Hello! So somehow I've ended up with your story, Camp Tako, in my google documents, and I'm not sure how. I've never heard of your story, so I don't really know how this has happened but apparently it's there haha. It says I can edit it and everything, which is weird, right? Well, I went back and read False Starts and Second Guesses again for the 3rd time this year. (Yes I have an exam tomorrow but that's not the point.) I gravitate towards your writing everytime I need to engross myself into something that makes me feel. Whenever I think the world isn't giving me enough emotion, I re-read your fics and FSASG is by far my biggest favourite among all your gems. It just feels so real. Thank you, for giving me sentences that have me giggling in the middle of the night.
I just accidentally navigated to yootoobfanfiction instead of yotoobfiction and encountered a whole lot of nothing, which sent me into a bit of a panic thinking your writing tumblr had disappeared. I realized my mistake, and I just wanted you to know how I much I love visiting your old stories.

I’m sorry that it is going to be left uncompleted. The basic conclusion was going to be ‘and Grace and Hannah live happily ever after’. You’ll have to fill in the blanks yourself.

Theoretically, since there seems to be no life form on Mars right now, and we have sent robots to transmit information to us, that implies that 100% of Mars’ current population consists out of robots.
We have a planet in our universe that’s solely inhabited by robots. Mars is a robot planet.
This is chapter three of the joint fic Jay and I are writing. Based on the notion of youtubers being superheros.

Chapter Three
The following night, Hannah and Grace climb a building.
It’s an abandoned warehouse, by all accounts, and it isn’t exactly tall, but something about climbing an unfamiliar building is far more tiring that climbing one they know well. The handholds feel less obvious, and Grace’s nerves twang when a drain pipe lurches suddenly under her grip, before settling itself into a new, slightly altered, position.
Hannah reaches the top of the building first, obviously. Grace can run fast, she’s naturally athletic, and throughout her adolescence Grace was re-tested a few times for hyper speed. Eventually an official had concluded that a sixteen year old Grace only just fell outside the category criteria limits, but he’d glared at Grace nonetheless, as though Grace was deliberately trying to hide her skills.
The government’s desire to keep tabs on people with hyper abilities is as thorough as it is unsettling.
But Hannah can do everything fast. It’s not just athletic ability - put her in a critical situation and Hannah could do a jigsaw at hyper speed. Hannah always describes it to Grace as an extra gear that she can hit, though she doesn’t do it often. There’s this unspoken agreement that they only really use hyper abilities when on a case. It helps maintain a divide between the hero role and the rest of their lives.
It means that Hannah always gets to places first; always gets to situations first. Grace doesn’t like it, but then Hannah is not going to dawdle her way into an emergency. Grace can only try to keep up, and hope that her hyper anticipation will tell her if Hannah is about to hyper speed her way into extreme danger.
Everything is a little fucked up, really. Best to not think too hard about it.
Grace grips onto the roof ledge, and Hannah is there, ready to pull her up.
“Hey - I’ve already had a look around. It’s clear; and it is a reasonable vantage point.”
Dusting herself down, Grace gazes around at the horizon. The sun set a long time ago, but this city doesn’t get darker at night, only the direction the light comes from seems to change. The street light from below casts a half illumination, and the shadows on Hannah’s face are unexpected and familiar, at the same time.
There’s not a bad view of their surrounding from up here. Grace is reminded of their early days in Akron, and their endless hunt for vantage points in the city centre. When they first started out, the only way to create a name for themselves was to find a crime for themselves, and dash in to save the day. It was a long year of night shifts on top of buildings, watching the streets below, before they had developed the necessary contacts to mean that they could rely on most of the work coming via recommendations.
They got their hero outfits on now, though underneath sweatpants and hoodies, and their masks are screwed up in their pockets. They aren’t really expecting to find a job tonight. This is about location.
“This has potential, I guess… although I think that one is probably better.”
With this, Grace points at another nearby building - it is several stories taller and a few blocks further over towards the area of LA that reportedly has the highest crime rate. Hannah turns to look, and nods, hands on hips.
