Random escape into the desert and a one night stay at the Pioneertown Motel.
My dear friend Kacy displaying her uncanny resemblance to an adorable meme.
I shot some super 8 footage for Alysha Nett’s Purrpuss project. Here’s a behind the scenes moment.
A year ago I was lucky enough to meet my soul mate. He wrote a song about me and I directed a music video for it. So here it is- no frills, just us, and a really cool car. DPed and edited by John Geronilla.
I love my neighborhood. I live in Beachwood Canyon and the homes are all so adorable. Friends love visiting my little nook in the city. I once walked my entire neighborhood - all the way up to the Hollywood sign. Adrianna and Yvonne came over one day and we snuck into my neighbor’s pool. We were there for a while until finally a grouchy old lady kicked us out. It amazes me how at age 26 I still manage to get into teenage antics sometimes.
At midnight, he handed me my first birthday present. A thick stack of cards tied up in twine. “There are 24 cards. One for each hour of your birthday.”
A love note to open every hour of the day (minus the six I opened all at once in the morning because I had to sleep). Some were poems, some were inside jokes, some were more serious than others. I feel nothing but endless love and I am in complete awe that somewhere along this crazy road in life, I’ve managed to find my soul mate.
My birthday- Echo Park Lake Sept. 14th, paddle boating and listening to some Fleetwood Mac.
Birthday Beach Party - Dockweiler Sept. 12th, Walks along the breaker before a night of friends, booze, and s’mores.
San Diego, Baby’s Birthday- Sept. 8
Our first stop was Lestats, a cafe that I spent my high school years at. We got a coffee and I prompted him to open his first present. He unraveled to find a copy of the most iconic Rolling Stones issue. Being a huge Beatles fan and often joking we are the modern John and Yoko, I knew it would be perfect. For lunch we got deep dish Chicago pizza and ate it at the Cabrillo Monument viewpoint. He opened his second present, a personalized leather journal with his initials engraved on it, a book for his lyrics. We ventured around the tide pools. “This is definitely one of the most beautiful places we’ve been together”, he said. We ventured around the beach towns and I gifted him his final present, a delay pedal which he loved. We ended with dinner at one of his favorite restaurants, Lucille’s.
There’s something about being from San Diego. When you’re from a beach-centric town, you can’t help but feel like you’ve managed to grasp the best kept secrets. How the ocean is a cure for most anything and how nothing beats a long walk on the shoreline, or a kiss underneath a salty pier, or whispering secrets through the flames of a beach bonfire.
Exploring hidden gems in my hometown, San Diego, with Jenny and Bobo.
Lauren in San Francisco, a spontaneous weekend trip.
Here we have the great effects of expired film taking place.
Hanna Beth and Mod Sun depicted as the modern day Andy Wardhol and Edie Sedgwick.
Hanna Beth and Mod, muse and maker, in their home together as Edie and Andy. These relationships are so beautiful to me and fascinate me most. Maybe because I can relate. And I can truly say, it’s quite something else...
I’m falling in love with the look of nostalgia. I’ve accumulated a lot of rare Russian film, shipped from the Ukraine. Everything’s expired but that sliver of gamble is the fun part. You don’t know how your film is going to come out or if it even will. Because my apparent newfound love for Super 8 film struck a chord of inspiration in some, lovely muse Hanna Beth asked me to film a music video all in super 8 for her boyfriend featuring him and her as Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick allusions.
I walked into their home to see a pyramid of Campbell soup cans. Playing pretend never ends when you’re a photographer or filmmaker and I want to keep teleporting increments of life into galleries upon galleries of Neverlands.
Did you know Sonic has a menu combo meal that gives you one and JUST ONE onion ring? It’s a “dinner meal” that includes some chicken strips, fries, toast, and one singular lone onion ring. We thought it was a mistake and asked for the rest of our onion rings but were told to take a second look at the menu which did indeed read “onion ring”-singular, just one. Why? What is the point? Who ever craves just ONE fucking onion ring? Sonic, you’re exempt from our Disneyland road trip food options now.
He surprised me with a mini day trip. A visit to Johnny Cash’s home and a Ventura County Fair date with the beach and thrift stores in between. We had a waterfront ferris wheel view and I watched the sunset glow wrapping around the metal bars like a slow motion movie scene.
