“Donny’s got this idea in his head that he want to marry you and then afterward everything would be easier.” (Welcomed-home)
Rose flushed at this knowledge, two distinct emotions welling inside her: happiness and dread. Dread because of the look on Michael's face as he said it, as soon as she smiled, it faded into a frown at his expression.
"Marry me? Why would that be so bad."
@welcomed-home
“Rose do you hear yourself? You’re the one who’s always saying that’s the exact kind of life you didn’t want.” Michael had always this for his sister, though, for her to settle down. Why was the idea of her marrying Donny so upsetting to him?”
"I know!" She exclaimed in an exasperated tone waving around the towel she had been folding. "But... we don't have to be exactly like everyone else. We can still make our own path together. We get along real well Michael, and he's your best friend!" She added pointedly with a small grin.

"Out of all my sister in laws, your wife annoys me the most." ( youdeservethiss )
“She’s a wondefulr woman, Rosie. You two just don’t see eye to eye, have different values. Besides, I know you don’t mean that.” Michael smirked. “Even I don’t have something nice to say about Benny’s second wife. “Please, Rose, it’s just one evening.”
Rose sighed and folded her arms. "I try I really do but every conversation I have with her is like nails on a chalkboard. She's almost too nice, and eye contact with her is painfull. I'm sorry Mikey! We just don't get along very well."
"Misery loves company I hear," Rose smiled running her hand across the back of Donny's chair as she came to sit down next to him. "How are you? It's been a while since last you come to see me." ( @youdeservethiss )
“I’ve been…alright I suppose. Tired mostly.” Donny says. He blinks away the exhaustion from his eyes and watches the pretty blonde. He wants to reach out and touch her but..something makes him stop. How bout you?”
“That’s understandable,” she shrugged crossing her legs and smoothing out her skirts a bit. “All the Soldiers deserve a little more sleep then the rest of us.”
She sat back and watched him for a moment before leaning forward and taking the glass out of his hand, taking a sip of it herself. Strong wiskey. It made her stomach warm.
“Yeah, if I were getting any.” He says, tiredly rubbing at his head. “Alcohol helps a little.”
He closes his eyes for a moment, and he can feel himself sinking, so he opens his eyes, before it gets any worse.
“Hey,” she said leaning forward to grab his hand. “Look at me.”
She set the glass down and kissed the back of his hand gently. He was always like this, she would make him feel better if she could.
He lifts his head to look at her. He sees nothing but concern. “I’m fine, Promise.” He says trying to smile. All he can manage is a slight twitch.
So he steals his glass back and downs the rest in one gulp.
"Alright, if you say so." She smirked gently and leaned back in her seat propping her red heels up on his chair. "Where have you been these past weeks? I missed you. Thought maybe you had moved."

“ tell me, what happened?” ( youdeservethiss )

“I’d rather not,” Donny said, waving her off. “Long story. Pretty messy one, too.”
youdeservethiss:
“Mhm,” she agreed gently wrapping her hand around the crook of his arm and standing close to him.
It was a warm summer night and Rose sucked in a deep breath as they walked outside. It was quiet evening despite it being the weekend, even though all the men had come home, things still didn’t seem to be like before.
“It sure is nice to have all the men back. I can finally ask someone to carry my groceries for me. Not to mention more handsome dates.” She teased bumping him sligtly with her shoulder.
He chuckled, his eyes darting to the ground. “You’re very kind,” he replied, “but I’d say I’m the luckier of us. I snagged someone way outta my league. I couldn’t tell ya how.”
He smiled at her. They were both pragmatic, honest people. Donny could use more honesty from civilians. He turned back to their path and said, “Nice night, isn’t it?”
Rose ran her hand down his arm gently and leaned her head against his shoulder. "It is, if you listen closely you can hear the crickets."
She stopped him for a moment and listened quietly to the chirp coming from the bushes. Then a car drove by and muffled the noise. A smile spread across her face.
“ tell me, what happened?” ( youdeservethiss )

“I’d rather not,” Donny said, waving her off. “Long story. Pretty messy one, too.”
youdeservethiss:
Rose rested her chin on her hand, stifling another yawn. It wasn’t that she was tired, it was being around him was easy, made her relax. She was often on alert, always making sure she knew where the exits were if she needed to make a quick escape.
Not with Donny though.
“Come on then, you can walk me home.” She smiled pushing herself to her feet and holding her hand out for him to take.
He tried to tuck away his smile as he stood, fishing out his wallet to cover their dinner. He was a mess of a man, but he still tried to be a gentleman. What would his mother think of him?
Once their dinner was paid for, he offered her his arm and escorted her from the restaurant. “I’ve enjoyed myself tonight. I’m glad we have plans to do this again.”
"Mhm," she agreed gently wrapping her hand around the crook of his arm and standing close to him.

