Backstory
Lars grew up in a unstable and neglectful environment with his single parent dad. He never met his mother; his father telling him she just left and never came back. Both parents are from Europe (his mom from Germany and his dad from Russia) but Lars was born and raised in Canada. He never learned either of those languages.
He would often get in trouble by fighting off other students that were trying to bully him or his friends and quickly turn to fighting sports when he was able to pay for classes towards the end of high school. Boxing was what really grabbed his attention and continued on until his early 20s. At that point, he started competing and was looking into becoming a massage therapist for athletes for when he had to retire eventually. He thought he had it all figured out.
Growing up, he had two best friends Trygve (left) and Soo Jung (right).
Post
Trygve was Lars' childhood best friend. They met because they were neighbors before they even attended school together. Lars is 1 year older.
They met Soo Jung at the beginning of high school. Him and Trygve were in the same class. They quickly realized Soo Jung's living conditions were very poor so they would often invite him to their place and they quickly bonded.
As soon as they could, him and Lars moved out of their parent's home and became roommates. Trygve joined them a few years later when he started his internship while studying to be an engineer.
Lars was kind of their guard dog lol and the other two usually try their best to prevent him from getting into fights.
Trygve was smaller and weaker as a child, making him an easy target at school. Lars was always quick to fight back. It was one of the first and few advice his dad gave him.
Trygve would help Lars back with homeworks and studying. They completed each other's strengths and weaknesses on many aspects as they grew older.
When Lars started to box, Trygve started to help by holding punching bags. Slowly, he started to come to the gym too, learning how to hold the mitts and doing reps with him. Trygve was kinda forced to get into boxing by Lars' coach because of his build, though he made it clear he was not interested in competing.
Both of them developed a crush on each other, but neither of them ever talked about it. They were both scared of changing the bond they had as friends.
During his boxing days, he was at his peak physic. He was confident in his skills, without being too cocky (just enough). People would say that, before getting in the ring, Lars would look calmed and collected. But once he stepped in, it was like a beast was unleashed. Unlucky were those who underestimated him because of his size.
He made unforgettable connections through boxing. He still thinks of this time as his best years
Post 1
His first girlfriend
It all changed after Lars and his two best friends got into a hiking accident. They decided to explore an undisclosed path and got where the terrains were too dangerous to go. Lars was leading the group and didnt noticed, slipping and breaking his knee in the fall. In an attempt to join the injured, his two friends rushed to helped him, making the ground even more unstable. They ended up both falling down to their death.
Lars didnt quite recover from the knee injury he sustained that day; He walks with a slight limp sometimes. However, the guilt from being the only survivor is what's really been eating him up from the inside. He pushed any support away and quit anything related to his old life, never picking up boxing again.
After the hiking accident, Lars shut down for a good while... A freeze response. He would sleep a lot and isolate himself, barely getting out of bed or eat. He lost most of his body mass at that moment.
Post
After that the flight response kicked in lol. He kept himself busy with work or going out/staying out of his place as much as possible, tho not necessarily with friends. He pushed people away and tried anything to numb himself.
In short Lars doesnt know how to cope in a healthy way lol He thinks he's good at moving on, but really, he's just a professional represser. Walls upon walls upon walls...
No matter how much Lars was numbing or overworking himself, nothing seemed to help. The years blended together until his body almost gave out. He got a slight wake up call at that point and tried to take better care of himself.
The last year he was in his hometown, he was working at his aunt's restaurant as an assistant cook. He was surprised to find an interest in the craft enough to take classes outside of work.
However, recovery is not linear, and soon, Lars could feel it was getting bad again. He wanted to look forward, but any time the past showed its nose, he had a hard time not to drown in it.
So he decided to move out of town, even changing province to make sure he knew no one there; a clean slate. He barely told anyone he was leaving (trying to escape an ex *wip*)
Post
Starting anew, Lars found a part-time job at a café close to his new appartement. One night, he was unpacking a box full of old photos and memories he couldn't let go. Overwhelmed with emotions, he decided to go out at the first bar he saw.
Maybe Strade noticed the slight limp as Lars walked passed him or maybe it was the blank expression on his face as he absently ordered a beer. Whatever it was, Strade didn't hesitate to join Lars when the latter finished his first beer, ordering another one right after.
Lars wasn't really the chatty type, but he knew how to make others talk so he didn't have to. And Strade easily filled the conversation for them both.
The rest was a blur. Since he barely ate that day, the second beer was already making him dizzy. The numbing feeling was addicting and he accepted another drink. And another... until he lost count.
He barely remembers leaving the bar. Next thing he knew he was pressed against a brick wall being tied up. Did he just bit Strade? What's for sure is that he was trapped, blindfolded and gagged in a car trunk. He cursed himself, embarrassed to have gotten caught so easily.
