Frankenstein 2025 resonated with me so much as an autistic rainbow baby and I need to discuss it lol

Victor's amazement at the monster's existence is so like my parents in the fact that in all laws of nature I shouldn't have come to be. My mother has Factor V Leiden and had to take shots everyday to be able to carry to term and then nearly died in surgery where I was born via caesarean section. The sheer happiness of having the child they idealised for so long was so much like the disbelieving ecstasy Victor showed upon seeing the monster.

Then the shock and amazement at early developments. The monster saying 'Victor' at such a 'young' 'age' reminded me of how I began reading at 1, how I progressed academically at such a quick pace. Then came the stand still. Victor becomes infuriated with the monster when, despite the leaps and bounds he has already come, his progress seems to come to a halt. This felt so similar to my own parents when I struggled with severe burnout in secondary school. All my rapid academic growth seemingly squandered in their eyes despite the fact I couldn't help it. The blame and the frustration pushed onto the monster despite his blatant efforts to defy his own natural limits and boundaries at the time struck such a chord with me. Both Victor and my own parents came to the crushing realisation that their creation was not the perfect specimen they expected or longed for.

As a very high masking girl, I was never particularly suspected of autism so all the things I did that people deemed weird or the things I found (or still find) myself unable to do people chalked up to incompetence or choosing to be awkward. The way I learn has never been considered in a classroom environment because the education system is inherently ableist (but that's something to get into another time lol.) Elizabeth taking the time to understand the monster and attempt to show him new ways of learning was something I yearned for for such a long time and, sometimes, still do. This understanding could have changed the trajectory of my life for the better, as it could've done for the monster too.

Victor's confusion at the monster being able to speak later on, once he had moved to a less hostile environment, where he was not imprisoned felt like me moving on to college. Secondary school was like my own personal hell and made me deteriorate as a person, college has allowed me freedom and that has allowed me to progress in leaps and bounds with a fraction of the effort it would've taken before. This has greatly confused my parents and irritated my father as he appears to see this as I was not trying before and therefore am undeserving of certain opportunities or reputations.

Anyways that might all be just self-projection lol but it hit me hard when I watched it

The very best thing about The Phantom of the Opera is that it shows us a possibly supernatural occurrence, then gives us a natural explanation that is infinitely crazier than the supernatural one would have been.

What if there was a ghost in the opera house that was killing people?

Requires you to accept the existence of ghosts, but otherwise is a straightforward story.

What if the chief contractor who built the opera house was a deformed circus freak who used his experience building palaces and torture chambers for sultans to keep building secret passageways and torture chambers in the basement when construction halted during the Franco-Prussian War, and then kept living down there working on an opera and killing and blackmailing people who crossed him and also training a pretty opera singer that he wants to marry?

There is nothing in the world that could have prepared me to expect even half of that.