youdeservethiss:
A corner of her mouth lifted in a half smile, her heart thudded a bit against her chest at the expression in his eyes.
“I’m pretty good at a lot of things.” She said gently pulling out her tube of lip stick and using the spoon on the table to re-apply.
He sucked in a breath. “Don’t need to remind me,” he replied. “I’ve been privy to your talents before.”
And like it or not, he was starting to grow attached to those talents. The talent of smiling beautifully, the talent of being intelligent, the talent of keeping him steady and calm.
He could use talents like that in his life.

youdeservethiss:
She laughed slightly. “I’d call it calculated judgment.” Rose ran her foot gently up his leg and took the last sip of her wine, wiping the corners of her mouth with her napkin.
“With that many older brothers, I’d say my judgment has gotten rather good over the years.”
“I’d agree.” His eyes darkened, and he knew a gentleman would be searching for his wallet, but she had him in her magnetic hold. He was totally, completely hers.
“You’re pretty good at judging where to hit me.”

youdeservethiss:
“Five older brothers, I am the youngest of them all.” She smirked watching his reaction. “I don’t tell guys that usually, makes them uneasy. Don’t worry though, I can handle myself.”
She slid her foot across the floor under the table and pressed it against his leg gently.
“I’ll keep a healthy respect for all six of you, then.” He flashed a smirk at her, doing his best to keep his surprise under wraps. Five older brothers? God help him if he ever met her family.
He raised an eyebrow. “You’re getting brave.”
She laughed slightly. "I'd call it calculated judgment." Rose ran her foot gently up his leg and took the last sip of her wine, wiping the corners of her mouth with her napkin.

youdeservethiss:
“Yeah, I get that alot.” She smiled taking a slow sip. “Making people feel better is one of my favorite things to do. And it helps when the guy is smart and charming like you. Sometimes I have to pull them out by their ears to have an intelligant conversation with me, but then… maybe a conversation isnt what they need.” She added her voice getting softer. “I’ve always had better luck with boys then I have with girls. Maybe because i never had a sister?”
She looked at him for a moment before continuing.
“You’re an only child, right?”
He smiled. He wasn’t much a fan of a verbal sparring, but it was nice to know he could provide a decent challenge.
“Yeah, just me. Did you have brothers, then?” He’d fallen into his own band of brothers lately, but he figured they didn’t quite count.

youdeservethiss:
“How about Sunday night?” She asked with a laugh taking a long drink of her wine before leaning a bit closer to him across the table. “I’m sure I can move a few things on my schedule around for you.”
“Thanks for fitting me in.” He clinked his glass against hers. “You’re easy to talk to. Anyone ever tell you that?”
"Yeah, I get that alot." She smiled taking a slow sip. "Making people feel better is one of my favorite things to do. And it helps when the guy is smart and charming like you. youdeservethiss:
Her eyes lightened a bit. “Really?” She asked honestly surprised. She couldn’t help but be slightly enchanted by that domestic idea. “I would love that, you have no idea. It’s… it’s been a while since I’ve had a home cooked meal.”
Her face fell a little bit at the thought but she quickly smiled again.
“You’re preaching to the choir,” he said. “Pierogies are about the only thing I can make. You free this weekend? Come to my place and we’ll have the first and only good meal I can make for myself.”
"How about Sunday night?" She asked with a laugh taking a long drink of her wine before leaning a bit closer to him across the table. "I'm sure I can move a few things on my schedule around for you."

youdeservethiss:
“You talk about her alot.” She said thoughtfully. “She must have been somethin’.”
She pushed her food around on her plate, she had he fill of the pasta, but it wasnt good. Not like a homeaid meal.
“You once told me about the things she use to make you. Bread, right?”
“Yeah, but her specialty was pierogies.” He smiled to himself. He remembered the smell of grilled peppers and onions filling the kitchen as a youngster–and when he got older, he would help his mother knead the dough and beat the potatoes. “Best food in the world. I’d love to make it for you sometime.”

youdeservethiss:
“I do,” she smiled running a red nail down the table resting her other hand under her chin. “Stimilulating conversation is hard to come by these days. Espically girls. Maybe it’s because I grew up with a ton of older brothers,” she laughed.
She was relaxed and comfortable here, something she couldn’t say for any other date she’d been on.
“You haven’t been talking to the right women, then,” he replied, taking a swig of his wine. He wasn’t usually a wine drinker, but if the restaurant fits…
“My mother was the sharpest person I ever met. Nothing got past her.”
"You talk about her alot." She said thoughtfully. "She must have been somethin'."
