Strade'll do to you when he finds out you used my computer to play (insert random game) without asking?"
He knows that he's lying straight through his fucking teeth, too. Not like it'll change anything. You've only been in this house for a few months, you're still very freshly traumatized from Strade.
And, well, yes. Ren can be tender. But it doesn't last long. He's been forced to show his vulnerability enough.
Despite being a complete dickhead, he is willing to help you sometimes, whether it be through painkillers, bandages, small words of comfort, etc. He does know what it's like to be in your place, but he's savoring being in control of you while he can.
Maybe once in a while he'll demand that you bathe with him. He'd face his back towards you and let you wash his hair, and in turn, he'd do the same for you. Maybe after he'll even invite you to cuddle in his bed. But it doesn't last long. Whether it's in the shower or tangled together under his sheets, his hand will end up between your thighs.
And Strade lets him order things too, doesn't he? We all know Ren's into that hentai shit. Now, Strade would never let him put a tentacle dildo in his ass. But with you it's a free game. He doesn't need a 'yes' or a 'no' from you, he'll do whatever the fuck he wants.
Oh, and Strade has noticed this— and in a few instances— even pointed it out. Of course he's invited Ren to his room to 'talk the situation over'. It doesn't really do anything though, besides make Ren's actions the next day infinitely more cruel. Sometimes when Ren tries to tattle on you, Strade'll even tell him to 'take it easy'.
Ren is a complete fucking dickhead though, and that'll never change.
I turned 20 today so now I’m thinking about how your birthday would be one of the few occasions where Strade would actually be genuinely sweet and sort of normal for a whole day.
You might have forgotten with all your days blurring together (courtesy of the chronic mental fatigue that comes with anemia and malnutrition), but after waking up to Strade’s tongue sucking on your clit/cock head and bucking in his grip till you cum, he’ll move up to make you taste yourself kiss you. He’ll laugh at your dazed and puzzled expression before telling you to meet him downstairs after you wake yourself up.
You’ll limp down the steps ten minutes later to the scent of buttered pancakes. He’d spell out your name and HAPPY BIRTHDAY with chocolate chips, and for the first time since he took you in you could taste something other than the tang of blood on your tongue.
Afterwards he’d sit you down in the living room to open your presents, all things you’ve been begging for over the past month, and encourage you to use them right then and there. It doesn’t matter if it’s a video game, makeup, or rolling tray, he’ll sit content to enjoy your expression and ask you how you’re liking it.
He’ll then carry you down the basement stairs, and to your relief, past the pole and into his makeshift office. He’ll ask you to open another present. Lingerie— some pink, frilly thing— and toys. He just wants to film a video to remember this day and share to his viewers.
Hours later, you’re blowing out the candle on the cupcake he brought down for you in your shredded lace. He’ll ask you what you wished for and smile when you say you want to go home. Maybe reading the comments on your new video will cheer you up.
i really wanna know everyone's reason behind their favourite btd/ykmet character/route.
for example: ive seen ppl prefer lawrence over others because he is the one with basically no SA scenes but, in my case, i cannot really handle the quad amputation scenario so i cannot really say im thrilled about him. he's a great character regardless.
however, i really enjoy ren's cuz you have a chance with him (kind of?) not only in the good endings but also in the ones you remain captive. also, cuz he pretty relatable lmao. nonetheless, i really like that he does seem to like us a lot, that's very important to me ok - the ending i dislike the most is the one where he gives lawrence a chance to kill us kkskslls i thought we had something going on ren!

though i played vincent's and i kind of cringed, but it was the one i enjoyed the most.
Seeing Gato’s new designs for Strade’s basement and Lawrence’s apartment inspired me to create my own headcannons for the rest of Strade’s YKMET house. This is based on a combination of the original BTD2 floor plans, house floor plans I found on pinterest, and whatever my brain conjured up while daydreaming.
For each floor I’ll be explaining my changes and thought processes, starting with the basement:
The basement is pretty self-explanatory, so I’ll focus on what’s behind MC and the second door.
During the table saw scene in YKMET, you can see the edges of something metallic and something wooden. My best guess was that those are the freezer and some additional cabinets, maybe storing his recording equipment.
I considered adding his pottery kiln (Gato confirmed that’s how Strade disposes his victims), but I couldn’t find space for it and I thought that having a kiln (very hot) next to a freezer (very cold) would be impractical. She didn’t include a pottery kiln in her official floor plan either, so I assume that he owns another property where it’s located. Perhaps he uses the table saw to dismember his victims before transporting them.
The bathroom is similar to the one in her plans, but I changed the layout a bit and added a storage cabinet for either cleaning products or additional medical supplies for when he accidentally goes too far.
The first floor is where I had the most fun and creative freedom with. I really liked how the collar would send a warning shock when you entered the foyer in BTD2, so I extended those red zones to all exits and the entire front of the house to create further isolation. This prevents Ren and MC from:
banging on windows to get a neighbor’s attention,
going through Strade’s garage tools and messing with his car, and
sabotaging his work for his engineering job (hard to believe this man occasionally makes money legally).
More on his office: I believe Strade would be more involved with his legal work than most people believe/what is implied, and that most of his work is done remotely. He would have a work-provided computer (separate from his dark web work ofc) and floor-to-ceiling cabinets full of documents and plans.
I placed his office and garage at the front of the house and relocated the basement entrance furthest away from the front door as possible. The symbolism was intentional. I wanted his house to reflect how his hardworking and neighborly persona hides his sadism and crimes. If you read my previous imagine about Strade’s garage workshop, that applies here, too.
I kept the upstairs similar to cannon (bedroom-wise at least). I gave Strade a walk-in closet and bathroom since those are things that primary bedrooms have and I just can’t imagine poor Ren sharing a toilet with him.
His closet would actually be pretty full with high-quality practical clothes and a few formal outfits he had tailored to be as comfortable as possible (even so, he still dreads dressing formal). In the corner he’s kept some pieces too bloodstained to wear out, but too memorable to dispose of. He has memorabilia from favored victims, too, and he gets a sense of nostalgia whenever he makes Ren and MC wear them.
For Ren’s bedroom, I think YKMET Ren would be a little tidier than BTD Ren. He’s more vocal about bathing, and I assume that most of the mess seen in his BTD2 room was a result of his mental health slipping after Strade’s death. He’s still a teenage guy though, so he sleeps on a mattress on the floor and has an entire shelf of manga and thousands of dollars worth of gooner anime figures that were totally not awkward to ask for at all.
Ren spends most of his time in his room pretending that he’s somewhere else. Strade built him a custom-built PC that he’s genuinely thankful for, and hasn’t pirated a game, manga, or movie since Strade started offering to provide them for him (as long as he’s willing to face some psychological-prying and teasing first). He also owns a collection of consoles that he cycles between regularly for the best gameplay for whatever new game Strade buys him.
The biggest additions to the upstairs are MC’s bedroom (kept bare for self/OC-insertion purposes) and a bonus room that’s used as a movie/gaming room, which is the only front-facing room with windows that Ren and MC can enter. It’s more of a privilege that Strade trusts Ren and MC to act responsibly and non-incriminatingly with, but the blinds are always drawn shut and there is a hidden camera somewhere. Any attempt to draw a neighbor’s attention is immediately punished with time in the basement; no exceptions.
Overall, there aren’t many front-facing windows as most of the living space is concentrated at the back of the house. Gato’s original concept didn’t include many windows, either I wanted to preserve more elements of her design, and it also happened to match my aforementioned symbolism. Eyes are the windows to the soul, after all.