“Yeah, I agree… although that one also feels really obvious, you know? That’s prime hero territory. I didn’t want to step on any toes - we’re trying to break into a pretty saturated market, and I thought we didn’t want to run into any competition just yet. I doubt they’d be all that welcoming.”
Grace shrugs, and looks back down over the edge, before pacing over the the building corner, to check the range of sight lines.
“This is pretty good though - and hopefully people in LA have the good sense to scream loudly.”
Hannah nods, and then says “I figure everyone in this country has heard about the screaming loudly thing - there’ll always be someone looking to do a bit of heroing.”
“Still not a verb, Han.”
“Language is a human construct Grace, I can do what I want… hey, come sit down.”
When Grace turns around, Hannah’s already sitting crosslegged on the surface of the roof, and the backpack that she had insisted was ‘vital’ turns out to contain a couple of beers.
“Oh.” Grace pauses for a moment, and then manages to relax her intensity a number of notches. “Yeah, yeah that sounds good. God, it’s like I have a Pavlovian response to rooftops.”
Hannah grins. ‘Filled with a need to kick a bad guy’s butt?”
Grace laughs, at takes the proffered beer.
“Something like that. And this roof isn’t the scummiest we’ve been spent an evening on.”
Hannah pulls up the hood on her hoodie, and then abruptly lies down. “Good”, she says.

When Grace was fourteen she had received an official letter in the post indicating that from henceforth she was prohibited from participating in gym class at school.
She’d yelled at her mom, even though she knew it wasn’t her mom’s fault. This was her third official warning for infractions over the hyper ability guidelines, and Grace had completely ignored the first two.
“I’ll just ignore them! Mom they can’t make me, I love gym class, and I’m gonna be selected for the track team next year! I’m not cheating on hyper, I’m just good.”
Her mom had sighed, and blinked multiple times, like she does when trying not to cry.
“I know sweetie - it’s just that they don’t know that. And they don’t want your skills going to your head, or you gaining unnecessary attention. People with hyper skills-“
“Have to be discreet in order to protect themselves from unwanted attention, yeah mom, I know the official line, but everyone at school knows I’m really good at running, it’ll look weird if I don’t, they’ll ask questions-“
“Grace… this letter says they’re going to send an official medical report confirming that you have a condition with your joints which means you dislocate bones really easily. The school won’t be allowed to let you compete.”
Grace had stopped for a moment, utterly startled.
“But…but that’s a lie. They can’t lie about me. You have to tell them no Mom, they can’t do this.”
Grace’s mom had folded the letter up again carefully, breathing out heavily through her nose.
“It’s… it’s for your own good Gracie. Your dad and I, we just want you to have as normal a life as possible…”
“How is banning me from gym class normal?”
Her mom hadn’t said anything for a long moment, and then closed her eyes, looking resigned.
Grace had burst into tears.

There are stars up there somewhere, Hannah thinks. Struggling against the light pollution - Hannah can make out a couple of points of light, but other than that it is just an enormous swath of darkness above her, unsettling in its absolute nature.
“Do you ever think about aliens?”
Grace snorts abruptly next to her, which is fair, because Hannah has just broken a comfortable ten minute silence on top of a roof with a question about extra-terrestrial life.
“Not as much as you probably do.”
Hannah grins, and then sits herself up, glancing at Grace. “That’s probably true - I do think about them a lot. Okay - rephrase. Do you ever feel like an alien?”
Grace takes what looks like to be the final few gulps of her beer, and then squashes the can in her fist. “What, like an outsider? Or the robots on Mars scenario?”
Hannah just waits, because not all of Grace’s jokes are meant as actual jokes to be laughed at, but rather just a comment to buy her some processing time. After a moment, Grace carries on.
“I guess so. I mean, just a normal percent of time. I feel like an outsider…ninety nine percent of the time. The other one percent I’m totally cool and chill.”
Hannah looks around the horizon, taking in the unfamiliar landscape.
