Elvanse, which has the generic name Lisdexamfetamine, is used to treat ADHD.
abandonware should be public domain. force companies to actively support and provide products if they don't wanna lose the rights to them
Game companies hate emulation, but none of them seem to understand that a lot of us would just buy ROMs from them directly if we could. I don't want a fifth remake of Final Fantasy IV, I want to pay five bucks for the 3MB file you already made bank with thirty years ago. Nobody who wants to play something for the purpose of retro gaming is going to consider a $40 remake as the alternative option, and we're certainly not going to let the original dissappear. They're crying about opportunity cost for a product they're not even selling.
op i know you're probably talking about like, video games, etc, but this is also critical for research science - my lab has so much abandonware, either because the company's out of business, or the company decided to not maintain it, and it's a fucking nightmare. we have two windows 95 computers that are CRITICAL for performing experiments/data analysis because the software needed is abandonware. one of the main roles for a guy in my lab is to maintain these little dinosaurs because if they go out, we lose access to ~20 years of raw data for research. part of why is that these companies also make their own file types, and make it difficult-to-impossible to convert those file types without their specific software. by habit, i convert all research files to more generic versions (txt, pdf, tif, etc) so that i minimize risk of losing my shit, but some stuff can't be converted.
for example, we have a microscope that is perfectly functional, good microscope, but its software is abandonware because the company refused to maintain it. the company is still in business, still makes essentially the exact same software, but they made all of the old tech incompatible with new software to force people to buy the new microscope tech. it would cost a quarter million dollars to replace this microscope. this perfectly good microscope.
so like, i know a lot of people look at the original post here and go "well op just wants old video games to play" (which is valid! games companies should not be able to push shit to abandonware and then close it off) but also this is critical for like. biomedical research. if y'all had any idea how much basic infrastructure built on science relies on shit that is technically abandonware, you would probably be horrified.

