On the 9th Day
And on the 9th day
God looked down on his planned paradise and said,
“I need a controller”, so God made a banker.
God said “I need someone willing to get up before dawn,
Look at stock quotes, manipulate records,
Work all day in their oversized office, manipulate records again,
Eat supper, then go downtown and stay past midnight at a meeting of board executives
On how to get larger profit margins.”
So God made a banker.
God said “I need somebody willing to stay up all night with a newborn financial institution,
And watch it die, and dry his eyes and say maybe next year.”
“I need somebody who can exploit an economy from one computer,
Make decisions regarding money without understanding it,
Who, can make profits out of no goods or services rendered on the backs of others,
Who, at planting time and harvest season will make millions of dollars by Tuesday at noon without breaking a sweat.”
Then pain’n from “carpal tunnel” will put in another 72 hours
So God made a banker.
God said “I need somebody strong enough to double click on the mouse, lift a portfolio,
yet sly enough to buy politicians and wean investigators off cases against them,
who will stop his high performance vehicle motor for an hour to block global markets from emerging.”
So God made a banker.
It had to be somebody who would lie straight to your face, and cut all corners,
Somebody to merge and purge, steal and cheat, and buy and sell and fire and corrupt and hoard the cash, and ignore the facts.
Somebody who would bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of affluence.
Who’d laugh and then sigh and then reply with smiling eyes when his son says that he wants to spend his life “doing what dad does.”
So God made a Banker.