“I think it is going to be worse for a while. The disassociation. Until we’ve settled in here.”
“We knew that. We talked about that. It was one of the risks of moving out here - the isolation would sky rocket again.”
“I don’t much like living it though - we need to do normal stuff. Make some friends, something. Just to avoid complete detachment from the rest of humanity.”
Grace doesn't say anything for a while, and Hannah tries her best not to betray her anxiety, even as her finger fidget nervously with the pull tab on her beer can.
“You sound like Agent Brown - he was always referring to the dangers of disconnecting with the community.”
Brown was the case worker that Hannah and Grace had been referred to in their late teenage years - he’d had moustache and a desire to know everything about their lives. Meeting Agent Brown had also been the day that it became apparent that the government was basically spying on them.
He’d used phrases like ‘disassociation’ when discussing what happens when people with ‘your sorts of abilities make the wrong choices.’ And then questioned them for over an hour about why they had both joined martial arts clubs.
Three years ago the Federal Court had decided that using hyper abilities ‘in a manner contravening the public’s right to live a life free from fear’ could receive harsher punishments than standard crimes. The phrasing allows for a very flexible interpretation of the law, and Hannah has no desire to ever find herself on the wrong side of an unfriendly judge.
It was widely seen as a move to counter the trend amongst people with hyper abilities to go down the ‘hero’ route. As one senator had said, “thinking of yourself as a hero is just one step away from thinking of yourself as a god, and we all know where that leads.”
Hannah didn’t know exactly where it lead, but it was the first time when she had felt that maybe all of their good work in fighting crime wasn’t as unanimously welcomed as she had first thought.
She’s been silent for slightly too long, she realizes.
“I’m fine, I am fine. Just, I don't know… in a weird mood. And I was thinking, on the way up, in Akron fighting the bad guys was easy, because my family was out there somewhere, and it was about protecting them, ultimately. Here there’s… no-one. No-one that I feel that strongly about. So where is the motivation?”
Grace observes her for a moment, and then says “You think too much - maybe you are an alien.”
Hannah laughs, and suddenly all the tension is gone.
“Oh yeah - I sometimes wonder whether hyper over-analysis is a thing.”
“New potential hero name - Neurotic Girl.”
Hannah’s got nothing for that, and suddenly Grace is standing up, as if she has decided that this has been too much rooftop drinking for an evening. She reaches down a hand, and Hannah pulls herself up gratefully.
“Anyway, it’s an easy solution - me. I’m here. You can fight crime to protect me.”
Hannah looks her up and down, critically.
“Sure, only problem is I’ve seen you take down a room containing ten dangerous criminals in the space of the intro to Crazy in Love, so you’ll excuse me for thinking that you don’t need much protection.”
Grace gazes off into the distance briefly, as though reminiscing.
“That was a weird day… and beside, what if there had been eleven? Then I’d have been screwed.”
…
When fourteen year old Grace had called Hannah, and told her that she’d be banned from gym class and how everything was now going to suck forever, Hannah had been really quiet. Grace had filled the silence with some sniffles.
And then Hannah had said “Cut school tomorrow. Meet me at the Wendy’s in town. The one nearest your bus depot. There’s something I wanna show you.”
“Hannah, I can’t cut school-“
“Just this once - it’s important. Bring some sneakers.”
…
Grace wears her sneakers.
The important thing had taken them on another bus, away from the centre of their district. The neighborhood didn’t look all that good anymore, and Grace was nervous. But Hannah didn’t seem nervous, and told her that everything was fine, and there weren’t many people in the world that fourteen year old Grace trusted more than thirteen year old Hannah.
After the bus, there was a walk of about ten minutes, into an increasingly scary neighborhood, and then Hannah had pulled up a loose corner of a corrugated iron fence, and motioned for Grace to go through.
“Hannah, what-“
“It’s okay - it doesn’t belong to anyone anymore.”
‘It’, had turned out to be an abandoned track, with some pretty big bleachers surrounding encircling the sidelines. Hannah had ambled up to the sidelines, and then sat abruptly on a bench.