I’m going to say something that might sound crazy. Suicide and suicide attempts are sort of a societal alarm bell that says “something is very wrong with the environment this individual was in.” A living being choosing to take themselves out of existence is the most extreme act of distress there is. The state stepping in to silence this alarm bell by funneling suicidal people into a state sanctioned euthanasia program, normalizing this act through a socially accepted bureaucratic system, is not a good thing. It goes hand in hand with the state’s interest in maintaining the status quo at the expense of the population and the psychiatric industry’s interest in individualizing societal problems to extract profit and aid the existing system. It’s saying “there are no complaints here, just people with sick brains, carry on.”
I hate this tumblr feature that recommends the posts you’ve liked to the people following you. If I wasn’t surrounded by gendies, I’d like all of your posts <3
You could always make a sideblog to like them ;)
What is your opinion on BDSM kinks? I am unsure about my feeling in fetishes of dominance/submission, feels misogynistic. But I can’t tell.
You can't stop whatever's happening in the privacy of people's bedrooms, nor should you wish it, otherwise we'd live in Big Brother Land. But you can provide a way out for potential victims, by making the act of hurting someone during sex an aggravating circumstance to abuse and/or torture, rather than an extenuating one. Put the responsibility back on the so-called "dom". Once we have that, people who sincerely want to put themselves in danger for a thrill, will know that they can always fall back on the law to protect them, and people willing to hurt others in sexual acts will think twice about it before they go beyond spanking their partners.
My favorite gendie mass hallucination about JKR is the one that sees her as the mastermind behind the “harassment” of Pedro Pascal.
That crap started because incels noticed that actresses let him (a gay man) touch them during interviews and red carpets, and started losing it.
Rather than brushing it off with a “lol touch grass,” gendies started accusing them of being bots purchased by JKR with the goal of tarnishing his reputation. Because he is such an amazing trans ally and JKR is such an evil woman that she had to eliminate him. Through bot accounts on Twitter.
It had to be some level of psychosis.
Pedro Pascal really doesn't need JKR to be a loser, his last movies have all been flops, except the one about a woman who inexplicably decides to date him rather than Chris Evans, which was carried by those straight women who love old ugly dudes i guess.
Is the trans thing really loosing steam now?
Has been for a while, although like emos and goths, there will always be some who refuse to move on.
Thoughts on the whole furore over Alesia (Alessia?) Leoni as Parvati Patil?
As someone with Indian ethnicity I think the discussion is ridiculous. Alessia Leoni and Anjula Murali both seem well cast. Who cares if Leoni is an Italian name? It's like when Simone Ashley got shit for having a non-Indian last name.
It can't be that easy to find two British actors with Indian ethnicity, who look alike enough to play twins, who are the right age, who can, want and are allowed to act, etc.
At least both Leoni and Murali are brownskin. All the Indians complaining about representation should look at the representation in India/bollywood first. All the actors there are so lightskin they're a 100% whitepassing. And most of them have light eyes as well. Imo they're just mad that brownskin girls are representing Indian characters instead of pale-skinned actors.
Is there even an outrage to speak of? I haven't seen much of it (that being said i'm not very online, only using tumblr and i haven't been very active lately even there). Who's even complaining about this that would have some amount of legitimacy? Third or fourth generation Brits of Indian origin? Really, these kids lack representation, in 2026? Have they watched the BBC lately?
Anyway, if there is and it isn't just manufactured bullshit, it is indeed very very stupid, and racist. First of all, in text the twins aren't even described as brown. Second of all they aren't important enough to be considered secondary or terciary characters, Padma especially is background fluff at best. What *representation* are they even worth?
Caring about diversity in media is cool, obsessing over race (a totally made up concept in the first place that relies on arbitrary visual indicators) to this degree is fucked. Some people are literally this close to bring back the old 1930s era skull measurements to cast a little kid, who's gonna show up on screen for a grand total of 5 minutes if she's lucky, """accurately""". Goes to show you don't need German blood to have a Nazi's spirit.
What was up with the whole mould in JKR's house thing in 2023????
Also, are we getting out from the gendie madness?
Gendies hallucinated mold on a wall in her house in some screencap (obviously the "mold" really was just some wall decoration, if you zoom in you can see it appears to be leaves and vines, either painted or stickers it's not clear). The funniest thing that came out of this is how many of them i've seen confess that they had mold on their stuff that must be making them crazy "LiKE jKR".
Also, time for me to shine and be slightly pedantic about one of my interests: the most current evidence suggests that "black mold causes or exacerbates mental illness" is a myth based on shoddy science that got a lot of press in the 1990s.
Obviously, eating moldy food can make you sick, and living in environments with certain kinds of mold can cause asthma, sinus issues and runny nose in people who are susceptible, but there is no proven link between "black mold" growing in your house and going mad.
Fungi are present in all human environments, both indoors and outdoors, but most fungi do not cause disease in humans.
In recent years, mold has been blamed for many symptoms or a constellation of symptoms. These symptoms are usually vague and subjective and
Very interesting, actually!

Watching a series documenting JK Rowling's transphobia, and one recurring thing, which is a fundamental TERF thing, is that they do not believe men can be victims, at least not of rape or domestic abuse
They don't say it, but you can see it in the way they talk about rape crisis centers; the idea that a trans woman, or anyone they perceive to be "male" could require such services is absurd to them
Transphobes coming here to tell me Harry Potter is a male victim of domestic violence, first off he's a child not a man when he's victimized; second, JK Rowling used to believe women and men could compete in sports against one another, I think she's changed her mind in many things
Quidditch is a fantasy sport in which people fly on a broom. Also, they live in a world where women and men can do magic which goes a long way to equalise them. Also, there is canonically an exclusive all-female team. Also, the male hero of her CURRENT series is a victim of domestic violence, as an ADULT (though he'd probably hate to think of himself as such). It's literally spelled out by his friend, who is a lawyer. You have got to be deliberately lying to yourself at this point, and the fact that you'd rather reply to your own post rather than my previous answer to this post says it all.
Op removed this reply and then turned off reblogs, so here you go.

Yes, totally, JKR doesn't believe that men can be victims of rape or domestic abuse. That's why the male hero of her latest series of books was a victim of domestic abuse, why her latest book in that series focused strongly on male victims of violence (mostly perpetrated by men, because unlike you all JKR writes about real life), and why in her previous book, the person they're trying to rescue is a young man who has arguably been coerced to have sex with a minor (as a form of ritualistic humiliation + blackmail).
Do you all ever get tired of listening to your own bullshit or is that just us?
I think history will prove her right, and she'll be known for not just her books but her courage in standing up for women, especially when she was/is ruthlessly demonized, harassed, and punished for it. And also for being a major philanthropist helping women and children, obviously.
