The Setting
The Archivist failed to save anybody. At the penultimate moment, a breath of hesitation led to the collapse of our world and a rewritten history carefully constructed by the Fears. The Powers picked up their mortal play things like chess pieces and rearranged them on the board, eager to watch how events played out a second time, under different parameters with different stakes.
Ends were unwritten, Spirals uncoiled, Strangers made known again. Mortals are pliable, after all, and their minds are such fragile, malleable things. Perhaps the cycle can last indefinitely... and We can relive their horrors again and again. A veritable feast of endless delights.
In this new reality, the OIAR has always been operated at night out of the basement of the Magnus Institute. Though the OIAR is conducted and managed by the government, their operations have some crossover and involvement with the Magnus Institute, and the employees of the Magnus Institute Research Department and the Archive Team often come to the OIAR to collect further information and cross-reference cases... though they don't fully comprehend the OIAR's function.
However, there are whispers that some things are... inconsistent. The stories the employees tell one another don't always match up. Members of the OIAR remember a Magnus Institute in Manchester, but that makes no sense as they sit in the bowels of the location in London. The only location that ever existed... surely... surely...
The Story So Far
A mysterious app, simply called "HERE" has not only installed itself on the phone of every Institute employee, but also a collection of random others who may or may not have a shared connection. Even those who previously had no cellphone seem to have been gifted one by mysterious means. Trepidation has left some skeptical, but its hard to completely ignore the allure of connection so easily at one's fingertips. Despite the best efforts of the O.I.A.R and Institute staff, nobody has been able to figure out where HERE came from. By conversing with the elusive and frustrating ADMIN, they have determined that the app was developed in the year 2000 with sourcecode written by an entity that the ADMIN will only refer to as TOP4129. It is unclear if this is an individual or a group of people. One thing is clear, however: the ADMIN and TOP4192 shared a very close relationship, and emotion was the cause of a "catastrophic failure" in the past...
Conducting the Storyline
YOU ARE HERE :) is a The Magnus Archives and The Magnus Protocol crossover RP taking place in the year 2018, starting roughly at the beginning of Season 4 of TMA.
Events that happened in the podcast may have not yet come to pass, or may have happened oddly out of order. We will be playing losely with the canon timeline. Character deaths and influences by the Fears may be unwritten. Please yes-and your fellow writers.
Because our plot line involves canonical inconsistencies in the time line, please play into your character's memories perhaps not properly matching actual events. This way, everyone gets to play what they'd like, and there should be easy workarounds for confusion and what is considered "canon". Maybe Jon remembers Jurgen Leitner's murder, but Tim remembers him as having always worked for the Institute's library. Sometimes the mind plays tricks... especially when there are Fears about.