“It used to belong to a school across the street, but then the school got closed because of falling numbers, and everyone seemed to forget about this place.”
Grace had looked around at the crumbling bleachers, and the weeds growing up through the track surface. Hannah looked shy all of a sudden, and then shrugged.
“I found it a couple of years ago… my mom yells at me whenever I run fast, you know. Whenever I hyper. I think she’s got some of her neighbor friends watching me too. So I come here. I practice here.”
“Practice?”
“Yeah, practice- I’ve been reading up on what we’ve got. People can improve their skills, or if they don’t practice the hyper stuff can fade out when we get to adulthood. And like, for you, you can practice the anticipation thing anywhere I guess. But I can’t practice speed if mom is going to yell at me all the time.”
Grace sits next to Hannah, suddenly intrigued.
“How often do you come here?”
“A couple of times a week - It’s sort of on my bus route home from school. Then I practice for half an hour, and then I can still get back before mom comes home from work. And I’ve never seen anyone here, so we won’t get caught.”
Grace is silent for a while, and then Hannah speaks again.
“Do you ever feel like you have got so much stuff inside you that you just have to explode to let it out? Like, all the secrets about our skills, and …things. If I come and run here, my chest doesn’t feel so full.”
Grace smiles, and says “I don’t think that should make any sense, but it kind of does.” Hannah shrugs, dipping her head down and opening her backpack. She pulls out a pair of running shoes, and kicks off her chucks.
“Well, I thought, you know, I know you don’t have hyper speed, but if you wanted to come here and let out some energy sometimes, do some running or whatever, I don’t mind sharing with you.”
This was nothing like the track at school, and the potential of the track team, and the crowds in the bleachers, cheering her on. But, maybe, it would have to be enough.
“So, you still think you are faster than me, huh?”
Hannah smirks at her. “No, I know I am.”
“Ah, yeah, but I might have just been holding back, you know? Just so you didn’t feel bad about your hyper abilities being crushed by my natural athletic skills.”
“Okay, so that really isn’t true, you haven’t seen me at full speed ever I don’t think, so you really don’t want to be-“
Suddenly, Grace gets a wave of anticipation, and she knows that Hannah is about to suggest a race to the other side of the track and back. And Hannah hasn’t got her running shoes on yet.
“Bye Hannah.”
“-challenging me to a - wait- Grace that’s not fair!”
Grace is laughing as she runs, and it feels good.

Chapter Two
“So, how do you like it?”
There’s a certain something in Grace’s voice that tells Hannah that she doesn’t like it very much herself. Positive thoughts. Be positive. She steps further into what she assumes is a living room area, before turning around to face her taller friend.
“I like it.” She states, “I do. I mean, it’s not the biggest, but that’s not that bad, is it?” Hannah looks around, “It looks good enough to me. I mean, it’s clean, and we each got a bedroom so you can get away from me if you want to, and it’s not like we’ll be in here much anyway, right?” She tries, “It’s close to central LA, Grace.” She adds, “It’s a good place.”
“I guess.” Grace gestures at two doors down the hallway, “Which bedroom do you want?”
“Oh, come on,” Hannah shakes her head as she picks up a box labelled ‘kitchen’, “We both know you want the big one.”
“Well, I am taller than you. And older.” Grace retorts as if it makes sense, before she too picks up a box, “I’ll rock paper scissor you for it though, if you like.”
Hannah gives her a ‘are you kidding me’ look before shaking her head.
“Nah, it’s alright, you take it.” Hannah shrugs, “I like the smaller one best anyway. Cosy, huge windows, good view of the city, I think I’ll set up my desk right next to it, just to be sure.”
Grace snorts, and Hannah puts down the box on the kitchen counter before turning to the other blonde. It’s a weird sight to see Grace dressed normally, without the figure-hugging latex outfits the blonde had come up with one day because ‘it looked professional’. Grace wearing just an oversized sweater and some jeans almost make her look normal. Almost.
