i know i'm reblogging myself again but that first gif has me spinning. the way lilia words it sounds like agatha hunted down her coven and, you know, broke into their houses and killed them in their beds but looked into the cradle and went 'hmm, you can live.' it sounds extremely deliberate and extremely serial killer. this is the legend of agatha harkness, which all witches know and believe.

but we SAW the flashback. we SAW agatha react in self-defense at her own execution. and none of the coven's kids were there. agatha didn't go out looking to kill those witches. and she certainly didn't then want to hunt down their children - and i mean, how could she? after just living through her mother's betrayal, would she really then go out and wreak vengeance on innocent witch children? i kinda think not!

but crucially, agatha comes in and she doesn't defend herself or qualify anything or object at all to the framing. she leans in. because what is the point in trying to push back against the legend and the way it has been mutated? and that legend is helpful to her - it keeps people away. and frankly, some part of her believes what her mother says later - that she is intrinsically evil. so why argue with how people see her? it's not gonna change anything. why bother? use it. and don't ever let people see that the core of the legend is a hurt young girl reacting instinctively to save herself.
